Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
September 10, 2017
It’s Sunday and a beautiful day here at the homestead. We’re supposed to start feeling the effects of Irma later tonight and tomorrow, but for now, it’s really nice outside. It makes me want to go take a nap. But before I do, how about we do a little “Wrestling Fact or Fiction” first? The questions come from my friends at 411mania.com/wrestling. And the rest of it, that’s just lil’ ol me. Let’s get started, shall we?
1. Corey Graves is NXT’s biggest success story.
FICTION: While I like Corey and am a big fan of his work at the color guy on Raw and Smackdown Live, there is no way that he can claim the title of the “biggest success story” from NXT. What about Seth Rollins? Or Charlotte? Or Kevin Owens? Or Sasha Banks? And of course Asuka is getting ready to make her main roster debut and will probably raise the bar even that much higher. NXT, as a whole, has done a fantastic job of building new stars for the WWE. And while Graves is damn good at what he does, he’s not the singular best, but instead is just one of many.
2. You are glad that JBL will no longer be doing commentary full time for WWE.
FICTION: I seem to be in the minority here, but I like JBL on commentary. I like the obscure references and old school stories. While admittingly, he’s not the analyst and commentator he once was, he’s still heads and tails better than Byron, David Otunga or Booker.
3. WWE running Monday Night Raw live on Christmas night is complete bullshit.
FICTION: While I feel bad for the wrestlers and everyone else who will have to work instead of being home with their families, this is, from what I understand, a USA Network decision and not a WWE decision. USA pays WWE a lot of money to have a live program each and every Monday night and they made the call. Hopefully, someone at USA will be like the Grinch in Whoville and grow a heart and opt for a “Best Of RAW” instead of making everyone produce a live show. The ratings are going to suck anyhow. But while I’m not crazy about the idea of a Christmas show, we can’t blame WWE or Vince on this one.
4. You’re excited that the WWE Horsewomen vs. MMA Horsewomen feud looks to be a real thing.
FACT: This is exactly what is needed to really take the Women’s Divsion to the next level with the mainstream. The best of the best of the MMA versus the best women in WWE. This is publicity, mainstream media attention, a chance to bring some of those UFC fans to a WWE show and a chance for all of these very talented women to be spotlighted and featured as never before. I’m excited and can’t wait to see where this all goes next.
5. The Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt feud has not been good.
FACT: It’s been boring, predictable and totally forgettable. Both Bray and Balor are capable of so much more and could do so much better, but the chemistry just doesn’t seem to be there and this rivalry just can’t seem to catch fire. Best to just finish this and let both men move on to someone else and other battles. This particular rivalry just isn’t cutting it and needs to be dropped.
6. You like that WWE made the Raw Women’s title match at No Mercy a four-way featuring Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax vs. Emma vs. Alexa Bliss.
FACT: Sasha versus Alexa is stale and we’ve seen it so many times already. Bringng Nia in as the resident monster, plus the unpredictability of Emma adds new energy and life and changes the whole scenario a million times over. Adding the new faces makes the match actually interesting. That’s always a good thing.
And there you go. Another FoF in the books. Comments, thoughts, questions and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. And now, for me, it’s time for a nap. Until the next time, I’m Doug, I’m down and I’m gone. See you next time.
