Are you ready for yet another Wrestling Q&A? I’m supposed to be getting ready for work right now, but all I have left to do is brush my teeth and put on my shoes so I believe that I have time to do a quick piece for the site. The questions come from the Facebook group, the Kult of Kayfabe, aka “The KoK” and the answers are mine and mine alone. Let’s do this…
1. Has Charlotte stepped out of her father’s shadow or will it always be too big for her?
While every bio of Charlotte will always include a mention of who her father is and her status as a second-generation superstar, I think she’s definitely established her own place and legacy in the world of professional wrestling. Multiple championships and a pay-per-view winning streak that very few, male or female, can even come close to equaling. Charlotte’s last name might be “Flair”, but her reputation and status as a superstar in her own right has been established and is very secure.
2. Who Is Your All Time Favorite Female Wrestler?
Lisa Moretti, aka “Ivory”, the former GLOW, POWW and WWE Women’s Champion has always been and will always be my one true favorite and beloved. But I will admit that Lisa Marie Varon, aka “Victoria” and current WWE Superstar Asuka are not too far behind her. And the late, great Sherri Martel will always have a place in my heart as well.
3. Will WWE allow him back in the ring as a wrestler or will Daniel Bryan have to go to ROH or NJPW?
If the tests keep coming back saying that Bryan is able to wrestle, I don’t see how the WWE, if they want to keep Bryan on their roster, can continue to deny him the chance to get into the ring again, especially since they’re allowing Kurt Angle, with his medical history, to do so on occasion. I think a compromise will eventually be reached and Bryan will have to sign all sorts of waivers and in return, will be given “one last match”, probably against someone who is considered to be one of the safe wrestlers, such as Miz. It may take a while, but I think that we will eventually see, albeit a very limited match schedule, Bryan return to the ring at some point for WWE.
4. Is WWE having a problem with convincing heels doing heel things?
Ever since the days of HBK and DX and the nWo (Nash & Hall), heels aren’t heels anymore, but now are tweeners and “cool” instead of being lowlife trash and evil cheaters. It’s a problem to be sure and only Miz and Kevin Owens to a lesser degree, seem to embrace the heel roles and concept in the modern day WWE. Everyone else has “catch phrases” and plays to the crowd, be it as face or heel. So yes, there is a problem. Heels need to be vile and evil and disgusting and be booed, not cheered. Watch the old videos of Ole Anderson or Ernie Ladd, for example. They were heels without a redeemable bone in their bodies. That’s the way it should be. That’s the way it needs to be again.
5. Thoughts on Booker T as a color commentator?
I respect Booker as a wrestler and in small doses, I can almost stand him on the mic, but for three hours every Monday night? What the hell is the WWE thinking? Booker is a former World Champion, a good wrestler, a legitimate Hall of Famer and a role model for youth everywhere, but I’d rather see almost anyone else, not named David Otunga or Mike Adamle, in that color spot instead of Mr. T.
6. The greatest Babyface in JCP history ???
While arguments can be made for people like the “Boogie Woogie Man” Jimmy Valiant and “The Dean of Professional Wrestling” Johnny Weaver, there is only one person who can honestly be called “the greatest Baby-Face” in JCP history or in pro wrestling history for that matter and that’s Ricky Steamboat. No one else even comes close.
And that’s all for today. Thoughts, comments, questions and all feedback is welcome. I have to go to work now. Unitl the next time, take it easy and have a great one.
