Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
March 18, 2018
And now, while the rest of the world sleeps, I’m here to talk about the world’s greatest sport, the world of pro wrestling. Yes my friends, it’s time to do the ever so awesome “Fact or Fiction” thing, the wrestling edition. There’s a lot going on in the world of wrestling right now as we head down the road to Wrestlemania. Some of it gets covered here. So while time only fears the pyramids and the legends of pro wrestling (credit: Larry Zbyszko), I forget what I was going to say next. I had something cool spinning in my head in reference to that Zbyszko quote from Slamboree that was actually relevant to what I’m fixing to write about here. I can’t remember what it was now. Oh well, it happens. So let’s do this instead. The questions for which I’m commenting come from my friends over at 411mania.com/wrestling. And I’ve got all the answers. Remember that. Now, let’s do this…
1. Considering the rumored negative history surrounding the Fabulous Moolah, WWE made a big mistake in naming a memorial battle royal after her and continuing to glorify her career.
FACT: This definitely falls into the “what the hell were they thinking” category. Moolah has a legacy and a place in wrestling history and that’s all well and good. But the allegations of what she did to ensure that spot and make her career are pretty strong true and are some pretty damning stuff. To use her name and likeness to promote anything having to do with the “Women’s Movement” in wrestling, when for so many years, she was personally the biggest for women’s wrestling being stagnant and being considered a joke, is just crazy and insane. Moolah must be acknowledged for what she accomplished, but there needs to be a huge check by her name with all of the negatives and bad stuff listed too in order to make the record correct and right.
2. Who should team with Braun Strowman at WrestleMania to face the Bar?
If Braun is forced to pick a partner to team with to face The Bar for the titles at Wrestlemania, and it looks as if this may be the case, I’d have him either (A) bring in James Ellsworth since Ellsworth was his first jobber opponent who really stood out when Braun first started hitting big, (B) pick his former mentor Bray Wyatt to be his partner to help restore some of Bray’s credibility or else (C), let it be he of the losing streak, Curt Hawkins, to allow Braun to show that he can “do it himself”, while at the same time, elevate Hawkins and end the losing streak as he actually becomes a viable partner for Braun. Hell, they could even do an angle where Braun and Kurt Angle decide that the next person to walk through that door will be Braun’s partner and it turns out to be one of the Colons or maybe Mike Bennett. I’d love to see him get some TV time and back on track in the WWE. So those are some of my picks, but honestly, with Braun, almost anyone would do.
3. WWE Fastlane was a good show.
FACT: I didn’t get to watch all of it and had to go back to the Network to re-watch it, a little at a time, but from what I remember and can see, there really weren’t any total bomb matches on there, with the possible exception of Natty and Carmella versus Naomi and Becky. That match was thrown together and not really all that, but the rest of the show was okay and the main event turned out to be better than I expected with the right person (AJ) keeping his title and the Shane / Owens / Zayn tension being taken to the next level and played upon as well. And we got to see Asuka come and challenge Charlotte and that was a definite plus for me. On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give it a solid 7.5 or 8.
4. WWE’s attempts to babyface Roman Reigns by heeling Brock Lesnar as an “on his way out guy who doesn’t care” will likely lead to a WM 20 style reaction when they face at WM 34.
FICTION: At Wrestlemania 20, both Brock and Goldberg got booed because they were both leaving the company and the fans gave as much a shit about the two men as the two men did about their match. The only person who was over in that match was the referee, Steve Austin. Both men may get booed at first when they come to the ring at Wrestlemania this year, but it won’t last. Once Heyman starts introducing Brock, he’ll start getting cheered. And Roman will get his usual mix of cheers and boos, second only to Cena when he comes out. And by the time the match is over, regardless of who wins, both men will get cheered and the fans will be standing for them, shouting “this is awesome”.
5. Many fans are upset over the Alexa Bliss/Nia Jax angle, claiming that it glorifies fat shaming. The angle’s a fine story as long as Jax quickly destroys Bliss at WrestleMania and wins the title.
FACT: There is nothing wrong with the angle and stories as they have gone so far. Alexa is a bitch and a heel and being nasty because that’s what a heel does, especially one who is desperate to retain her title. The methods and words used are designed to make Alexa more hated and Nia more sympathetic as a “face” and that’s exactly what it’s doing. So long as Nia kicks Alexa’s ass in the end, it’s all well and good.
6. What is your level of excitement for next week’s Ultimate Deletion?
Probably a strong 8 out of 10. With the aid of Jeremy Borash behind the scenes and the debuts and additions of Reby Hardy, Senor Benjamin, Vanguard 1 and of course King Maxel and his little brother, it’s going to be Broken Matt craziness at it’s very best. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of surprises that the WWE and the Ultimate Deletion match brings and how Bray Wyatt reacts and is used in all of this. Will this be the insanity that finally allows Bray to reach his potential and maybe even help form an alliance between Sister Abigail and the Broken Universe. Anything can happen and probably will. Maybe we’ll even get to see King Maxel pin Curt Hawkins during the craziness and add to Hawkin’s losing streak. I’m excited to see what will happen on Monday night. It should prove to be mighty interesting to say the least.
And that’s all for me now. Comments, thoughts and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. Thank you for reading. And now, I am down and gone. Until the next time, take care and stay safe. I loves ya!
