WWE Wrestlemania 34
Thoughts & Predictions
(Part 2 0f 2)
April 6, 2018
And here we are, back again with the “rest of the story”, as Paul Harvey used to say. Coming Sunday night, live from New Orleans, LA, exclusively on the WWE Network, is Wrestlemania 34. In Part 1, I went over half of the anticipated matches for the six-plus hour long show and gave my thoughts on who will win and who will lose. Let’s recap…
Brock over Roman to retain the Universal Championship. AJ Styles over Shinsuke to keep the WWE Championship. Ronda Rousey and Kurt Angle over Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Asuka over Charlotte to capture the Smackdown Women’s Championship. The Undertaker over John Cena. The Miz over Seth and Balor to retain the Intercontinental Championship. And finally, Rusev over Orton, Jinder and Roode to capture the United States title.
That’s one half of the card covered. Now let’s get busy and round out the rest of the show.
WWE Raw Women’s champion Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax
It would make for a great moment and feel-good event to see Nia beat Alexa and become the new Raw Women’s Champion, but Alexa is so good and gets better and better each and every time she goes to that ring. Nia should win to make the fans happy, but I think Alexa finds a way and steals a win, probably with the aid of her associate, Mickie James. The “Goddess” and her run with the Raw Women’s title will continue.
Winner and STILL RAW Women’s Champion: Alexa Bliss
Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon vs. Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens: If Owens & Zayn win, they are reinstated. If they lose, they remain fired.
So what do they do here? Does Daniel Bryan lose at Wrestlemania in his first match back in action in nearly three years? Or do they do the ridiculous “they’re fired” thing with Sami and Kevin, easily the most entertaining pair of performers on Smackdown Live. Well, one of three things will happen. Either Sami and Kevin “lose” and are fired from the WWE, only to be hired on RAW. Or Shane McMahon takes a clean pin and loses the match for his team, thus allowing Kevin and Sami to win, but since Shane takes the fall, Bryan still comes out untainted by a loss. Or Bryan turns on Shane and joins forces with Owens and Sami, turning heel in the process and being part of a three-man team. That last option would be the most fun to see and would be awesome to behold, but I don’t think WWE has the balls to do that and turn Bryan heel or even tweener. It would be fun to see a Bryan – Shane feud and see what side the fans take. I think it’ll be Option 2 and despite Bryan’s best efforts, Shane will end up eating the fall and being pinned, thus costing he and Bryan the match. Owens and Sami win.
Winners and reinstated to Smackdown Live, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.
WWE Raw Tag Team champions The Bar vs. Braun Strowman and a partner to be announced.
They keep teasing different names to be Braun’s partner for this match. The names I heard mostly today are Goldberg, The Big Show, Kane, Bray Wyatt and Rey Mysterio. I wouldn’t mind seeing James Ellsworth come out as the partner. But regardless of who the partner is, the WWE loves mismatched partners stories and I think that’s how they’ll go.
Winners and NEW Raw Tag Team Champions: Braun Strowman and his mystery partner.
WWE Smackdown Tag Team champions The Usos vs. The Bludgeon Brothers vs. New Day.
I am so damn tired of the Usos and the New Day. The Usos are a fantastic tag team and probably the best in the WWE right now, if not in wrestling all together. The New Day? Their schtick has gotten old to me and boring. I would love to see Rowan and Harper (I hate that Bludgeon Brother name) have a run with the tag titles and get a major push as a monster tag team, but I don’t think WWE will go that route. No more New Day, please. Look for the Usos to retain.
Winners and STILL Smackdown Tag Team Champions: The Usos
And now, let’s get to the show before the show with the matches announced for the Kickoff Show.
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
I’ve said it already many times and I’ll say it again. This would be the perfect way to end Curt Hawkins’ losing streak. It’d make a great Wrestlemania moment and I want to see it already.
Winner: Curt Hawkins
WWE Cruiserweight championship tournament final: Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali.
This will probably be the best match on the card that no one will see or care about. Mustafa Ali or Cedric Alexander. Didn’t Cedric already have a run with the Cruiserweight Championship? He’s a great performer, but heels are generally better as champs and faces make better challengers. The money is in the hunt and chase. It’ll be a great match and the final results will be very close, but I’m going to buck the odds and go with Ali to win.
Winner and NEW Cruiserweight Champion: Mustafa Ali
Wrestlemania Women’s Battle Royal
Look for a mixture of stars from RAW, Smackdown, NXT and maybe even a surprise or two. The women will tear down the house and put on a great effort. Of that, I have no doubt. I think that Becky Lynch will end up winning this thing. I don’t know why, but I just do. And there you go.
Winner: Becky Lynch
And that concludes my Wrestlemania 34 Prediction columns. So what do you think? Am I right about these matches or am I just a crazy old looney toon? Let me know what you think. Comments, questions and all thoughts welcome.
Enjoy Wrestlemania on Sunday as well as the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday night and NXT Takeover: New Orleans on Saturday night, all on the WWE Network. I’m down, I’m gone and I’ll see you at the matches. Have a great one.
