Tossing Salt Presents:
NXT Takeover: Chicago II
Thoughts and Predictions
June 15, 2018
Tomorrow night, live on the WWE Network from Chicago, will be the 21rst edition of the NXT Takeover series and it looks to be a great show. It’s the WWE Developmental brand doing it’s thing and setting the stage for WWE Money In The Bank the next night. That means it’s time to take a few minutes and do the whole “Sister Cleo” thing and make a few predictions. Hell, regardless of how well or badly I do on these things, I’ll still be more accurate than CNN. Time is short and I have to go to work soon so let’s cut the chit chat and get busy. Let’s do this…
NXT Championship Match
Aleister Black (c) vs. Lars Sullivan
This should be one helluva good and fun match. Lars Sullivan is ready to be a big time monster on the main roster and I think the only reason he’s not there yet is because of the presence of Braun Strowman and the writers aren’t creative enough to have two monsters on the main cards. But his time is coming and he’ll be a major presence for the company for many years to come. And Black? What can I saw about this guy that hasn’t already been said? He’s a good talent that borders on great and makes a great champion for NXT. And with that in mind, I don’t think it’s time yet to take the title off of Black. He’s doing a good job as the champ and hasn’t really had that long a reign yet. Give him time to really grow and develop with the title and make his mark as the champ. I think Sullivan will dominate most of the match and look great, but in the end, Black will snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and retain the title.
Winner and STILL NXT Champion: Aleister Black
Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa
It won’t last long and it’ll be so damn sweet as it all boils over and comes to a bittersweet ending. Look for plunder, shenanigans and the kind of action that only two best friends can do in this DIY free-for-all. I like Gargano, but I have a feeling that in the end of this battle, Ciampa will be the one who has his arm raised in victory. I can’t explain why, but I’m going for Tommaso to win it all.
Winner: Tommaso Ciampa
NXT Women’s Championship Match
Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Nikki Cross
Cross is excellent and I can see her as the champion eventually, but I think that it’s too soon to take the title off of Baszler, at least until she’s ready to move up to the main roster. Right now, there’s not really an open spot for her so I think we’ll be able to enjoy several more months at least with Shayna as the top NXT female wrestler. Nikki will get her time, but just not yet.
Winner and STILL NXT Women’s Champion: Shayna Baszler
The King vs. The Prince
Ricochet vs. Velveteen Dream
Flip a coin here because both of these guys are really exciting to watch perform and go at it. It’s hard to believe that the Dream is the same Patrick Clark that was on Tough Enough a few years ago because he’s really stepped up his game and found himself and his character and the transformation is amazing. And Richochet is too much high flying jumping around for my tastes, but the man can work and is an excellent talent as well. I don’t know who wins so I’m flipping a coin. Heads. It’s Ricochet.
NXT Tag Team Championship Match
The Undisputed ERA (c) vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch
I haven’t been following this one too close and while I’m a fan of the Undisputed ERA, I’m not all that familiar with Lorcan and Burch. I think we’ll see at least one title change during the night so this may as well be it.
Winners and NEW Tag Team Champions: Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch.
And there you go. My predictions. Am I right? Am I wrong? Let me know what you think and what your predictions for this event are. And now, I’m off to work. Thanks for reading and enjoy NXT Takeover tomorrow night (and WWE MITB on Sunday). I’ll have my predictions for that show probably up later tonight. Until then, take care and stay safe. Love ya – mean it.
