Tom Petty, Prophets of Rage and More
I’m so running behind on everything today. Procrastination is not my friend. Let’s do the Fact or Fiction thing, the music edition. The statements below and queries come from my friends at 411mania.com/music. The opinions that follow, that’s just me. Let’s get busy and do this…
You enjoyed the two latest songs from Childish Gambino.
FAC T: The two new tracks are called “Summertime Magic” and “Feels Like Summer”. I went and did the YouTube experience with both songs and yeah, they’re not that bad at all. There’s a cool “feel good” type of vibe with both songs and I actually found myself enjoying both tracks and even listened to “Summertime Magic” twice. Good stuff.
A box set of unreleased music from Tom Petty will be worth a purchase.
FACT: It’s Tom Petty. He was a talented musician, songwriter and performer and the stuff he didn’t release is probably as good as or even better than all of the classic material he did release to the masses. I’ll probably end up getting this myself before all is said and done.
Prophets of Rage’s new song ‘Heart AFire’ wasn’t very good.
FACT: I’m not a big POF fan, but I did go take another trip on the YouTube train and gave this a good listen to a few minutes ago. It’s not totally awful, but it’s not all that good either. It’s just kind of there wasting time and space. I’ve heard worse, but I’ve definitely heard better as well. Not a fan of this song.
Interpol’s video for “The Rover” was enjoyable.
FACT: Yet another trip to the Tube of You to watch a video and hear a song by a band I’m not all that familiar with, but it was worth the trip. The song was catchy and the video wasn’t all that bad either. Worth watching again actually.
You enjoyed Panic! At the Disco’s cover of Weezer’s “Say It Aint So”
FACT: It’s not as good as the original, but with a few exceptions, cover songs rarely are. PATD stripped it down a bit and made it a bit more of an acoustic performance than I’m used to, but it wasn’t bad at all. It’s not Weezer level, but PATD has nothing to be ashamed of either and did a fine job.
Mushroomhead’s “We Are The Truth” was an enjoyable tribute to The Evil Dead.
FACT: I’m not a fan of Mushroomhead, nor am I a fan of the Evil Dead craze that’s sweeping the universe, but the video was fun to watch and the song was catchy so no complaints. Not my thing, but it was still decent and fun to watch.
And there you go, short and to the point, much like the Mexican guy I’ve been seeing off and on for the past few months. He ain’t got much going, but the intensity of those brief encounters, just Wow! Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts and questions, please do. Until the next time, take care and have a great one.
