Tossing Salt Presents:
Mt. Rushmore of Music, Divas and More…
July 19, 2018
Questions about music. They’ve been sitting in my inbox waiting to be answered. And now, I am. Let’s do this…
Mt. Rushmore of Music with one rock, one country, one R&B, 1 rapper and 1 big band / crooner.
The big band / crooner one would be easy. Frank Sinatra..For the R&B / Soul spot, I’m torn between James Brown or Aretha Franklin, but I think I’ll give Aretha the nod just for her great performances in the Blues Brothers movies. For my rapper, I’m not sure who would be better between Tupac or Eminem so I’ll go with someone else. No one will ever be able to accuse me of forgetting about Dre. Dr. Dre gets the nod. Now we’re left with country and rock. I want to say Alice for the rock, but I’ll go a little more traditional and mainstream here and go with Elvis. As for country, screw the mainstream. It’s gotta be Waylon.
You’re selecting cast members for a “Legend’s House” of music. Who are your picks?
So we’re looking for 8-10 entertainment personalities that are diverse, talented and would be fun to see in a reality show setting. I’ll mix up country, rock, pop and rap to keep it really interesting. Both men and women too. My cast for the musical version of “Legend’s House” would be Cyndi Lauper, Macklemore, Billy Ray Cyrus, Boy George, Betty Wright, Shooter Jennings, Flea, 2Chainz and Little Kim. Admit it. You’d watch.
5 Favorite Christmas songs?
Little Drummer Boy – The Bing Crosby / David Bowie edition, Hard Candy Christmas by Dolly Parton, Do They Know It’s Christmas Time At All by Band Aid, Jingle Bell Rock by Hall & Oates and lastly, You’re A Mean One Mister Grinch by Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa.
Who are the future stars of tomorrow that we should keep an eye on?
The ones who immediately come to mind are former Facebook sensation, Kane Brown, the totally unique and amazing Puddles Pity Party, the group known as Post Modern Jukebox and Mr. Steve Grand. If you don’t know these names, just pay attention because you will…
You’re in charge of rebooting American Idol with a new host, new judges, etc. Who do you hire?
Replacing Ryan Seacrest as the “host” would be the hardest thing since Seacrest is annoying, but also kind has a charm about him that makes him likable. I’d go to the world of sports-entertainment to find my new “host” though and find someone who is also kind of annoying, but also has a kind of charm about him. Mainly because I can’t think of anyone else, I’d hire the WWE’s Zack Ryder. Why not? He could “woo woo woo” and introduce the acts and I think he’d be fine for the role. As for the judges, I’d want people who are experienced, entertaining and also have a large following to bring in the viewers. I’d want artists from a wide variety of music genres as well. How about Darryl Hall from the duo “Hall & Oates”? Then lets move over to the country music genre and I think that Travis Tritt would be a good pick. Of course we need a female and how about R&B legend, the one and only Betty Wright. And finally, since I’d want four judges and I’d want at least one to be of the younger crowd that is new and more modern music, how about the one and only Pink. It’s a varied and unique group that represents pop, R&B, soul, country, modern rock, etc. And these are the best names not named Alice Cooper. Wait. Change my answer. Replace Darryl Hall with Alice Cooper and there you go. My judges. And let the shows begin.
You’re booking a “VH1 Divas” concert. Who would you invite to perform and who would be your headliners?
For my headliners, who would only maybe do one song each or as many as they want because they’re legends, I’d have Tina Turner, Cher and Aretha Franklin. My other “Divas” would be Emmylou Harris, Gretchen Wilson, Ann and Nancy Wilson (Heart), Lita Ford, Betty Wright, Rickie Lee Jones, Linda Davis and Miley Cyrus.
5 greatest musical movies?
In no particular order, it’s Rent!, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hairspray, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Hair! With honorable mention going to Annie, Shock Treatment and Bye Bye Birdie (the original).
Who’s better – Michael Jackson or Prince?
Prince is a true legend and amazing and I truly enjoyed and loved most of his work. But that being said, Prince was only a “prince”. Michael was the “King of Pop” and in my eyes, a king beats a prince every time. Micheal was truly a one-of-a-kind icon and talent. I liked both, but of the two, I’m in the Michael camp.
And that’s all for now. Comments, thoughts and any questions, let me know. Talk to me, my Peeps. Thanks for reading. And until the next time, stay just too sweet! Love ya – mean it.
