Movies / TV Fact or Fiction
Ruby Rose, Mile 22, Chris Pine and More
August 18, 2018
Welcome back to another thrilling edition of Fact or Fiction, the TV and movies edition. The questions come from the fine folks over at 411mania.com. And I’ve got the answers. Let’s just jump right into it, shall we? And away we go…
Mile 22 will prove to be a forgettable action-thriller
FACT: The Mark Wahlberg fans will like it and so will fans of Ronda Rousey, but when the smoke clears, it’ll be just another generic action flick that you’ll vaguely remember and every so often, watch on Netflix because you like guns and violence, just one of a thousand others exactly the same.
Ruby Rose will do a good job as Batwoman in The CW’s Arrowverse.
FACT: I don’t know much about Ruby Rose other than she was in the John Wick movie and that everyone seems to be all pissed off and hounding her for taking the role, but if the producers and people behind the CW and Batwoman didn’t think she could do it, they wouldn’t have hired her. I prefer to reserve my judgement until I actually see her work in the role, but from the little I’ve seen before, I think she’ll do just fine.
Star Trek 4 should be a no-go if Chris Pine doesn’t sign on board.
FICTION: I don’t care much for the new Star Trek films and if Pine is on board or not, if they want to keep the series going, just recast and go for it. It’s Hollyweird and even though it might hurt a bit at the box office at first by not having Pine as Captain Kirk, if the movie is good enough, the fans will eventually come. Pine wasn’t the first Captain Kirk and he won’t be the last. If he doesn’t want to be in the movie, screw him. Just cut the losses and move on.
You’re intrigued by Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone revival for CBS All-Access.
FICTION: Just another that doesn’t need to be made and another show that I probably won’t be watching. Peele is a good choice to handle things if the reboot must happen, but personally, I’d rather see CBS come up with an original idea for a show instead of taking something from fifty years ago and trying to “make it better”.
The Academy Awards’ new “Best Popular Film” category will end up being a positive move for the awards show.
FICTION: It’s a cheap and desperate trick to draw in new viewers who would rather watch the Marvel Cinematic flicks or C*ck-Blockers than a great drama or gut wrenching chick flick that bores everyone to tears. No one cares about these award shows anymore and adding new awards to try to draw in the casual viewers isn’t going to help things. If “Airplane” never won an Academy Award, then they’re not worth messing with to begin with.
With the Coven and Murder House storylines crossing over, American Horror Story: Apocalypse could easily be the show’s best season yet.
FACT: I don’t watch the show, but the vast majority of the fan comments I’ve read are very positive. The show is very popular and manages to be successful with both fans and critics so they must have something good going on there. No reason to see that it can’t or won’t continue in the same direction and continue to be everyone’s favorite.
And there you go. Questions, comments and anything else is welcome and appreciated. Let me know what you think. And with that, until the next time, I’m out of here. See you at the movies. Take care.
