Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
Strowman, Omega, NXT Invasion & More
September 3, 2018
It’s time once again to do that thing we do. You know the one, the Fact or Fiction thing. And this time, it’s about the greatest pseudo-sport in the world with the best athletes in the world, bar none, wrestling. The questions, as per usual, come from my friends over at 411mania.com/wrestling. And the answers and opinions that follow, that’s all me. Congratulations to “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes on his big victory last night at ALL IN! and on capturing the NWA World Heavyweight Wrestling Championship. Dusty would be so proud. Now, let’s get to Facting and Fictioning. Let’s do this…
1. WWE made the right call turning Braun Strowman heel.
FICTION: It doesn’t make any sense. Braun has been the bad-ass, kicking Roman’s ass all over the WWE and dominating everyone in his path in route to challenging for the Universal Championship and just because Roman called in some help from Rollins & Ambrose, reuniting The SHIELD, it doesn’t mean that Braun should throw away all the good will and love he’s built to all of a sudden hook up with Dolph and McIntyre. The Braun we’ve been seeing would fight The Shield on his own or else, if help is required, his former mentor Bray Wyatt would be the logical one to turn to. And since Luke Harper isn’t doing anything right now on Smackdown Live, due to the injuries to Erick Rowan, just move him over to RAW and you have the reunited Wyatt Family versus The SHIELD. That makes sense and it keeps Braun as a fan favorite since Bray is also currently a “good guy” and Harper has been a tweener for the most part, depending upon who he’s up against. I don’t know what the WWE and Vince are thinking with this move. Just plain dumb!
2. You have no faith in WWE properly running an NXT invasion angle of the main roster.
FACT: WWE knows how to start an invasion, but has no idea how to book the stories and keep it going where it makes sense and keeps both groups strong. Maybe if someone like Heyman and HHH were to do and handle the entire story and booking while Vince takes a long vacation and goes off to XFL Football camp, it might stand a chance, but since we know that won’t happen, I hope that the idea of this story and angle doesn’t either. If it happens, it will fail… badly. Mark my words on that.
3. Pro Wrestling Illustrated is correct, Kenny Omega is the #1 wrestler in the world.
FACT: Look at what the man has accomplished in New Japan and then again on Saturday as part of “ALL IN!”. I’m not a big Omega fan, but there is no denying what a skilled wrestler and talent this man has become. Best in the world? CM Punk might not agree, but for now, I will.
4. You are all in on WWE making Kevin Owens a Paul Heyman guy.
FACT: Owens doesn’t really need anyone to talk for him, but he’s pretty much just been treading water since moving to RAW a few months ago. An alliance with Heyman would give Owens an extra dimension and boost for his career and cement him firmly among the top talents in the WWE. And imagine the banter and promos. Owens works best when he has a regular partner to go back and forth with, such as his partnership with Jericho, his friendship with Sami Zayn, etc. Heyman would be excellent in a role like this. I’ve heard that it’s just a rumor and that there is no truth to this possibility, but if that’s wrong and it turns out to be true, I would not complain a single bit.
5. Following Monday’s angle, Baron Corbin will end up stealing Braun Strowman’s MITB case and attempt to cash it in.
FACT: At first I thought this was a stupid idea, but with Corbin as the “Acting General Manager”, it makes sense. Strowman is challenging Roman for the Universal Championship and doesn’t need the MITB contract so he gives it to Corbin. Corbin brings the contract to ringside at the Hell In A Cell match and as the match ends, regardless of who wins, gives the contract the referee, orders him as “Acting General Manager” to ring the bell and cashes it in, thus winning the title to make up for his first time as a MITB contract holder where he cashed in and lost the match. This time, he strikes gold and walks out a Champion, screwing over Roman and Braun both. Hell, it works for me.
6. You have no interest in the rumored Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella match at WWE Evolution.
FACT: Nikki is okay I guess, but I was hoping that we’d see Stephanie McMahon use Evolution as an opportunity to get even with Ronda for nearly breaking her arm and humiliating her by bringing in a hired “hit woman” to face Ronda instead. I was thinking Kharma or Victoria or hell, even Beth Phoenix for this role and the match against Ronda. If it has to be Nikki Bella, so be it, but I’d rather see someone who could actually be thought of as a challenge to Rousey instead.
And there you go. Comments, thoughts and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Thank you for reading. And I guess that call’s it a night for me. I have Harry Potter fan fiction to read and a Dr. Druid story to write. Just busy, busy, busy. Until the next time my friends, have a great one and I’ll catch you on the flipside. Take care.
