A Little Help From My Friends
The Beatles

“What would you think if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song
And I’ll try not to sing out of key

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends
Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends”

I guess, with all due respect to the Beatles, I should change the lyrics a bit from “sang” to “write” because I’m a writer and not a singer. Believe me, if you were to hear me sing, I don’t think you’d stand around for too long and would probably walk out on me. My singing voice can be compared to three cats having a cat-orgy in a cactus patch surrounded by a pack of coyotes and Minnie Pearl. No, I’m not really much of a singer, but I am a writer. That’s why you’re here and why this site, DougMaynard.com, even exists.

But no one does it alone and while it’s true that 97.95% of the content and writing on this site is written by me, with my thoughts, ideas, concepts, dialogue and booty-shaking, I have some help. I have friends who serve as my inspiration, my blocks, my sounding boards, my muses if you will and these men and women deserve a nod and shout out. These fine folks are the reason that I am who I am, write what I write and live the life I do. And if I write something that you don’t like or agree with, then you can blame that on them as well. Just kidding!

I want to give the powers behind the throne, the magic behind the man, the credit and love they deserve. Look at these folks. Go read their sites. Listen to their podcasts. Watch their videos. Visit their places of business. These people rock and in the word of The Miz, are “AWESOME!”. Go check them out. You’ll be glad you did.

Before I give the cheap plug to my friends and associates, I have to mention someone who isn’t here. My brother and sister-in-law (or is it son and daughter-in-law? Depends on who you ask!) have a site of their own called the AK Files. It’s not ready to go yet, but when it is, I will be sharing as much as I can and keeping you updated regularly. Both A & K are intelligent, creative, slightly deranged (more than slightly in K’s case) and fluent in the language of smartassism. It’s a thing, believe me. And when they get things rolling, the world will never be the same again. You have been warned and I can’t wait. It’s that Infamous thing taken to the next level, bigger. badder and better than ever. So keep the eyes open for that. And now, on with the show.

The Drunken Fools Podcast

Austin McInnis is a really cool young man that regularly comes into my place of employment. He’s smart, funny and slightly warped. And he has a podcast called, “The Drunken Fools Podcast”. And so I gave it a listen. And I laughed. And I groaned. And I said, “What the…,?” a few times as well. A great listen and just lots of good, slightly intoxicated fun. Yes, they take the title of the show very seriously and may partake of adult beverages at times during the recording. Just go and listen and enjoy. Here is how they introduce themselves on Soundcloud.

Welcome to The Drunken Fools Podcast! Join your host Austin McInnis and friends wile they enjoy a few drinks and have provocative conversations.
We will be trying to promote artist, musicians, comedians, and writers when we can so stay tuned.

And finally…

Clips Haircuts For Men

I was there when the idea for Clips first formed. I was in on the planning and setting up of the business. I was there when our first and bestest stylist, Jennifer was hired. And I’m there every few weeks to get my hair cut, talk and bounce ideas off of Jennifer and enjoy the great customer service and great haircuts. It doesn’t matter if you’re man, woman or child. It doesn’t matter what kind of hair you have, be it long, straight, kinky or whatever. They got it covered.

For a great haircut, with fast and prompt service, at a reasonable price, Clip’s Haircuts For Men is the place to go. It’s in the Scotland Crossing Shopping Center in Laurinburg, NC, two doors down from Food Lion. Open until 6PM Tuesday through Saturday, it’s Clip’s Haircuts For Men. We want to cut your hair.

@@@ band blues

These people are awesome. These people rock! These people are the powers behind the throne here at the site. And these people are just that damn good! They are my support system and my rocks. Plus they’re all sexy beasts too. Go check them out. Tell them that Dougie sent you. And rock on my friends. Rock on!

Here’s Joe Cocker singing the song, written by the Beatles, but making it totally his own. It’s a great song. I should sing it. No, I shouldn’t, but I will play the video for you because it is so totally true. It’s how I get by… with a little help from my friends.
