Tossing Salt Presents:
5 Questions: Comics
Suicide Squad, Iron Fist, TV Series & More
September 30, 2018
Time for some Q&A questions about the world of comic books and comic related media, aka The MCU, Arrowverse, etc. The questions are from my fellow comic lover and clean-house advocate Michael. And the answers are just me, myself and I. Let’s do this…
I’m a big fan of DC’s “Suicide Squad”. Create a “suicide squad” of Marvel comic characters.
So Amanda Waller goes to the world of Marvel and gets access to the folks at the Vault and The Raft and gets to create a new version of the Suicide Dquad. I think a good team would be, The Sandman, Rhino, Pyro, The Belladonna (look her up – old Iron Man foe), Sabretooth, Typhoid Mary and Boomerang.
Thoughts on Season 2 of “Iron Fist” on Netflix.
Far better than Season 1. In some ways, it probably should have been more “Coleen” than Iron Fist, but it was still paced well, moved quickly and filled in a lot of holes left from last season. I was kind of bummed that we didn’t see Luke Cage, Jessica Jones or Daredevil make an appearance, but Luke and Murdock were mentioned and we got plenty of Misty Knight, which was cool. No Rosario Dawson (Claire), but she was mentioned too and not forgotten and given the story over at the Luke Cage series, her absence makes sense. And the ending of Season 2? Watch it because it’s something I didn’t see coming and a great way to end things. So when does Season 3 start because I’m ready.
Best comic book based television series?
Well, you have the obvious Arrowverse series because DC may suck with their movies, but DC and the CW have done a great job with Arrow, Flash, Legends, Supergirl, etc. Even Black Lightning is decent. And Marvel isn’t quite there yet, but Cloak & Dagger is a great step in the right direction. And the show “The Gifted”, it’s great. I binge watched Season 1 last week and was very impressed. Season 2 just started this past week on Fox and so far, so good. For the moment, that would be my favorite among all the shows currently available. I don’t much care for Legion, Gotham, Agents of Shield or the Krypton series right now, but I’m not knocking them. I just haven’t had the time to go watch and figure them out yet and catch up. But the Arrowverse shows and The Gifted are definitely worth watching and taking a look-see at.
6 Characters ( 3 Marvel & 3 DC ) that you think would make a good movie or TV series.
Both Marvel and DC have been pretty thorough about pulling out the older and obscure characters and giving them roles in their shows and movies and haven’t missed many of the best characters, but there are a few. For Marvel, I’d love to see a series about Dr. Druid (preferably a Netflix style series). Also, Greer Grant Nelson, aka “Tigra” would be a fun character to see brought to life on the small screen. And finally, how about the Canadian group Alpha Flight. Characters like Heather Hudson, Vindicator, Shaman, Sasquatch, Snowbird, Puck, Madison Jeffries, Northstar, Aurora and so many more. The ultimate dysfunctional government controlled super group. It’d make for a great movie or series. And as for DC, the main characters that come to mind that are not, so far as I know, already being used would be Zan & Jayna, the Wonder Twins (from the old Super Friends cartoon), Funky Flashman (the ultimate con-man from the old Secret Society of Super Villains comic book – look him up) and Mirror Master. He was one of my favorite Flash foes and unless I accidentally missed it, I haven’t seen him pop up anywhere yet. And there you go.
Should Coleen Wing and Misty Knight (Nightwing Restorations) be given their own series on Netflix?
Not at this point, no. Coleen is too big a supporting character to be taken away from the Iron Fist series and Misty is too important on the Luke Cage show to be removed. So as important as they are, working those two shows in the way that they have been thus far is probably the better idea. Of course, when the next season of The Defenders comes up though, I do expect to see both women (and Patsy Walker as the Hellcat) as part of the team along with Luke, Danny, Jessica and Matt. Just saying.
And that’s all of that for now. Go read a comic. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks for reading this too. Thoughts and comments are welcome and would be greatly appreciated. Until the next time, take care.
