Tossing Salt Presents:
Ted Turner, Roman Reigns, Guest Hosts & More
October 3, 2018
It’s time for some Q&A about the world of sports-entertainment that I prefer to call professional wrestling. The questions are well thought out and are from a man named Dave. The answers, woo woo woo, you know it! Let’s do this…
With Ted Turner’s recent announcement of declining health, do you think maybe WWE would put him in the HOF in 2019? Seems like he would be a good fit and a good draw for fan interest and mainstream interest.
I think that Ted Turner would make a great addition to the WWE Hall of Fame and it would be a really good gesture on the part of Vince McMahon to invite him and honor him with such a spot. Turner was responsible in many ways for helping to take wrestling from being territorial to being national with the SuerStation WTBS in the late 70’s and 80’s and if not for Turner and his decision to put Eric Bischoff in charge of WCW and instruct him to create Nitro, we wouldn’t have had the Monday Night Wars, the Attitude Era or many of the things that we now take for granted. Turner’s influence in professional wrestling in undeniable and it would make for great media attention to see Turner be inducted. A win / win for everyone involved.
Who in your opinion was/is the best pro-Russia, anti-American heel currently in the WWE Hall of Fame? Do you think it’s Nikolai Volkoff, or do you think it’s Donald Trump?
Volkoff redeemed himself in later years and was a proud American supporter after being mistreated by Ted DiBiase and his “Million Dollar Corporation” and turning Face. That being said, he, along with Ivan Koloff, who’s not in the WWE Hall of Fame, but definitely should be, were probably the two best “Russians” of their time and did great work in being the foreign scum heels. As for Trump, there is no evidence that he ever had any kind of collusion with Russian although there is plenty of proof that the U.S. State Department, under the control of Hillary Clinton, sold Russia a large amount of Uranium in exchange for political donations to the Clinton Foundation. Trump has always been strongly pro-American and is trying to correct the damages caused by the previous Administration and part Presidents. So with all of that in mind, Volkoff was the best Russian and the person who asked this letter is a stupid idiot for mixing a great thing like wrestling with partisan politics and questions of this nature.
What is your honest opinion of Roman Reigns ?
A good solid worker who has good matches, but isn’t really a great talker. I think a lot of that has to do though with the scripted nature of WWE promos and if he was allowed to be more of himself when he cut promos, he would get over a lot better. He’s got a great look and works hard and deserves his spot at the top of the card, although he would get over better if it was more natural and not pushed quite so hard down the throats of the fans by WWE. He’s the right guy (or one of them) for the top spot, but just hasn’t quite found his niche yet.
What feud was better, Midnight Express vs Rock n Roll Express, or The Fantastics vs Midnight Express ?
Nothing against the Fantastics because Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers were a great team, but the Midnights versus The Rock & Roll Express were the matches that legends are made from. Put any combination of the Midnights in that ring against Ricky & Robert and throw Jim Cornette at ringside and you know that you’re watching a clinic on tag team wrestling that is for the ages.
Between the stiff kicks to Liv Morgan, and the two botched suicide dives in the same match, should there be a concern that Brie Bella has been a little reckless in the ring since her return?
I’ve spoken on this several times already and yes, it is a problem. Brie has never been a great wrestler by any stretch of the imagination and after a long lay-off and having a baby, she’s suffering from major ring rust. Her body has changed as well and it’s not responding quite as it once did and thus, botches are happening. Brie needs to get to the Performance Center and start working house shows to work out the kinks and get things where they need to be. Her screw ups are not intentional, but I’d keep her out of the ring at TV until she can get things right if I was WWE, just to keep her and everyone else safe until she’s back up to peak form and ready to go again.
What are your thoughts on WWE running the Saudi Arabia event, where women are forbidden to compete on the card, days after running the Evolution show where women’s empowerment is a major highlight?
I think that these are two totally different events and can’t really be compared. Evolution is happening because the women are hotter right now than ever before and deserve the chance to do their own show and strut their stuff. The event in Saudi Arabia is happening because WWE is getting paid big time money to do it and WWE is a business who’s main goal, above everything else, is to make as much money as possible. The women are getting a big spot and the WWE is making a lot of money. It’s another win – win for everyone.
Who was your favorite Raw Guest Hosts?
Betty White and The Muppets. It was also fun watching Umaga beat up Steve O and the Jackass guys for not selling properly.
And there you go. Thank you for reading. Thoughts, comments and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Let me know what up and what you think. And with that, I’m gone. I have to go out and do something. Have a great night, stay safe and I’ll see you at the matches. Take care.
