Crown Jewel, Crockett Cup & More

It’s time to do some Q&A about the world’s greatest form of entertainment, pro wrestling. The questions today come from Jody. And I have the answers. Let’s do this…

Do you think that the “Best In The World” tag for the WWE World Cup matches at Crown Jewel is a WWE shot at CM Punk?

Of course it is. WWE doesn’t do anything without a reason, even if the reason is petty and childish. I’m sure that they’ll be happy to give all sorts of reasons to justify that tag-line and the reasons will be valid and make sense, but you have to know that HHH, Vince and WWE Creative knowing that this could also annoy Punk a bit, they’re laughing on the inside.

Do you think that WWE will suffer any kind of backlash from advertisers / investors because of WWE Crown Jewel?

While there has been some fallout from the press and public relations, I’m sure that when the final decision was made to go on and continue with the Crown Jewel event, WWE’s business partners were included in the decision making. If USA Network or even FOX had said “No”, the event wouldn’t be happening. Everyone knows that it will all blow over pretty quickly and the money to be made outweighs any cons to holding the event as scheduled.

Should Cody come back to the WWE? Do you think he will?

I think he will eventually, once he finishes up with what he wants to do on the Indy scene. He wanted to prove a point and he’s done exactly that with ROH, New Japan and the NWA, but there’s no place like home and for Cody, WWE is home. It’s not if, but just when, probably in about another year or so.

If you could bring back an event from the past for a current WWE special, what event would it be?

My big favorite from the past was always WCW Slamboree: A Legend’s Reunion, where they had current matches, plus a few “Legend’s Matches” where stars from the past competed against each other and the whole event was full of cameos by stars of days gone by, from my era and the era before. It was a great nostalgia event and once a year or so, I’d like to see it revisited. I know that WWE does “Old School Raw” and that’s all cool and good, but how about an entire card / event dedicated to the legends and heroes of yesterday? They have the network now so it’s possible to make happen. I wish they would.

Thoughts on Billy Corgan’s NWA bringing back the Crockett Cup Tournament next year?

Corgan is aligning himself with the Crockett Foundation and being a very smart businessman. He realizes that it’s the old school fans and die-hards that he needs to win over if he wants to keep the NWA alive and make money in the process and a sentimental favorite, like the Crockett Cup, is a great way to reach out and pull those fans in while at the same time, attracting new fans and a new audience. It’s a good move by Corgan and I commend him for it.

The Revival versus The Midnight Express (in their prime) – who wins?

The Midnight Express, Lane and Eaton, of course. They have Jim Cornette in their corner and if Dawson or Wilder starts to get an advantage, Corny would whack them in the head with the tennis racket and the Express would steal the win, as it should be.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Questions, comments and any other thoughts are welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take care and stay just too sweet. Love you, mean it.
