Notes To Myself IX
Witches, Kersey, Fireball, OMC & More
October 28, 2018
I think I need to clean out some of the clutter off of my desk. Whenever an idea for a topic to write about or a Top 10 list or anything really comes into my head, I write it down on a piece of paper and stack it on my desk. Some of the things, like questions for the assorted Q&A’s, are used immediately when I am able to access my computer and have the time. Others are just stacked up for future reference as when it’s time to do a “Day of Dougie” or I’m feeling inspired and want to write, but don’t have a particular topic in mind. I pick up the first piece of paper on my stack and there you go, instant getting busy time.
And then there are days like today where I feel like doing something, but nothing sounds appealing to me. Not YouTube or Netflix or spending time with the family. I have the urge to be productive, but my anti-social tendencies and mistrust of everyone and everything out there that is not my cat is strong today. Actually, I’m just tired of stuff and need to do some soul searching and find my happy place again. I need some major change in my life. Believe that! Maybe I should start drinking again. When I was drunk all the time, I didn’t get a rats ass about anything and being taken for granted didn’t hurt quite so badly. Actually, it doesn’t hurt anymore. I’m used to it and that’s the sad thing.
But I’m starting to sound all whiney and depressed and I’m actually not. I just want to do something productive today. I’m so glad that no one actually ever reads anything on this site except for the wrestling and movies stuff. I just need a long vacation away from everyone and everything. Or maybe just a good lay. Hey guys, anyone want to help a brutha out? Are you still reading this? I kid! I kid! (Not really!) So what was I even talking about?
This is what we call “Notes To Myself” and it’s literally just that, notes to myself. I go through this huge stack of papers that I’ve written to myself about ideas for the site and some I’ll set aside for future use, some I’ll look at and laugh and trash immediately and the rest, I’ll do a brief description and talk about whatever it is here and then be done with it. It’s an anything goes and eclectic mix of fun and serious nonsense that runs constantly through the mind of that we know as “Dougie”. And I’m finished with the intro-ramble. Now, it’s time to quit being nice and start being real. Yes, I stole that line from the intro of the “Real World” series from MTV back when that network was still interesting. And away we go…
Anything For Love…
Here’s an idea I had for a future “Days Of Dougie” piece. The song, “Anything For Love” by Meatloaf came on the radio the other day and that line in the chorus, “I will do anything for love, but I won’t do that” got me to thinking. What are the things that I wouldn’t do, even for love. I was thinking write up a quick piece on that and then add the video from YouTube for an extra bonus and it’d be a good piece. But the more I think about it, when I’m in love, I’m an idiot. My past relationships with Haney, with Danny, and so many others, proves that. I won’t hurt someone intentionally and I won’t lie for anyone, but apart from that, my common sense seems to go out the window when some sexy eyes, a nice ass or happy trail is involved. So answering that question would be a lesson in humility and probably not very much fun. I think I’ve spent enough time with that question, but I will place this topic inside the “Magic Bag” so it might end up being part of a piece one day after all. Just not right now. What’s next.
Top Ten Witches…
Here’s a potential “Top Ten” list that I made up while at work a few nights ago. It’s a Halloween piece and it’s the “Top Ten Witches”. I figured I could start off with a Hillary joke about “Top Ten Bitches” and then make a correction and do a list of famous TV and movie witches. I’ll do the list here and then this piece of paper can be trashed as well.
Top Ten Witches of All Time…
10. Winifred Sanderson (Hocus Pocus)
9. Glinda (Wizard Of Oz)
8. Agatha Harkness (Marvel Comics)
7. Witchiepoo (HR Pufnstuf)
6. Endora (Bewitched)
5. Wendy, The Good Little Witch (Comics)
4. The Wicked Witch of The West (Wizard Of Oz)
3. Sabrina The Teenage Witch
2. Willow / Tara (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)
1. Samantha Stephens (Bewitched)
Just picture that list with a lot of extra comments about each character, their history and a picture or two and you get the idea of the column that will probably never happen. And there you go…
Kersey For Sheriff…
Here’s a note about a local political race for Sheriff here in Scotland County. I was all fired up and wanting to do a piece about this race and some of the less than honorable tactics that the person running for Sheriff against the current Sheriff has tried to employ as of late, such as insinuating that the current Sheriff faked having cancer earlier this year and claiming to be upset about a question at a forum , yet he was ready with an answer including pictures? Yet, he didn’t know that question was coming and it’s “dirty politics” for a piece of this guys past to be brought up. He’s implied so many things about the current Sheriff that it’s not even remotely funny anymore. I wanted to do this piece, but my current job and position requires that on local political issues, it’s best that I remain quiet and bite my tongue. So I’ll leave it at this. The current Sheriff is a man I’ve known for almost thirty years. He’s always been totally straight up with me and even when I didn’t like what he had to say or disagreed with him, he was always respectful, polite and fair about it. He doesn’t play the political games, treats everyone fairly and is just a straight up good guy. He’s human so he makes mistakes as we all do, but he owns up to his mistakes and learns and grows, taking responsibility as a man should. So this long winded piece will be shelved. I did my part voting for the current Sheriff to remain in office and I’ll always be a proud member of “Team Kersey”. And if you live in Scotland County and haven’t voted yet, I encourage you to help re-elect the current Sheriff. He’s doing an excellent job and deserves to be re-elected.
The Gay Agenda…
Here’s a list of “5 Questions” about the “Gay Agenda” and what it’s all about. I was going to do this and still may, but at the time I came up with this idea, I decided to shelve it because I’m already pretty much kicked out of the club as it is and most of my thoughts and opinions do not necessarily agree with the ideas and thoughts of the more liberal, brainwashed masses. I tend to look at the bigger picture as it applies to everyone on most issues rather than what’s best for me personally. No, I am not your typical homo and except for my dirty mouth and attraction to men rather than women, I don’t really toe the line very well. Hell, I don’t even really have any close friends that are also gay. What’s up with that? So this may or may not happen, but if it doesn’t, I’ve touched on it here and it’s been covered.
Here’s a list of all of the movies written and directed by Kevin Smith (Clerks), he of the “Jay & Silent Bob” fame. I think the idea was to sit down one day and list all of Smith’s movies, all of which I’ve seen and mostly enjoyed, and rank them from the best to the worst. This is an idea that still has merit and I will probably do one day when I have the time to actually sit down and do it. So this will stay in the pile for now.
Here’s a comment that I made about the song, “How Bizarre”. It was a one-hit wonder by the band OMC and released in December, 1995. I think the song was playing on the radio and it all reminded me of when the band appeared on the “Live With Regis & Kathie Lee” show to promote and perform their song. They had a short interview before the performance and every time the lead singer of the band, Pauly Fuemana, was asked a question, Regis would jump in with his own answer, “How bizarre?”. It was just a rude moment by Regis and probably very frustrating for Pauly and OMC. I remember it pissed me off at the time too and I kept thinking to myself that Regis was being an asshole and needed to let the man talk. It’s a good song and I hear it every so often even now on the radio. It’s amazing though what a person will remember and associate with an older song. I hear this one and think that Regis was an ass. How bizarre!
Pumpkin On Fire Pudding Shots…
Has anyone ever heard of pumpkin pie being made with Fireball Whiskey? We had a woman come into the store and purchased a fifth of Fireball for that very reason, to make a pumpkin pie. It sounds kind of interesting actually and I remember writing this down, vowing to look up the recipe. And what better time than right now? I googled it and don’t see a recipe for an actual pie, but I have found one for Pumpkin Spice Jello Shots. This sounds interesting. Here you go…
PUMPKIN ON FIRE PUDDING SHOTS
YIELD: 12-15 SHOTS (DEPENDING ON SIZE) PREP TIME: 15 MINS COOK TIME: 1 HOUR TOTAL TIME: 1 HOUR AND 15 MINS
1 box pumpkin spice instant pudding (Wal-Mart carries in seasonal baking isle)
1 Â container Cool Whip (8 oz)
1 cup milk
3/4 cup Fireball Whiskey
Extra whipped cream or cool whip and red sprinkles for topping
Step 1: Mix your pumpkin spice pudding and milk in a large bowl with an electric mixer until combined. Will look semi thick.
Step 2: Add your 3/4 cup Fireball Whiskey and Cool Whip. Fold the ingredients into the pudding mixture until combined. (Don’t over mix it, just make sure there are no lumps). Cover and set aside in fridge or freezer to thicken up for at least an hour.
Step 3. Spoon your pudding into a large zip lock bag. Cut off the tip and squeeze into your shot glasses. This is a lot cleaner than spooning it in the shot glasses.
Step 4: Top with extra cook whip or whipped cream and sprinkles.
That sounds good. I think I may have to try it one night. When I do, I’ll do a review.
Here’s an idea I had for a new show for Roseanne not long after she was fired from ABC for her so bad, but so funny tweet about Valerie Jarrett. I really should be this woman’s manager. The idea was this. A new show where an unemployed older woman (Roseanne) finds herself working as a Social Worker dealing with displaced children. We’d call it “Little Orphan Roseannie”. Her co-stars could be John Amos (Good Times), Fred Grandy (Love Boat), Charo and Jerry Mathers as the Beaver. Does this sound like a big hit or what? I’d watch.
Does He Love You?…
Remember this incredible song by Reba and Linda Davis? It’s a great song and I’ve had the distinct pleasure of hearing these ladies sing it live on stage at a concert in Charlotte, NC many years ago. And what I want now is for two men to do a version of this song, with a woman as the person in the middle. Make it “Does She Love You” and let’s see what a couple of guys can do. Or have two gay men (Steve Grand and Eli Lieb come to mind) do a homo-version of this song, with original lyrics and meanings, but from a male point of view. It would be AWESOME!
And I’m going to close this up here. I have a few things to go do as well as a list of top Comic Book Movies that I need to come up with. And there will be other stuff here at the site tonight as well. I’m feeling inspired. Or maybe I need to be inspired? I wonder what’s shaking on MeetMe right now. I love them live feeds. Anyhow, that’s all for now. Thank you for reading. Any thoughts, comments, etc, are welcome and appreciated. Message me here or at my e-mail addy, Doug28352@yahoo.com. I want to hear from you. And now, I’m gone. Have a great one and I’ll catch you later.
