WWE Survivor Series 2018: Thoughts & Predictions

Tossing Salt Presents:
Survivor Series Thoughts & Predictions
November 14, 2018

Coming up this Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA is the 32nd Survivor Series. It’s a big show that has had many changes made in the card for the event and history will be made for the WWE. I think we’ve finally have a card settled. It’s AJ Styles out and Daniel Bryan in. It’s Becky Lynch out and Charlotte in. And it’s RAW versus Smackdown on the one card and event where the two brands go head to head, or so they say. Are you ready for some predictions? Let’s break out the crystal ball and get busy. Time to channel my inner Sister Cleo and away we go. Let’s do this…

WWE Champion Daniel Bryan vs. WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.

Who thinks this is a good idea? Have a wrestler with a history of concussions and neck problems matched up against Brock Lesnar? Is this WWE’s way of telling Bryan that “No, we’re not going to hold a grudge for skipping Crown Jewel. Here’s the WWE Championship. Now go wrestle Brock. Good luck!”. Oh vey! For Bryan, this will be the biggest test he’s faced since returning to active wrestling. I actually like that he did the heel turn and captured the title. We saw AJ versus Brock last year and this one, Bryan versus The Beast is new and fresh… and scary. Look for Bryan to take a lot of abuse and many a trip to Suplex City. And Brock will dominate 90% of the match. Physically, Bryan can’t match up against Brock and that’s pretty obvious. But he can outsmart him and that’s the key here. I’ll go for a surprise upset and Bryan with a roll-up for a sneak pin, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

Winner: Daniel Bryan

WWE Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair.

I was actually looking forward to seeing Ronda versus Becky, but fate (and Nia Jax) got involved and Becky is out so she’s been replaced by Charlotte. I personally would have rather seen Asuka, but I guess this can be used to set up a heel turn by Asuka for being “disrespected” by Becky and Charlotte. And we’ll probably get Becky versus Ronda at Wrestlemania so no complaints there either. This match should be good and fun to watch. Ronda had a good match against Nikki Bella at Evolution so you know that with an opponent like Charlotte, one of the best in the business today, man or woman, the match should be off the charts. As for the final results, Charlotte can afford to take a loss here and there. Ronda can’t at this point and time. So they put on an exhibition and steal the show. And in the end, Ronda makes Charlotte tap out.

Winner: Ronda Rousey

WWE Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins vs. WWE United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura.

Nakamura has absolutely no momentum going right now and while the matches continue to be good, they’re just sort of “eh” at best. Seth is in a major storyline with Dean Ambrose and I think that will show up here as well. A win or loss for Seth doesn’t matter and Nakamura needs a little help to get back on track and get something (anything) going. Look for Ambrose interference and Shinsuke using the infamous low blow to take advantage and get the win.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura

Elimination Match: Team Raw: Bobby Lashley & Finn Balor & Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre & Braun Strowman (with Baron Corbin) vs. Team SmackDown: Jeff Hardy & The Miz & Shane McMahon & Rey Mysterio & Samoa Joe.

Even with all these names and personalities going on, I have no interest at all in this match. So far, I have RAW winning one match and Smackdown winning two so let’s even things up here. Team RAW wins with Drew and Balor being the two final survivors for the red brand.

Winners: Team RAW

Elimination Match: Team Raw: Ruby Riott & Natalya & Tamina & Nia Jax & Mickie James (with Alexa Bliss) vs. Team SmackDown: Asuka & Carmella & Naomi & Sonya Deville & TBA.

I’m more into this match than the men’s match, but not by much. Alexa is there, but not wrestling. I think this one should probably go to RAW. It doesn’t really matter who the 5th woman for Smackdown will be. Asuka will be pissed for being overlooked for the match against Ronda and Carmella will do a dance break and I expect there will be some receipts on Nia on behalf of Becky Lynch. Ruby and Natayla will eliminate each other. Look for Alexa to cause a few problems and in the end, the red team takes home the win. Final survivors will be Mickie & Tamina.

Winner: Team RAW

WWE RAW Tag Team Champions AOP w/ Drake Maverick versus Smackdown Live Tag Team Champions Sheamus & Cesaro (The Bar) w/ The Big Show

This will be a brutal and smash-mouth match for the ages. It could easily go either way, but I don’t think it’s good for the AOP to lose the match this soon into their run as the RAW Tag Team Champs. I think that when the smoke clears and at the end of the night, Smackdown should take home the bragging rights, but I don’t want to see AOP lose and that’s what would have to happen. I’ll go with Big Show knocking out Drake Maverick and the AOP getting counted out as a result of the distraction. That gives Smackdown and The Bar the win and still keeps the AOP strong.

Winners: The Bar w/ The Big Show

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy vs. Mustafa Ali

Buddy Murphy is the man and on a roll. It’s too soon and not time yet to change the belt and champion. Look for Ali to give one hell of a battle and in the final act, the champion will retain.

Winner and STILL WWE Cruiserweight Champion: Buddy Murphy

Elimination Match: Team Raw: Bobby Roode & Chad Gable, The Ascension, The Revival, The Lucha House Party & The B-Team vs. Team Smackdown: The Usos & New Day & The Colons & Luke Gallows / Karl Anderson & Sanity

This is the Kickoff Show match and a way to get everyone not already on the card on to the card. And still no Zack Ryder? What the hell? What happened to the team of Slater and Rhyno? I guess since they were the first team eliminated from the tag team Battle Royal on RAW, they don’t make the cut. I’d rather see them than the Mexicools 2.0. This match will be fast and eliminations will be quick at a “if you blink, you miss it” rate of speed. Most of my personal favorites are on the RAW team (B-Team 4 Life), but this one goes to the blue brand. The Usos and The New Day are the teams to beat and I don’t see anyone doing that here.

Winners: Team Smackdown

And there you go. My thoughts and predictions for the Survivor Series this coming Sunday night. Am I right? Am I wrong? Let’s trip the light fandango and we’ll find out on Sunday night. My thanks for reading. Questions, thoughts and comments welcome. Who do you think will come out on top Sunday night? What are your predictions? Let me know. And with that, I’m gone. Have a great one and I’ll talk at you later.
