Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
WWE Releases, Thunderbolt Patterson, DX & More
February 25, 2019
Welcome to the Q&A portion of our show. The questions today come from Jesse, Matt and a new face here at the Tossing Salt family, Donna. And the answers come from me, myself and I. Let’s do this…
Thoughts on WWE’s releases of Arn Anderson, TJ Perkins, Hideo Atami & Tye Dillinger?
Well Tye Dillinger and Hideo Atami both asked for their releases so there’s nothing really to talk about here. Atami has really be wasted since coming to WWE and is better suited to go back to Japan where he’s known as KENTA and has established a great legacy. Dillinger too has been lost in the shuffle at WWE and realizes that if he wants to be a major player, his best options would be the world of Indy wrestling and perhaps AEW which just so happens to be run by his former tag team partner Cody Rhodes. With Perkins, the word is that he ruffled a few feathers backstage, got some tattoos without clearing it through the office first and things like that. He’s a talented performer though and will do well with places like ROH, MLW and maybe even the before-mentioned AEW. He had some great matches in the past with Neville and now that Neville, now wrestling as Pac is with AEW, who knows. And then there is Arn Anderson. This one is a shocker because Arn has been with WWE for 18 years as an agent and producer and was known to be the “head producer”. From what I understand, something happened at a house show and Arn took the blame and he and Vince had words and Arn is now gone, end of story. I’m sure that there’s more to it than that, but given that he’s sixty years old and there have been so many new agents added to the WWE as of late, I think WWE and Vince may have been looking for a way to trim the fat so to speak and it just happens to be at Arn’s expense. I’m sure that after the heat cools down, they’ll sign him to a “Legend’s Deal” if he’s not already under one and I also think that, given the comments by Cody Rhodes about how much he respects Arn, that Double-A won’t be out of work for long and has a future with AEW if he desires one. Actually, any wrestling company with half a brain should be trying to snatch up “The Enforcer” and add him to their backstage roster. I’m sure that sooner rather than later, we’ll see Vince and WWE try to mend fences with Arn and bring him back into the fold, but for now, the future for the former Horsemen is limitless. It’s just a matter of wait and see what happens next.
Thoughts on Thunderbolt Patterson?
I don’t get him and never have. He was a lousy wrestler and when he talked his gibberish, the same schtick that Dusty Rhodes “borrowed”, it was like “what the hell is he saying?”. But he was over like syrup and pecans on a waffle. The fans, especially the black fans in the Georgia territory, loved this man and would pack the arenas to see him. Despite all the stories about how “racist” Ole Anderson allegedly was, he made sure to form a good team with Patterson and as partners, then foes, they drew money and made it work for years. Patterson was one of those guys that couldn’t wrestle and couldn’t talk, but was still never at a loss for words and had that “it” about him. I don’t get it, but the promoters did and the fans did and I guess that was what mattered most.
Should Linda McMahon be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame?
For all of her work behind the scenes at WWE while she was the President and running the company, absolutely. She was the business side while Vince was the creative one and it worked and worked well to grow WWE into a multi-billion dollar world wide corporation. But will she get it? Maybe one day after she’s retired from politics and public life, but right now, as an active member of the Trump administration, it’s not going to happen.
If the rumors are true and Kurt Angle is planning on having a retirement match at Wrestlemania 35, who should his opponent be?
Baron Corbin looks like a likely suspect, but I think that the fans (myself included) are tired of Corbin versus Angle and if Kurt is to finally bow out, it should be someone else. If Jason Jordon, his “son” was able to wrestle, he’d be the perfect person, but it looks as if he’s not going to return to active wrestling anytime soon. Given their history, Brock Lesnar would be good, but Brock doesn’t need the rub. I think that maybe Chad Gable could be an option if he’s not too busy with the tag team stuff with Bobby Roode. Hell, go with Allisteir Black. Why? Because he’s not Baron Corbin and he’s the next big thing for WWE anyways.
Chris Hemsworth as Hulk Hogan in a movie adaption of Hogan’s life. Good idea?
Why not? It’s going to be a while before we actually see this movie, probably several years, and if Hemsworth, best known for being “Thor” in the MCU movies, has attached his name to the project, it stands a far better chance of being made and being successful than if some lesser known actor was to be the star. I can see Hemsworth as a young Hogan in some ways although he’ll have to tone down his acting abilities to get to Hogan’s level. It should be an interesting movie if ever happens. I hope it does.
Do you plan on seeing the movie “Fighting With My Family” about Paige?
Absolutely. The reviews have been great and anytime you have a wrestling movie that is actually respectful to the sport of wrestling, I want to see and enjoy it. I’ll have to wait for it to start streaming somewhere or maybe find a bootleg to watch since it’s only limited release right now, but I do want to see this Rock produced film.
Who do you think should be part of the “Legacy Inductions” for the Hall of Fame Class of 2019?
The names that immediately come to mind are the members of the WCW Hall of Fame that haven’t already been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on their own merits (Angelo Poffo, Gordon Solie, The Assassin, Crusher, Dick the Bruiser, Mr. Wrestling II, Ole Anderson, Lou Thesz & Eddie Graham). Throw in a few territory legends like Baron Von Raschke, Paul Jones, Johnny Weaver and maybe a woman that today’s fans might not remember, but was a true legend like Ann Casey or Penny Banner and that would be my “Legacy Class” for this year.
Shouldn’t Rick Rude be included as part of the DX induction into the WWE Hall of Fame along with HHH, HBK, X-Pac, Chyna & The New Age Outlaw
I would say yes, but Rude was already inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017 so his not being included in this already large grouping is not a big deal at this point.
And there you go. My thanks for the questions and thank you for reading. Questions, comments and any thoughts welcome and appreciated.
