Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Sting, Undertaker, DJZ, Hulk Hogan & More
March 22, 2019
Are you ready for some wrestling? I’ve heard that Canadian women with broken noses really enjoy reading Q&A’s. Hopefully, that applies to the rest my loyal readers (all three of you) as well. The first three questions came from Matt and the remaining ones are from Jesse. And the responses and answers, those are from me. Let’s do this…
Should Beth Phoenix replace Corey Graves as the color commentator for Smackdown Live when it moves to Fox?
This all depends upon if Beth is going to return to the ring and wrestle a full time schedule or this upcoming reunion with tag team partner Natayla is just a short-timed run that will eventually see Natayla return to singles action and Beth go back to commentating. If it’s the latter, I would definitely consider Beth a great option to take over the Smackdown Live announce position when the show moves to Fox. It’s nothing against Corey because he’s great and probably one of the best color guys in recent years, but he’s badly over-exposed working both RAW and Smackdown and WWE would be better served to let hm remain on one show and have someone else work the third position in the announce booth on the other. Beth has really become a very good commentator as of late and would be a good person to consider. Aiden English, currently working 205 Live, would be another great option if WWE wants to keep a more traditional announce team. But bottom line is too much Corey is not necessarily a good thing and it would be better for all involved to split his announce duties with someone else, especially once Smackdown debuts on Fox.
Should AEW go after Joey Styles to be a part of their announcing team?
While I like Joey Styles and enjoy his announcing style, it’s been a few years since he’s been involved in wrestling and has moved on from the business. Sure, AEW should maybe send out some feelers and see if Joey might be interested in maybe working some dates in the AEW announce booth, but I doubt if he would be interested in anytime long term and also, I think the main focus by AEW should be new talents, new announcers, etc. Plan for the future and not live in the past.
Thoughts on former Impact star DJZ (Zema Ion) being signed to NXT?
I’m happy to see it. DJZ has always been, since day one with Impact, one of my favorite TNA characters and he’s still young with a big future ahead of him. I think NXT is exactly where he should be and I commend WWE for giving the man a shot. It’ll be interesting to see where this goes and what it leads to, but hopefully, it’ll work out and Ion can be groomed into a big star for the company.
Is Tully Blanchard right when he says that the Four Horsemen can never be replicated?
The Horsemen were a fluke of nature, the right place and right time with the right people, five true legends who had that special chemistry and magic that just clicked and created a legacy and history. It was right because it was the first and all the planets were aligned and the wrestling gods decreed it so. It couldn’t happen in today’s business.
Thoughts about the Undertaker not having a match at Wrestlemania?
We still have a couple of weeks so it’s possible that this will change, but it is kind of odd that not only has Taker not been scheduled for a match at this point, but his name hasn’t even been coming up often in conversations. I did read that he is planning on taking part in the two upcoming Saudi Arabia events later this year, but Mania doesn’t appear to be on the calendar, at least not at this point. Of course, all of this can change with just one promo on RAW or Smackdown, but I guess with as many as 17 matches being talked about to get everyone on the show, a match featuring a battered and shell of an Undertaker isn’t a top priority for WWE. I hope this changes and we see him doing something at the event, but only time will tell.
Sting says that only way he’ll ever return to the ring is for a match against Undertaker. Thoughts?
Taker needs a match and Sting has just tossed WWE the ball to make it happen and make it a big one. Sting can show up on RAW this Monday and just cut a promo or send in a video or anything really, but just say Taker and Wrestlemania and then Taker can respond in some fashion next Monday and with two names this big, that’s all you need. I know that Taker has been working down at the Performance Center as of late and also has a ring at his home so we know he’s ready. I’m sure that Sting has stayed in good shape and can handle a short match, especially if WWE uses a lot of smoke and mirrors as you know that they will. This one should happen and now would be the perfect time before it’s too late.
Thoughts on Hulk Hogan being brought in as part of Wrestlemania 35?
It’s Hulk Hogan and it’s Wrestlemania. Makes perfect sense to me, brother!
Keep Baron Corbin as Kurt Angle’s final opponent at Wrestlemania or replace him?
It seems as if the backlash WWE has been getting has been pretty intense and I expect that sometime in the next two weeks, we’ll see Corbin “injured” or some other situation will happen and Corbin will be removed as Angle’s final opponent. I’d love to see Shelton Benjamin as I mentioned in my Q&A a couple of days ago, but most likely, it’ll be “Big Match John” making a return and stepping up to give Angle a big name, a big match and a proper send-off. Angle versus Cena anyone? It’s the most natural selection that’s not part of “Team Angle” and it makes the most sense in many, many ways.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Thoughts, comments and any questions welcome and appreciated. I need new questions daily so help a brother out. Until the next time, stay safe and don’t forget to support your local Indy wrestling. Have a great one and I’ll see you at the matches.
