5 Questions: Comics & Movies
Fantastic Four, X-Men, Suicide Squad & More

My friend John, who is a big comics guy as am I and with who I’ve had many long, detailed and often heated discussions with over the past decade or so about superheroes, comic book movies, characters and Buffy, sent me these questions to use in a piece here at the site. My thanks homie. And now, let’s talk heroes and the MCU. Let’s do this…

How would you introduce the Fantastic Four into the MCU?

Obviously, they would be late arrivals, coming into the picture after Avengers: Endgame hits the screen. So here we go with the MCU back to normal and Nick Fury or Maria Hill complaining about a scientist that is giving them fits. Turns out the guy, Reed Richards, is an old school chum of Tony Stark’s and he is working on experiments with cosmic rays. Stark and Dr. Banner are asked to assist him in a big experiment and when they do, there is an attack by an old rival of Richards, Dr. Doom. Doom attacks to sabotage their experiment and in the melee that follows, Richards and his family, Sue Storm, her brother Johnny and their friend Ben Grimm are exposed to massive doses of the cosmic rays. Doom battles Stark and Banner, now as Iron Man and Hulk and has them on the ropes when Richards and Company, having survived the cosmic rays, are now possessing strange powers and do the big save, teaming up with Iron Man and Hulk to send Doom packing. Stark contacts Fury and they do big cover up to prevent news of this near disaster from leaking to the masses. Stark and Banner then give medical tests to Reed and the others to make sure they’re not dangerous and radioactive and Fury offers them a deal as not exactly working for SHIELD, but to be a affiliated group under the Avengers Initiative. Reed accepts and they move into a new HQ over at the Baxter Building, forming their own group called the Fantastic Four. Rough around the edges, but it would work.

How about the X-Men?

This one wouldn’t be as hard really. There has been mention of a “school for mutants” up North a few times in the MCU already so it’s pretty obvious that Nick Fury at least knows of the X-Men, although maybe not to the extent of their abilities or just how powerful they truly are, but this one is simple. There are what seems to be mutants causing all sorts of problems. To get a handle on the situation, Fury or maybe one of the Avengers ( goes to the world’s leading authority on mutants for help, that being Professor Charles Xavier. While Xavier is happy to help, he keeps the knowledge of the X-Men secret, preferring to be known as only a teacher and mutant rights advocate. But something happens and shit hits the fan and the teachers and staff of Xavier’s school are forced to reveal themselves as the X-Men. It all comes out that they have been around for a while and have been careful to hide their identities with Professor X or Jean Grey using their altering the memories of any witnesses to their actions. They were there at the Battle of New York and at other different situations, helping with damage control, but no one remembers due to the actions of their telepaths. Instead of wiping the memories of Fury and whoever else is there, they decide this time to come out of the mutant closet and be part of the MCU, in the open. And there you go.

What characters would you like to see as part of Suicide Squad II?

Suicide Squad was one of my favorite comics back in the day and I have every issue of the first run. Some damn good stuff. As for the second Suicide Squad movie, to be written and directed by James Gunn, the characters I’d like to see as part of this movie would all be from part of the original Suicide Squad continuity. Deadshot is not returning since Will Smith has decided to no return so that leaves out a big part of the team. But luckily, Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang and Harley Quinn are all supposed to be coming back for another run. Dutchess, aka Lashina, was one of my favorites from the comics. Captain Cold would be great and if they could get Wentworth Miller, who plays the role on the CW in “Flash” and “Legends of Tomorrow” to come do the role, even better. I guess Diablo would be cool to have back and Katana too. And to round things out, how about Black Manta & Multiplex?

What characters would you like to see as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy III movie following Avengers: Endgame?

I’m actually cool with the Guardians as they are, but it would be fun to see Vance Astro and Heather Douglas, aka Moondragon, become part of the group. And even though he’s not part of the Guardian’s continuity, how about from the Defender’s comic, Isaac Christians, aka The Gargoyle. He has a history with Moondragon so it wouldn’t be hard to figure something out. And maybe an orange furred woman who is half human and half tiger. Yes, I’m speaking of Tigra. Since I’m just throwing names out there, Tigra would be a fun addition too.

Are you excited for Avengers: Endgame

Damn skippy I am. I am so ready for it that I’m even planning on going to the theater the week it comes out and I don’t do theaters or people all that often. Bring it on Thanos.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions or questions, feel free to drop me a line. Until the next time, stay safe and have a great one. Excelsior!
