Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
CM Punk, RVD, WWE HOF & More

Lots of questions from two new readers. Welcome to the Salt Palace. it’s time to do that Q&A about the world’s greatest sport. And away we go…

Craig from London, England writes:

1, Has there ever been any interest from WWE in Grado? He may not have the look or wrestling ability that others from TNA WWE has signed but he has tons of charisma and could fill a Santino type role on one of the shows.

Grado is a unique wrestler in many ways and I can see why you think he would be good in a comedy style character for WWE and I agree. He’s charismatic and I’m sure that WWE could find many ways to use him if they so desired. But that being said, the roster for WWE is pretty much already bloated as it is and finding a spot and prominent role in the company is hard for even the best of talents. I haven’t heard anything about Grado being looked at by WWE, but as Eric Young and James Ellsworth have proven, never say never. It could happen.

2, How do you think the locker room would react if CM Punk were to ever return be it part time, full time or to go in the hall of fame?

I think that the locker room would be mixed with those who get along with Punk being happy, those who don’t not liking it all that much and those that don’t know him taking a wait and see attitude. I think everyone would be professional regardless of it being part time or full time, as they are with Brock Lesnar now. So long as it draws fans and makes the company money, everyone would be professional regardless of their personal feelings towards or about Punk. As for the Hall of Fame, he deserves it so I can’t see why anyone would complain.

3, Going forward do you think ROH & New Japan should run a arena show over Wrestlemania weekend every year?

If they can draw an audience and make money, then they should do whatever is necessary and that includes running a show in an arena on Wrestlemania weekend.

Matt Hoover writes:

1 – Which talent leaving WCW hurt the promotion the most in hindsight, Big Bossman. X-Pac or The Giant? Had they stayed how would history be different?

Of the three, I think that X-Pac leaving had the biggest impact. He was dumped because Eric Bischoff wanted to send a message to Hall & Nash and by doing so, Eric unintentionally gave WWE and Vince McMahon a ton of ammo to use against them in the Monday Night Wars. It wasn’t so much who was fired, but how and why and that turned a lot of people against Bischoff and WCW that originally weren’t WWE fans quite so much. I don’t think anything in the end would have been different. WWE still would have won the Monday Night Wars, but I think it may have taken a bit longer for the ratings to turn as they did if Eric hadn’t given them such a gift of being an asswipe.

2 – How did the WCW and ECW talent exchange work? Cactus Jack, Arn Anderson both came over, how did this happen? I thought Heyman hated WCW.

Heyman may have hated WCW, but he liked and respected Cactus Jack and Arn Anderson. Jack was leaving WCW anyways to come to ECW and Arn had had his pay cut by Bill Watts and was only working for WCW on a part time basis. Heyman took advantage of this and brought Arn in for a night. And hired Foley full time. It has nothing to do with liking or hating WCW. It was Paul seeing an opportunity and taking advantage and at the same time, giving a hand to two guys he liked and respects.

3 – What is next for Dean Ambrose?

Probably a good vacation and then, when the time is right, showing up on AEW at one of their events and having a Jon Moxley moment.

4 – How is RVD able to work for Impact? I thought he wasnt medically cleared to wrestle.

RVD isn’t cleared to wrestle for WWE. They have strict guidelines and tests that a person has to be able to pass to be allowed to wrestle and take bumps. Impact though, just wants the talent to show up and wrestle and their physical health and well-being be damned.

5 – Any movement on Kaitlyn returning to WWE full time?

Not that I’ve heard. No.

6 – Whats next for Beth Phoenix? She sold like crazy for everyone at Wrestlemania, is another match in the future?

The way it seems for the time being, Beth is scheduled to work the upcoming European tour and looks to be working a full schedule including house shows. So yes, more matches are in her future.

7 – Wouldn’t Paige be the logical replacement for Corey Graves on Smackdown? That would give both shows a female announcer on the team? I thought she performed well in the role at Wrestlemania.

Paige did do very well at Wrestlemania and if she had not taken on the role of manager for Asuka and Kairi Sane, then perhaps a spot at the Smackdown announce table would be a good spot for her. But for now, she has a different role to fill for WWE.

8 – Will any of the following get into the WWE Hof? Sooner or Later?

A – Public Enemy

Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge were one of ECW’s top tag teams, but their run in the WWE was short and not too good and their stint in WCW was only slightly better. I think that the chances of them being put in the WWE Hall of Fame is slim to none. If a Legacy Class of all ECW alumni is put in, then maybe they could slide in as part of that group, but on their own merit, it isn’t going to happen.

B – nWo and if so what version.

The nWo will most certainly get a spot in the HOF at some point. The version should be just the three originals of Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan.

C – Sid Vicious

Sid is a multiple time WCW and WWE Champion. He’ll get the nod sooner rather than later.

D – The British Bulldogs.

This one is kind of iffy because they do deserve it and are one of the top tag teams in WWE history. But then when you factor in that both Davey Boy and Dynamite Kid have passed away, it gets a little more complicated. If Harry Smith, Davey’s son, ever comes back to the company, then I could see him trying to convince Vince to give his father and Dynamite the honor, but honestly, I don’t think we’ll ever get to see this historic tag team inducted. They may go in under the “Legacy” banner, but that’s probably the only way.

E – Demolition (Ax & Smash)

Ax and Smash were part of the Concussion lawsuit against WWE so that’s a big strike against them, but I’m going to say that yes, we will eventually see these two men get their just due and be inducted as part of the HOF. If Jeff Jarrett can be inducted and Jim Cornette can be brought in to induct the Rock & Roll Express and Warrior can be inducted, then I think that Eadie and Darsow can as well.

F – APA or just Ron Simmons or JBL

When Ron and JBL go into the HOF, it will be as the team of the APA. Both men deserve to go in for their singles career with Ron as the first black WCW World Champion and with JBL for, until recently, having the longest run as Smackdown World Champion in history. But despite that, you can’t think of one without thinking of the other. They are a team and brothers and belong together when they get inducted.

G – RVD.

So long as he’s working for Impact Wrestling, then no, but once his career winds down and he becomes a “former wrestler”, I think that WWE will be giving him a call and say “Welcome Home!”. RVD and the, pardon the pun, Impact he had in ECW and the WWE are definitely Hall of Fame worthy.

H – Eric Bischoff

Eric was the only man to beat Vince at his own game for 83 weeks and forced WWE and wrestling to change forever. He then was a big part of WWE for many years as the RAW General Manager and is on good terms with Vince and the entire McMahon family. He’s a lock for a spot in the HOF. It’s not if, but just when he’s ready.

I – Sable

I’m not a big Sable fan, but her impact and place in the history of WWE almost certainly assures her a spot in the Hall of Fame. I suspect that she’s probably happy to be out of the spotlight and out of the business for now, but I think when Brock gets the nod to go in (and he most definitely will), she’ll probably go in at the same time.

J – Victoria

Yes, she will and few ladies from the WWE at that time deserve the honor more than Lisa Marie Varon. She’s an amazing talent and character and even now, can go with the best of them. I don’t know when it will happen, but the sooner, the better.

K – Bella Twins or just Nikki or Brie?

Yes, they will go into the Hall of Fame at some point. The success of “Total Divas” and “Total Bella” and the money that brings to the WWE makes it almost certain. And their history in the ring (and husbands / ex-boyfriends) cement it. They’ll go in together though because like the APA, they’re a team and belong together.

And there you go. My thanks for reading and thanks to Matt & Craig for the questions. Any questions, comments or thoughts, drop me a line and tell me what you think, either here at the site or at my e-mail which is Doug28352@yahoo.com. And with that, I’m out of here. Have a great one and don’t forget to always support your local Indy wrestling companies. See you at the matches.
