Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Miss Elizabeth, Dominic Mysterio, Benoit & More
May 2, 2019
Salutations, good morning and all of that great stuff. Welcome to the Tossing Salt Ultimate Wrestling Q&A, where no question about the world’s greatest sport is too much and anything goes. This weekend is the Kentucky Derby and Cinco De Mayo. I think I need a good, stiff d… drink. Let’s do this…
How long do you think it will be before Dominic Mysterio is involved in a match with WWE?
Well, he’s coming out this past Monday on RAW with his father, Rey Mysterio, after Rey scored an upset win over U.S. Champion Samoa Joe so by WWE logic, that makes him the next target in Joe’s eyes to get revenge for said loss. Joe already has a history of going after family members of his opponents and it’s common knowledge that Dominic is being groomed at the Performance Center for an eventual WWE career. I’ll give it about two more weeks to build towards Money In The Bank and at that event, Dominic will either team with his father against Joe and a partner or else second his dad to the ring, get involved in the match and take a Samoa Joe sized ass-whooping, leading to a match the next night on RAW. So the debut of Dominic, it’s coming very soon.
How would you rank Nick Aldis as compared to past NWA World Champions?
I think that the current NWA World Champion, Nick Aldis is doing a fantastic job representing the company and helping to bring the National Wrestling Alliance, once the most powerful wrestling alliance in the world, back to prominence. Aldis has great matches and carries himself very well. While he’s no Harley Race (and who is?), he fits right in and belongs in that elite grouping of men who have held that gold domed belt, such as Dory Funk, Jack Brisco, Lou Thesz, Ric Flair, Dusty, etc.
Scott Norton versus Mark Henry in an arm wrestling contest – who wins?
This would be a great challenge for both men as the “World’s Strongest Man” faces Scott “Flash” Norton, another who can legit also make that claim. While I personally think that Henry might be the slightest bit stronger, Norton is a World Champion arm wrestler and has set records and won matches all over the world. Arm wrestling is his his world and his game and he’d definitely have the experience factor and edge in such a contest. If they didn’t break the table first, I think Norton would come out on top.
Do you think Miss Elizabeth will ever be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame?
Miss Elizabeth is certainly deserving and I don’t think that anyone can dispute that. If she had still been alive when her ex-husband Randy Savage was inducted, she probably would have already been inducted at the same time. But there’s the problem of her death and the fact that is was a drug overdose. That brings up some bad things that WWE is trying to stay away from. I think she will eventually be inducted and slide in under the radar, most likely as a “Legacy” inductee. That way, she gets the honor she so deserves, but WWE can control the narrative and keep the stories low key.
Vickie Guerrero says that Chris Benoit belongs in the WWE Hall of Fame. Agree or disagree?
I get where Vickie is coming from as she’s speaking up for the man she remembers and what he did, in the ring, during his career. And for strictly his ring work and wrestling ability, I would agree. But that’s not the whole big picture of things and what happened that weekend where he murdered his wife, Nancy and child Daniel, is there too and that negates anything that Benoit did in the ring. Benoit was a great wrestler, but there is no way ever that he’s going into any wrestling Hall of Fame. Not now, not ever, period.
Who do you think will eventually be the wrestler to to come out and confront Sami Zayn during his weekly rants against the fans?
From the rumors I’ve heard, it was originally going to be Luke Harper as the one who calls Zayn out. That would have been an interesting story and fun to see, but since Luke has had his contract frozen by WWE, that’s most likely out the window now. I expect most likely now that it will end up being whoever isn’t really doing anything in the back for a throwaway feud. I’d like to see it be Heath Slater or even Titus O’Neil getting a bit of a push and rub with Zayn, but at this point, I doubt even WWE and Vince are sure who it’s going to be.
According to Dana White, Brock Lesnar has said that he’s retiring from UFC. Thoughts?
It’s not really official until we hear it from Brock himself, but if this is the truth, then I suppose that he’s realized that time waits for no man and he’s not getting any younger. Better to stick with the big money shots and WWE rather than risk serious injury and compete in a business where truthfully, Brock has nothing left to prove. Plus all the jumping through hoops and walking the line that’s required for UFC, where taking cold medicine can get you fined and suspended, I guess it’s gotten a little old. Whatever Brock decides to do, be it one or two more UFC fights or just staying with WWE or retiring from it all and going home to the farm, I wish him the best. He’s earned the right to call his own shots and more power to him for that.
Why do 205 Live and NXT have General Managers (Drake Maverick and William Regal), but RAW and Smackdown do not?
In the case of NXT, I think it’s because Regal does such an amazing job that no one wants to rock the boat and step into those shoes. And with 205 Live, I think it’s more of an afterthought and none of the McMahon’s want to take on the responsibility. All Vince and the McMahon’s are focused on mainly are RAW and Smackdown and doing their thing there. I personally wish that less is more and we’d go back to having General Managers on both shows so instead of having Shane work both sides as an authority figure and a performer and instead of Vince having to get Superman Punched by Roman, we’d have a less is more and only see the McMahon’s when it’s truly a big reason and event and not for the trivial day to day stuff. The less McMahon, the better.
Any thoughts on Goldberg, Brock Lesnar and Undertaker all being announced for the upcoming Saudi Arabia event in June?
It’s WWE pulling out all the big guns for their big Saudi Arabia show where they get paid crazy money to put on the strongest show possible. I also expect that we’ll see The Big Show and Mark Henry both pulled from the mothballs as well for this event and hell, maybe even Kane if he can take a break from his day job. In terms of the money it brings the WWE, this event is as big as Wrestlemania in many ways and WWE will get whoever they can and make it an event to remember. And that’s exactly what they should do.
And there you go. My thanks for reading and thanks to everyone who sent me some questions. If you have a question you’d like answered or any thoughts or comments you’d like to share, drop me a line. Let’s talk. And with that, I’m out of here. Have a great one and don’t forget to support your local Indy wrestling companies. I’ll see you at the matches.
