Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE Extreme Rules
Thoughts & Predictions
July 14, 2019
Tonight, coming from a territory very familiar with the term “extreme”, the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, PA, is WWE Extreme Rules. It’s live on the usual PPV providers and of course, streaming live on the WWE Network. Ten matches have been announced and there’s still one more I keep hearing rumors about so this will definitely be a stacked show. And as we’ve already done for this weekend with the EVOLVE 10th Anniversary show and of course, the AEW Fight For The Fallen event, this means more predictions and thoughts. So sit back and prepare to analyze each and every announced match and do that Psychic Friends thing. It’s time to get Extreme and it all begins right now.
The Undertaker & Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre – No Holds Barred match.
This should be a fun match except for two small things. Shane and The Undertaker. Actually, I have no problem with Taker being here and wrestling and if he’s going to be in a match, a tag match with no rules so they can use plenty of smoke and mirrors and keep his in-ring time to a minimum is the way to go. Given that great promo this past week by “Stone Cold” Kevin Owens, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him find a way to get involved and thus, hopefully put Shane out of action or else set up Shane’s final match for SummerSlam. So long as Roman and Drew carry most of the action, we should have some wild & crazy times and Drew, who should be wrestling for the Universal Championship or some other major title, ends up taking the pin and the loss for his team.
Winners: The Undertaker and Roman Reigns
WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins & Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Baron Corbin & Lacey Evans in an Extreme Rules match. Both Championships on the line.
This angle sucks. I actually like Baron Corbin, but he does not need to be the Universal Champion. But on the other hand, I’m just about “The Man’ed” out and am tired of Becky. And Lacey is a fun heel to watch so I’d have no problem at all if Lacey won her title. I think we’ll see some classic extreme craziness and shenanigans going on. And though I hate the idea for even a moment, we’ll see some new champions at the end of the night as a miscue between Becky and Seth ends up in distraction and pin as Becky tastes a “Woman’s Right” and Lacey steals one for her team.
Winners and NEW Universal and RAW Women’s Champions: Baron Corbin & Lacey Evans
And now, for a bonus twist. The match is over and Baron and Lacey are celebrating their wins. And Seth can’t handle it and lays out Baron in revenge. And then the music hits. Here comes “The Beast” Brock Lesnar and that Money In The Bank contract. It’s on.
WWE Universal Champion Baron Corbin versus Mr. Money In The Bank Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman
Brock hits a couple of F-5’s and maybe a suplex for good measure. Pin and new champion.
Winner and NEW WWE Universal Champion: Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman
WWE Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Samoa Joe.
From all reports I keep reading, Kofi is banged up and hurting and will be wrestling, but he’s not 100%. With Joe, we’ll still get a good match, but Joe may have to help carry Kofi a bit. So does WWE finally pull the trigger and give Joe that WWE title run he’s long overdue and well deserving of or do they hold off and carry on in same old / same old motion as they have. I think I’d do an “attack in the back” angle on Kofi at the start of the show so he’s suspect for being able to wrestle the entire event. Through willpower and determination, Kofi makes it to his match, but the earlier attack plus the nagging injuries take their toll and Kofi fights, but in the end, Joe is too much and takes the win and title. Works for me.
Winner and NEW WWE Champion: Samoa Joe
WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross – Handicap match.
So Nikki wins and her and Alexa are co-champions or does Alexa still get the title because she was the one signed for a title match or does Nikki become the champ even though she added herself to the match. And where and when does Sasha Banks fit into the picture because Nikki told Bayley that she “needs to find a friend” earlier this week. All of this thinking makes my head hurt. Nikki and Alexa get their signals crossed and Bayley takes advantage to retain. And then we get post-match attack by Alexa and Nikki and Sasha comes out to make the save.
Winner and STILL Smackdown Women’s Champion: Bayley
WWE United States Champion Ricochet vs. AJ Styles.
It’s too soon to take that U.S. title off of Ricochet, but AJ just turned heel and is back together with Gallows and Anderson, the Club, so it makes sense to give him the win and the title here. We’re going to have a great match. Of that, I have no doubt, but I think that we’ll see The Good Brothers get a few shots in. And I think that we’ll see a new champion crowned, thus giving Ricochet a chance to live up to his name and see how well he can bounce back at SummerSlam. AJ is walking out with the gold.
Winner and NEW United States Cahmpion: AJ Styles
WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan & Rowan vs. New Day’s Big E & Xavier Woods vs. Heavy Machinery.
Is this an elimination style match or simply one-fall to a finish? I ask because every match as of late on RAW or Smackdown has been either elimination or 2 out of 3 falls. Probably just the traditional one fall match and if that’s the case, I think since they’re annoying to me and I don’t find them entertaining at all, we’ll see Heavy Machinery come out on top as the new champs by pinning the New Day. Bryan and Rowan don’t lose the match, but lose the belts and then can chase the titles while the New Day move over to help their brother Kofi with his issues and situation.
Winners and NEW Smackdown Tag Team Champions: Heavy Machinery
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak vs. Tony Nese.
Drew lost last night at EVOLVE to the challenge of his “Bro” Matt Riddle so I don’t think that he’s ready to take two losses in a row, especially with the title belt on the line here in Philly. I can see Nese dominating most of the match and let’s be honest, these two men have had some amazing matches and this one should be excellent as well. But I want to see more Gulak versus Riddle and maybe even with a title on the line. Gulak takes a beating, but in the end, also takes the win and retains.
Winner and STILL WWE Cruiserweight Champion: Drew Gulak
Aleister Black vs. Cesaro.
This should be another top notch match and one for the ages, but the outcome is easy to predict. It’s been all about Black in the build and he needs to win here or else, why? Look for a stiff slobber-knocker of a match, but Black has the Swiss Superman’s kryptonite and should walk out with a big win.
Winner: Aleister Black
Braun Strowman vs Bobby Lashley – Last Man Standing match.
And now for my official “Bathroom Break” match with two men who I have totally lost all interest and faith in. Lashey is looking much better now than he has in a while, but I cringe when he talks and I just don’t care for him. And Braun is damaged goods and just needs to go away for a while and get repackaged or something. I don’t care one way or the other, but I think there is more upside right now with Lashley, especially with Heyman taking over the booking so I’ll go with him to take the win after Braun tries for something big and crashes and burns.
Winner: Bobby Lashley
WWE Raw Tag Team Champions The Revival vs. The Usos.
The Usos don’t need to win here. The Revival are the champs, but they also need to get a big win here and get their credibility jacked up a bit. It’s an easy call for me. The Usos look great, but the champs steal it at the end and retain.
Winners and STILL RAW Tag Team Champions: The Revival
WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The Iiconics versus The Kabuki Warriors w/ Paige
And this one is not offical as of yet, but I’ve heard so much talk and anticipation and if it doesn’t appear on the PPV, then I expect we’ll see it Tuesday night on Smackdown Live. Asuka is amazing and needs to be wearing some gold. And when and if this match happens, then she will. The Iiconics are good performers, but they’re not Asuka and Sane and they don’t have Paige in their corner. The legendary wrestler Kabuki would be proud of his two namesakes and will be proud when they walk out with those tag team titles.
Winners and NEW Women’s Tag Team Champions: The Kabuki Warriors w/ Paige
And I guess that covers it. Tonight on the WWE Network, it’s WWE Extreme Rules and as Freddie Miller used to say on WTBS, “Be there!”. So those are my predictions. What are yours? Let me know in the comments. Any questions, thoughts or comments about this or anything else, please drop me a line. Thank you for reading and now, I’m down and gone. Have a great one and I’ll see you at the matches.
