Ultimate Wrestling Q&A (Extended Edition): The Ascension, Madusa, GLOW in the HOF and More…

Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A (Extended Edition)
The Ascension, Madusa, GLOW & More
August 24, 2019

It’s time to tackle some more of this backlog and clean out the mailbox. Some of these have been sitting around for a while. My apologies for that. And thanks to Matt, Lauren and Jay Z. for the questions. Now it’s time for some answers. It’s a long one so hold on to your hats (does anyone even still wear hats?) and away we go…

Thoughts on Rowdy Roddy Piper?

In what manner? Piper was a true legend and icon and one of the main reasons that WWE is the powerhouse that it is today. He was the ultimate bad guy and could wrestle, cut great promos or at least interesting ones and was a groundbreaker in many ways for what wrestling is today. I think he was better in the Crockett / Georgia territories than when he went to the WWF, but he made his mark, he made history and created a legacy than few can ever hope to come close to. A great wrestler and character.

Besides Ric Flair and Harley Race, who was, in your opinion, the greatest NWA World Champion of all time?

Lou Thesz is the logical choice, but to be honest, he was before my time. I’m old, but not that old. I think I’ll go with Dan “The Beast” Severn. He kept the NWA and NWA Championship alive and strong in a time when the NWA was all, but dead. He was the life-support for the NWA and a credible and strong champion when they needed one. So Severn is my pick.

Ric Flair’s figure four leglock or Paul Jones Indian Deathlock – which is the better finisher?

When Paul locked in that Indian Deathlock, the match was all but over and it was a devastating move, but let’s be serious here. How many world championship titles did that move bring Jones? Flair and his “figure four” win this one.

The Ascension or the Colons – which team has been buried more in the WWE?

Both teams seem to have found a permanent home in Catering eating chicken salad, but think the burial of The Colons has been more lasting. The Ascension could be saved with a gimmick tweaking and maybe a new alliance with a certain Fiend, but Primo and Epico, while both amazing talents, have to deal with the management dislike of their fellow “Cool Guy”, Carlito. Think WWE doesn’t hold a grudge? Look at how the Colons and their careers have been handled and think again.

Should Rey Mysterio retire?

In my opinion, I think Rey should have retired years ago. He’s just a shadow of himself and can’t do half of what he once did. I respect Rey, but I’ve never been a big fan. WWE should never have brought him back and now, should give him a good send-off and let him say good-bye. Retire already and be done with it.

The NWA has announced plans for a weekly television series. Good idea?

If they can get a good spot and time on TV and bring in fans / make money and promote the company, it’s definitely a good idea.

5 greatest wrestling characters of all time?

Not wrestlers in the ring, but characters who stand out and are larger than life. My quick picks would be Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, The Hurricane, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mr. McMahon.

If Madusa (Alundra Blayze) was to decide to wrestle one more match, who should she be matched again?

Based on their recent Twitter back and forth, the easy answer is Lacey Evans. A match against Charlotte Flair could be pretty fun to see as well.

Should the original GLOW Girls be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame?

It would be cool to see and with the current success of GLOW on Netflix, it makes sense, but it would be a mess trying to get everyone who’s still around together and deciding who would induct, who would accept, etc. Maybe a “Legacy Induction” someday, but on the main stage, I can’t see it happening.

The Fabulous Freebirds versus The New Day – who wins?

If you’re in the south like Atlanta or Texas, then it’s Freebird country and they win. If you’re in a WWE ring, it’s the New Day. Actually, whoever the promoter wants to win to keep things interesting and help the matches and program continue.

Do you think that No Way Jose will ever win championship gold in the WWE?

Maybe the 24/7 title at some point for a few minutes, but so far as major gold goes, I would say no way, Jose.

Now that Lance Storm is closing his Wrestling Academy, should he go work at WWE at the Performance Center?

If that’s what he wants to do, WWE would be glad to have him and he would be a great addition to the roster. Right now, Storm is working for Impact Wrestling as a producer and agent so I guess that’s where his interests lie at the moment.

Thoughts on Superstar Billy Graham?

A great talker to be sure, but I never really got into the man much or his character. I only really know him from his medical issues and his bitter old man complaints against the WWE and everything else under the sun. For his time and era, he was a ground-breaker. But not really all that to me.

Memories of Johnny Weaver?

A great wrestler in his time who turned into an interesting announcer for his later years with Crockett. I once watched he and Gene Anderson in a singles match live and though both were obviously past their prime and “boring” by today’s standards, it was a great match and the crowd was hanging on every move. Truly the original “Dean of Professional Wrestling” and a Hall of Fame worthy legend.

Should wrestling bring back the Scaffold Matches?

Best wrestler so far of 2019?

It’s hard to argue with the success of Seth Rollins, but I’ll have to go with Orange Cassidy. A truly lethal and dangerous walking arsenal of kick-assery.

Thoughts on Tully Blanchard coming to AEW as Shawn Spears advisor?

A good move by the AEW powers-that-be to give a little credibility to their company and it should work major well as a bonus for Spears as well. Tully is a legend and while not the flashiest guy around, he’s a man that will draw the old school crowd and make them take notice. Plus, he’s an original Horseman. Now, how about bringing in Baby Doll to help complete the package.

If Tully and Spears were forming a new Horsemen faction in AEW, who should be in it?

Whoever they want, but they can’t call it The Horsemen. If there is no Flair or Anderson, it’s not the Horsemen. But a strong faction with Spears and his mentor, Blanchard, as the center pieces. That could be mighty interesting to see.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. And if you have any thoughts, comments or questions, just drop me a line. Until the next time, take care and stay awesome. I loves ya, my Peeps.
