AEW All Out PPV
Thoughts & Predictions
August 29, 2019
Coming up on Saturday night, live from Chicago, is the second major pay-per-view extravaganza from the powers that are All Elite Wrestling. The “Buy-In” show starts at 7:00pm and the main show starts at 8:00. It’s the last big event before AEW debuts on TNT and goes weekly in their challenge to the WWE and the official start of the “Wednesday Night Wars”. It’s available for viewing on B/R Live and all major PPV providers.
Let’s break out the crystal balls and the tarot cards and the Sister Cleo drag outfit because it’s time to get all psychic and fortune telling around here. Let’s look at the announced matches and decide who wins, who loses and what the talk of the town will be in Chi-Town. Let’s do this…
Chris Jericho vs. Hangman Adam Page for the AEW World Championship
This is the main event and a match to decide who will the man leading the way as AEW debuts on October 2 on TNT, as the new AEW World Champion. Do you go with the familiar face and the man who will attract the casual fans and has the credibility (and calls people stupid idiots on a regular basis – I wonder if he still has the list?) – Chris Jericho or the darling of the Indy’s, the future of wrestling, Hangman Adam Page? Arguments can be made for each man to walk out as the first ever AEW Champion and there are reasons against each man as well. Common sense says that the man who was the first ever undisputed WWE Champion, Jericho, should be the man here, but my gut says go with the swerve and have a surprise and then a rematch on the debut show. The first champ and winner will be… Adam Page.
Winner and NEW AEW Champion: Adam Page
Kenny Omega vs. Pac
Pac, once known as Neville in the WWE, is replacing Jon Moxley, aka Dean Ambrose, in this match since Moxley is dealing with a MRSA infection. That’s a bad deal for Moxley and I wish him a speedy recovery and return to the ring soon. But now, it’s Pac versus Omega. There are arguments that can made for each man to win and reasons why each shouldn’t. If Omega wins, he’s just beating a WWE Cruiserweight and so what and if Pac wins, then Omega was beaten by a Cruiserweight. Big deal. I kind of expect these two men to have a five-star match and steal the show. When that final bell rings, the fans aren’t going to care who wins and both men will get a big ovation from the live crowd. But we must have a winner. I think I’ll go with Pac on this one.
The Lucha Bros vs. The Young Bucks in a ladder match for the AAA World Tag Team Championships
These men have switched the AAA Tag Team titles back and forth a couple of times and have had some amazing matches in the process and there is no reason to think this match won’t be another great one for the ages. The Bucks have an established reputation and it doesn’t matter if they win or lose so long as the match is off the charts. Which team currently has the belts? The Bucks are the current AAA Champions so I smell title change and new champions when the match ends.
Winner and NEW AAA World Tag Team Champions: The Lucha Bros.
Cody vs. Shawn Spears w/ Tully Blanchard
The son of the American Dream taking on a talent managed by his Dad’s former rival. All we need is Baby Doll to make this event a “Perfect 10”. Oh wait, Spears’ gimmick in WWE was the “Perfect 10” and Tully’s valet when he was an active wrestler was a “Perfect 10”. I sense an alliance and faction in the near future, especially if Cody’s wife, Brandi, gets involved. This should be a fun match and it should just set the bar for a long and exciting rivalry for both men. I look for Cody to do well, but a little outside cheating from Tully and Spears takes home a big win.
Winner: Shawn Spears
Darby Allin vs. Jimmy Havoc vs. Joey Janela
I’m not as familiar with these three as I should be, but I’ll go with Janela since he’s the I know the best and have seen the most of. No other reason needed.
Winner: Joey Janela
Best Friends vs. The Dark Order
The Best Friends, Chuck Taylor and Beretta, also known as Trent, versus The Dark Order, Evil Uno & Stu Grayson. This should be another fun match to watch as two fast-paced and contrasting styles go head to head. I remember Beretta from his WWE days and he was an impressive young hombre. The other guys, I’m not as familiar with, but I did watch a few matches on YouTube to see what they had to offer. I have to go with the Best Friends here. All of these men have a big future, but nothing is bigger than a strong friendship. So there you go.
Winners: The Best Friends
Riho vs. Hikaru Shida
These women are bad-ass and kick-ass to the max. I remember seeing Riho on a few matches online and she’s the real deal to be sure. Shidu is impressive too, but I gotta go with Riho here.
Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt vs. SoCal Uncensored
As good as SoCal Uncensored is, this one is all about Stunt, Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy. Apart from Orange Cassidy, the team of a “Boy & His Dinosaur” are my favorite performers currently in AEW and they are headed straight to the top of the ladder. And it all begins right here.
Winners: Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt
21-woman Casino Battle Royale
If Amazing Kong is in it, she wins. Otherwise, Roddy Piper’s daughter is the big favorite, but then again, she’s not coming back and has signed a deal with David MacLane and WOW. This would be much easier if we knew who all the participants were. Hell, I’ll go with my original pick.
Winner: Amazing Kong
Private Party vs. Angelico and Jack Evans
Marq Quen & Isiah Kennedy, the team known as Private Party, made their big AEW debut at Fyter Fest and turned a lot of heads and impressed a lot of people. That got them a contract and now that they’ve made it to the big dance, it’s time to prove themselves against the team of Jack Evans & Angelico. They have their work cut out for them and this should be a good match. It’s the coming out for the Private Party and they’re going to celebrate all night long. I can’t see any reason for them to lose here.
Winners: Private Party
And that’s it. Plus CM Punk will be in the neighborhood so will he make an appearance? We’ll have to wait and see, but if I was AEW and Punk was signed, I’d have him crash the last match and nail both Page and Jericho with some GTS’s and make the match for the title be a no-contest to be determined at the first AEW TV show and as a three-way dance. But like I said, we’ll see what happens.
Any thoughts, comments or questions, drop me a line and let’s chat. Thanks for reading. And until the next time, I’m out of here. Have a great one and I’ll see you at the matches.
