Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Titles, Balor Heel Turn, Couples & More
October 2, 2019
I’m watching NXT with their two hour USA Network debut with one eye and eagerly awaiting the debut of AEW at 10:00pm on TNT as I write this so if I appear distracted, no one should pay it any mind. But then again, I’m almost always distracted. I can’t help it. I am who I am. Look at the tree blowing in the wind outside. I wish it was me and Danny. Oops! My bad! Ignore that comment. I just made a trip up the road to take care of some bid’ness and say this guy. I don’t like him at all, but I do have feelings for him even though he’s a total piece of shit. Much like the fans and Brock Lesnar. Sorry to all the Brock supporters, but I had to get this back to wrestling somehow. It’s time to do the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Questions are from the man known as “Jay – CT” and a new face, Chris Zunis. And these questions have been waiting in the locker room to come out and be answered so let’s can the chit chat and away we go…
1.) What’s the latest on Sasha Banks status with WWE?
She is back in action and has been for several weeks. She’s wrestling “The Man” Becky Lynch this upcoming weekend at Hell In A Cell for the RAW Women’s Championship in a Hell In A Cell cage match.
2.) Have you seen any improvement since Heyman/Bischoff were given their new roles?
RAW seems to have improved a bit with less talking, more focus on some of the lesser characters on the roster and more Bray Wyatt and the Fiend. I haven’t been able to watch Smackdown in several weeks due to work and other responsibilities so I have to rely on recaps and YouTube for the highlights. It seems to have picked up the pace a bit as well and most reports indicate that it’s more tight and precise than ever, but that is heresay and I won’t be able to verify myself until hopefully this upcoming Friday night when Smackdown debuts on Fox.
3.) And do you think we could see more improvement over time if they are each given more control (and fewer changes from Vince)?
I think more Heyman and Bischoff and less total Vince nitpicking is always a good thing.
4.) Do you think couples (i.e. Becky/Rollins) enjoy being acknowledged on screen as real life couples or would they prefer to keep it in their private life?
I think it depends upon the couples, but for the most part, I think I would prefer to to keep my private life private and any relationship I’m in as private as possible as well.
5.) Do you think, for their age, Flair and Hogan actually look better than some guys 10 and even 20 years younger than them?
Flair is starting to look scary and a bit deranged at times when he cuts a promo. Hogan looks the same as he has for the past ten years. I think age and Father Time is catching up with them and especially the “Nature Boy” is starting to show his age. So looking younger than the rest of the roster? I don’t see it.
6.) If Rollins doesn’t beat Brock for the title who do you think will?
Rollins beat Brock and won the title and Brock has moved on to challenge Kofi over at Smackdown Live for the WWE Championship so your question is irrelevant.
7.) And are you surprised Kofi lasted longer as champ than Rollins did?
Both men are still champs as of this writing so again, this question makes no sense. I am surprised that Kofi has remained champ for so long though and I would have expected someone, most likely Brock this coming Friday night, to take that title from him soon enough.
8.) Which title right now in WWE has the least amount of meaning?
It could be the Women’s Tag Team Title, the Intercontinental Championship or Zack Ryder’s “Internet Championship”. Wait, that title isn’t recognized as official, so forget that answer. But Shinsuke as the Intercontinental Champion has been totally forgettable and Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross and their tag team titles are not far behind.
9.) And which one has the most meaning?
Either the WWE or Universal Championship, followed by the most watched (and fun) title in WWE, the 24/7 Championship, currently held by the lovely Carmella.
10.) Does a Balor or Styles heel turn feel more needed/more unnecessary?
Balor has been MIA so we don’t know what he’s going to do next, but a heel turn for him would be a bad idea in my opinion and not make any sense. AJ Styles heel turn, to join up with his friends in “The OC” does make sense and AJ seems to be enjoying this run and playing it up to the max. I have no problem with that turn.
Do you think Velveteen Dream has the potential to be the generational star the wrestling business has been waiting for?
The man is good and has charisma, talent and is definitely must-see. I don’t know if he’s “the one”, but he’s going to be a big name and a big star for NXT and WWE for many years to come. Of that, I have no doubt.
Did you like what you saw from NXT’s television debut?
I did like it and I like what I’m watching, even as I’m typing this, even more. NXT is damn good and some great wrestling action that all fans should try and watch.
Why do you think Omega said the things that he said about NXT? Was he working? Is he turning heel? Isn’t it a bad idea to put down guys you might want to sign someday?
I’m thinking (hoping) that Omega was working and didn’t think it all through before he spoke against the NXT roster. I’m not sure if he’s a heel or a face in AEW, but he is a member of AEW management and taking shots at the wrestlers, that was just plain dumb. I know a lot of fans that might have been willing to give AEW a chance, but were turned off by Omega’s comments and are now saying that they won’t be watching AEW when it debuts later tonight. Speaking without thinking is never a smart thing, but that’s exactly what Omega did. Hopefully, it won’t end up biting AEW in the ass as a result.
What do you want to see out of AEW on week 1 of TV?
Great matches, high energy, a surprise or two and a reason to come back next week for more.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Questions, comments and any other thoughts and ideas are welcome always. Now, it’s time to get back to NXT and some great wrestling on USA. Take care and have a great one and I’ll see you at the matches. Take care.
