Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE Royal Rumble 2020
Thoughts & Predictions
January 25, 2020
Coming up on Sunday, live on the WWE Network, is the WWE Royal Rumble. It’s the start of the official “Road To Wrestlemania” and one of WWE’s biggest shows of the year. Let’s make a few predictions.
30 Man Royal Rumble. Announced as completing: WWE Champion Brock Lesnar (entering at #1), Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston, Big E, Rey Mysterio, Ricochet, Erick Rowan, Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, Elias, Dolph Ziggler, Heavy Machinery, Rusev, Aleister Black, Bobby Lashley, Buddy Murphy, Braun Strowman, Shinsuke Nakamura, Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens. Six competitors to be named.
Let’s make one thing perfectly clear. Brock Lesnar will NOT win the Rumble. I expect someone, probably Drew McIntyre, to take Brock out. Brock will then get pissed, take out Drew and that’s a match for Mania. But we still have the Rumble and who gets to challenge for a title at Mania? CM Punk likes Keith Lee and that’s a good pick, but I want someone from the main roster. How about Edge? How about CM Punk? How about Cena? All sound good, but I don’t think so. I think I’ll go with Aleister Black. Black versus The Fiend at Mania. Works for me.
Winner: Aleister Black
30 Woman Royal Rumble – Charlotte Flair, Nikki Cross, Alexa Bliss, Sarah Logan, Natalya announced as competing. 25 competitors to be named.
What member of the Women’s Division is ready to step up and be a star? I expect we’ll see the return of Nia Jax and Naomi and plenty of NXT talent showing up. My personal favorite would be to see Carmella make her move back into the main event picture and take home the big win. That would be so cool, but alas, I can’t see it happening. Shayna Baszler is the lady who takes the big win here.
Winner: Shayna Baszler
WWE Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Asuka
Will “The Man” be able to finally get past the Empress of Tomorrow? This will probably be the stiffest and most brutal match of the evening. It’s also the match I want most to see aside from the actual Rumble matches. I would love to see Asuka take that win and take that title but now is not the time. I’m expecting to see a no-contest or DQ finish for this one. This feud will continue. We’ll give Asuka a DQ win when Becky gets out of control.
Winner by DQ: Asuka (Becky retains her title.)
WWE Universal Champion Bray Wyatt vs. Daniel Bryan in a strap match
Please no red lighting for the ring. Bryan and Bray are so good together and this should be a good match if the two men are allowed to just wrestle. It’s an interesting stipulation to have a strap match. It’s hard to predict a winner here, but I have a theory. I think that Bray will have a little help at the end of the match. I bo-lieve that someone who has been MIA for a while has let him in and will be the determining factor. For Daniel Bryan, he will not hear “Yes! Yes! Yes!” at the end of the night, but instead “No! No! No!” Look for The Fiend to win and retain his title belt.
Winner and STILL WWE Universal Champion: “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt
Roman Reigns vs. Baron Corbin – Falls Count Anywhere match
No way that Roman loses here… unless we see a heel turn from some family members. But that might be waiting for a few weeks leading up to Mania and a big-time family reunion. Corbin is a great heel and I expect he’ll get in a few shots and look good. Roman is going to walk out with a win though. No doubt about that. Baron will probably end up eating dog food too.
Winner: Roman Reigns
WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley vs. Lacey Evans.
I feel a title change will be happening here Bayley has had her run as the champ, but it’s time to see someone new and for Lacey to show us what she can do. Bayley will feel the power of the Women’s Right.
Winner and NEW Smackdown Women’s Champion: Lacey Evans
WWE United States Champion Andrade (with Zelina Vega) vs. Humberto Carrillo.
Andrade has been on a tear for a while now and is looking great. This is his time and while Carillo is getting a big push and will come out of this match looking like a million bucks, Andrade will both walk in and walk out of the Rumble still as the reigning United States Champion.
Winner and still WWE United States Champion: Andrade
Shorty G vs. Sheamus.
Welcome back to WWE Sheamus. He’s tough as nails and it’s good to see the Pale Warrior back in that ring. By all rights, Sheamus should make quick work of Chad Gable and end this match quickly. But WWE is so keen on Gable right now and everyone loves a good underdog story. A loss won’t hurt Sheamus one bit and Shorty G, and by the way, I hate that name, can’t afford too many losses. So arguments can be made for either to win. I think we’ll see a Shorty G upset win. Works for me.
Winner: Shorty G
I expect that after Smackdown airs tonight, some more matches will be announced for the Kickoff Show and maybe even for the big event and if they do, I’ll update this post. But until then, that’s all for now. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts or questions, please feel free and drop me a line. I’ll see you folks later. Take care.
