Tossing Salt Presents:
5 Questions – Religion
February 14, 2020
I have roughly 15 minutes to spare before I have to finish getting ready for work. That seems like just enough time to tackle these “5 Questions” that have been sitting here in my inbox for several weeks, courtesy of my friend Brian. Let’s do this.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
1. Are you a religious person and do you believe in God?
I am not religious, but I am spiritual to a point. I do believe in a higher power and if God is what we call it, then God it is. I try to be respectful of others beliefs and yes, I do pray daily. I just don’t do well with labels or names. It just is.
2. What is the “right religion” if any?
I can’t say for sure. I have what I believe and it’s what’s right for me. But others believe differently and that’s what is best for them and it’s not my place to judge or critque. The best answer for this comes from the movie “Dogma” and I’m paraphrasing, but goes something like, “It’s not what you believe, but that you do believe!”. Chris Rock, playing the Disciple Rufus said it better, but you get the point. That’s a great movie by the way so if you can check it out sometime, do so. You’ll enjoy it.
3. The gods and beings of ancient myths – were they real?
I personally don’t think so, but the people of those times certainly thought so and who am I to say they’re wrong. I wasn’t there so I can’t say.
4. Are souls real and what happens to your soul after your body dies?
I think they are and as to what happens, I think it’s connected to what you believe and think. Some think that souls go to Heaven or Hell. Some think they watch over us and protect us. Some think that they come back reborn in other bodies and new lives and beginnings. Everyone has a different path in life and a role to play and I think that when this life is over, we all have different paths to continue so what happens to my soul and what happens to yours, there is no set and definite ending. Only a new beginning and the journey continues.
5. Do you believe in ghosts, spirits, angels and the supernatural?
I think that there are things, both good and bad, that can’t be explained through logical and ordinary means and the existance of these beings and things, operating just outside our realm of existence, makes as much sense as anything. So I guess my answer would be yes.
And now, sixteen minutes after I started, I am through. Time to get ready for work. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts and any questions, plese feel free to drop me a line here at the site or at my e-mail of Doug28352@yahoo.com. Again, Happy Valentines Day. Take care.
