Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE NXT Takeover: Portland
Thoughts & Predictions
February 16, 2020
Tomorrow on the WWE Network, it’s the WWE and NXT with Takeover: Portland. It looks to be an amazing show and definitely appears to be a must-see event. And of course, that means it’s time to do a few predictions. Let’s do this…
WWE NXT Champion Adam Cole vs. Tommaso Ciampa.
This match can go either way and it won’t be a shocker or upset. Cole is such a talented star and has done a great job defending the NXT Championship as part of the Undisputed Era, by any means possible. And Ciampa, that’s the title he never lost and he wants Goldy back. So does Ciampa go all out and get that title back or does Cole do whatever it takes to cheat the odds and keep that gold belt firmly in his grasp. I think that we will NOT see a title change here. Look for some sneaky shenanigans and dubious moves and when the final bell rings, the champion will remain champion and keep the Age of Cole alive. And then, come Wrestlemania weekend, we get a rematch, a few stipulations and Ciampa’s time will finally come. It just won’t be in Portland.
Winner and STILL Champion: Adam Cole
Johnny Gargano vs Finn Balor.
It’s time for the big grudge match and this should be one helluva kick-ass match. Balor is a true demon, inside and out, and has no emotions, mercy or love for anyone. And Johnny is a man of emotion and passion and his heart controls his actions. Will that be enough to take home a victory against the Demon? This can go either way and a loss isn’t going to hurt Gargano at all. I’m not sure that the same can be said for Balor. I think Finn will take home the victory and do that crawl to the pay window.
Winner: Finn Balor
WWE NXT Champion Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair.
Normally, this match could go either way as both women are exceptional talents, but this is not a normal match and there’s a factor that needs to be figured in and that would be Charlotte Flair. Bianca is damn good, but the money match on everyone’s mind is Rhea versus Charlotte and if the belt switches here, that match is out the window. I expect we’ll see a good match and we may even see Ms. Flair get involved. When the smoke clears, I don’t see a title change happening. Look for Rhea to find a way and retain.
Winner and STILL WWE NXT Women’s Champion: Rhea Ripley
WWE NXT Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Era vs. Dusty Tag Classic 2020 winners Pete Dunne & Matt Riddle.
Pete Dunne and Matt Riddle are really fun to watch and have caught fire with the fans. Riddle may have heat with Vince and Brock Lesnar, but Triple H loves the bro-man and the tag team specialists that won the 2020 Dusty Tag Classic winners and they are money waiting to happen. I’m calling a title switch here.
Winners and NEW NXT Tag Team Champions: Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne
WWE NXT North American Champion Keith Lee vs. Dominik Dijakovic.
I don’t see a title change happening here. Lee is still relatively new as the North American Champion and it’s too soon to switch the belt. Dijakovik is an exceptional performer and so long as he has a strong match with Lee, something I absolutely expect, he’ll come out as strong as ever and still looking great, just not with a championship title belt around his waist.
Winner and STILL WWE NXT North American Champion: Keith Lee
Tegan Nox vs. Dakota Kai – Street Fight.
The build for this has been great and I am intrigued as I don’t recall ever seeing a true “Street Fight” match between two women. These two women have gone above and beyond in getting here and I think there is still way more to be done and a ways to go. I think that the blow-off should be on Wrestlemania weekend and for that to happen, I’d give Tai the win through devious and dastardly means. Nox will have to wait for her revenge because Kai is taking this one to the bank.
Winner: Dakota Kai
And there you go. Am I right? Am I wrong? Tell me who you think the winners and losers will be in Portland come Sunday night. Comments, questions and any other thoughts are welcome and appreciated. And with that, I’m like the Civil War. I’m history. Thanks for reading. Take care and stay safe and I’ll see you at the matches.
