Tossing Salt Presents:
Transgenders, Iron Fist vs Daredevil, Muffins & More
February 16, 2020
My loyal reader and long time, close personal friend that I’ve never actually met, The Cheese, sent me a few more questions on a many different subjects. She sent me five of them to be exact so of course, that means a Sunday morning edition of “5 Questions”. Let’s do this…
I saw where you recently posted a video of Dolly Parton and Cher singing together. That reminded me of the old VH1 series, “Divas” and the concerts featuring women performers (and Elton John). If you were going to put together a VH1 Divas concert, what women would you want performing and featured?
Between that video and a great “Women of Country” performance at the recent CMT Awards, the talent and presence of so many talented female performers has never been more evident. I remember the VH1 Divas series as well and those were some fantastic musical performances although I don’t know if VH1 could do it anymore. Do they even play music videos? Does anyone anymore? But for the sake of this question, let’s assume that they do and wanted to bring this series back. Who should perform or more specifically, who would I choose to perform if I was the one making the call? We need a headliner or two so I’d go with Janet Jackson, Dolly Parton and Lady Gaga. Then add in a strong set of talents such as Mary J. Blige, Rickie Lee Jones, Gretchen Wilson, Gwen Stefani, Reba McIntyre, Miley Cyrus and Lita Ford. Throw in some quick shots by Jessi Colter, Patti Labelle and if she’s able, Mavis Staples. And for the hell of it to round things out, Boy George… just because. And there you go. A lot of talent from various genres and all of them are top of the line and the best there is at what they do. Admit it, you’d watch.
Daredevil versus Iron Fist – who wins in a fight?
Are we talking about the comic book version or the characters from the now cancelled, but so damn awesome Netflix series? If it’s the characters from the series, I think I’d have to give the edge to Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, the Man Without Fear. Danny (Iron Fist) is the more skilled fighter, but Daredevil is more ruthless and willing to fight dirty if need be. Also, Danny tends to over-rely on the power of the Iron Fist and I think Matt would find a way to take him out before he’s able to summon his chi and use his special weapon. As for the comics, I think that Danny Rand would have the advantage. He’s not as inexperienced as his Netflix counterpart and while Daredevil is more skilled and experience as well, Danny would find a way to confuse Matt’s radar senses and take advantage to beat him. It wouldn’t be easy by any means, but Iron First would walk out the victor.
What is your favorite muffin?
Stud muffins of course. Damn, I need to get laid. I need a boyfriend or at least a friendly boy for a few hours of passion, lust and kinky stuff. But I guess that technically, this question was probably more about the breatfast treat that we get at the local deli and nibble on while we drink coffee and read the newspaper. I don’t go to delis, drink coffee or read newspapers much anymore except for the obituaries, crime reports and Dear Abby, but I know the routine. My personal muffin of choice has always been either a Banana Nut Muffin or maybe a Blueberry. I’d rather have an eggroll or brownie.
What is your biggest regret?
Where do I begin? The people in my life that I wasted too much time on only to be screwed over? The good people I let get away because of my issues with trust and how I push them away instead of letting them get close? Not staying in Wilmington back in 97 and moving back to Laurinburg? So many bad decisions and choices over the years that I would change if I could, but can’t. I’ve been given a lot of second chances and opportunities despite all the stupid things that I’ve done in the past and still do on occasion. I’m not sure of anything specific I can put here. I screwed up many times over the years, but for better or worse, that has made me who I am and every experience and person has been a lesson. I could put not trying for a real relationship and having kids is at the top of the list as well. So many things and answers for this question. I have regrets, but why dwell on this. That’s the past and what matters is the present and the future. No looking in the rear-view mirror for this man.
Should transgenders be allowed to compete in sports competitions?
This is going to piss a few people off, but the answer is no and here’s why. If a person is physically a male, then they have no right or reason to compete against women in athletic events. They may identify as women, but nature and genetics have given them male physical attributes and body features and one on one against a woman, it’s an unfair physical advantage. Physically, no matter how you want to argue it, men and women are NOT equal. Men tend to be bigger, stronger and faster. The bodies are different and that’s why most athletic competitions are split with men competing against other men and women competing against other women. When a transgender comes in with the male body and competes in a women’s competition, they have so many physical advantages, it’s not even close. It’s wrong and unfair to the women athletes and as good as they are, they’re going to get beaten. I don’t care what a person identifies as. If a full physical says they’re male, then they should compete against males only. If a full physical says they’re female, then they compete against women… period. What a person identifies as is a psychological matter, not a physical one. There are two genders, male or female and in terms of sports and athletics and legitimate competitions, people need to stick with their gender… period.

Take care and I’ll catch you on the flip side.
