Tossing Salt Presents:
AEW Double Or Nothing 2020
Thoughts & Predictions
May 22, 2020
Coming up on Saturday night is All Elite Wrestling’s Double Or Nothing pay-per-view event. So are you ready for a few predictions? Let’s do this.
Best Friends vs. Private Party (The Buy In Kickoff Show):
Where has the Private Party been? What did they do to deserve the chance to challenge for the top contender’s spot for the tag team championship? Best Friends have been there every week and have had some good matches while PP, not quite so much. I have to go with Best Friends here. Friendship is a road that leads to gold and titles and people that party all the time remind me too much of being at work. They get on my nerves.
Winners and NEW Number One Contenders, The Best Friends…
Kris Statlander versus Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D.
Baker has really developed into one of the best characters in AEW over the past few months and let’s be honest here. Who is going to bet against a dentist. Statlander is getting that strong baby-face push and she’ll put out a great effort, but part of being a face is learning through adversity. Go watch the Steve Martin “dentist” video on YouTube from the movie, Little Shop of Horrors. And then be ready to watch Baker use that mandible claw and take home the big win.
Winner: Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D.
Casino Ladder Match for AEW Championship Bout – Orange Cassidy, Rey Fenix, Darby Allin, Colt Cabana, Luchasaurus, Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky:
A ladder match where the winner gets a shot at the AEW Championship. How original and unique. I love it. There will be an eighth entrant who’s a mystery. I’m predicting Joey Janela, but it really could be anyone. Well anyone except for the former WWE talent recently released. They’re not available until July. It doesn’t matter who the eighth person is though. I think it will come down to Darby Allin, Scorpio Sky, or Luchasaurus. I don’t think AEW is ready for a dino-man to be champ so I’ll take Luchasaurus out of the mix. My bro used to be a skateboarder and I think he may have even worn facepaint once or twice. I’ll use that as my deciding factor.
Winner: Darby Allin
MJF vs. Jungle Boy
I think that AEW has a future big star in Jungle Boy and he’s a fantastic performer who gets better every week, but he’s facing MJF here. MJF is currently undefeated and he’s not going to lose his first match to someone who primarily is a tag team wrestler. This might be the best match of the night and I think that Jungle Boy will give MJF a fight for his life, but in the end, a little cheating and sneaky deed or two and we’ll see MJF end up with the win. And then he’ll remind us that he’s better than us, just because.
Dustin Rhodes versus Shawn Spears
Is Tully Blanchard still the manager for Spears? Dustin needs to get a win here, but so does Spears. I think that Spears actually needs it more than Dustin does. Dustin is over and at this point, he could lose every week and no one would care. This needs to be the start of a reboot for Spears to get things moving again in the right direction.
Winner: Shawn Spears
AEW Women’s Champion Nyla Rose vs. Hikaru Shida – No DQ.
No offense to Shida, but this match is a squash waiting to happen, especially with the No DQ rule in effect. Nyla Rose dominates and retains her title.
Winner and STILL AEW Women’s Champion: Nyla Rose
The Elite vs. The Inner Circle in a “Stadium Stampede” match.
All roads are leading to the “Blood & Guts” match, known better as the War Games and for that to happen, this one needs to go to the Inner Circle. The Elite have been going in a dozen different directions as of late and even with the addition of Matt Hardy, they’re not on the same page. The Inner Circle is together, united, and the absolute best thing that AEW, or pro wrestling in general has going today. Look for craziness and insanity to be the rule of the day and I expect that Sammy Guevera will score the win for his team at the end of the night.
Winners: The Inner Circle
Mike Tyson to present Title Belt to Winner Lance Archer with Jake Roberts vs. Cody with Arn Anderson to determine the first AEW TNT Champion.
Will Tyson end up knocking someone out? Will Arn Anderson and Jake Roberts end up getting physical? Will there be lots of blood? And who will end up as the first-ever TNT Champion? Yes, Tyson will end up laying someone out. That’s almost a given. The only question is who. I don’t think Arn will get the chance to give Snake the spine-buster. I haven’t seen Roberts take a bump in years so I think he might slip away and Arn might have to give that patented love-tap to someone else instead. There will be lots and lots of blood. Having a Rhodes in the match assures us of that. And the first champion? Cody is the face of the company, complete with the ugly tattoo, but Archer is the better pick as the Inaugural Champion. So how about this? Arn turns on Cody, after all Arn is an Anderson and Cody is a Rhodes. It’s one of the rules of old-school wrestling. Andersons and Rhodes do not belong together. Archer wins as a result and becomes the first champion. Tyson knocks out Arn. And the fans are pissed, but they still get a happy moment. Works for me.
Winner and NEW TNT Champion: Lance Archer
AEW Champion Jon Moxley vs. Brodie Lee
I like Brodie Lee and look forward to seeing him as a top guy in AEW for many years to come, but I just can’t see him as the champion yet. Moxley bores the hell out of me and this run as the AEW Champion has been just about as exciting to me as his runs with the WWE title. In other words, not too good! But better to stick with the status quo for now and let Lee build his character and get the belt when the time is right instead of too soon. Moxley retains.
Winner and STILL AEW World Champion: Jon Moxley
