Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Hogan’s Banned From AEW, Cody Rhodes, Daniel Puder & More
June 7, 2020
It’s a beautiful and extremely hot Sunday afternoon and guess what? It’s time to do that Q&A thing again. The questions are from my timeline on Facebook (and Cheese). The answers come from me. Let’s do this.
Thoughts on Tony Khan banning Linda Hogan & Hulk Hogan from all AEW shows and events?
Does Linda Hogan even know what AEW is? She’s not a Hogan anymore, not part of the business, and from what I understand according to Jim Cornette and others, bat-shit crazy. And she’s a racist. And Hulk Hogan is signed with WWE, makes big money through his association with WWE, and is arguably a bigger name than AEW could ever hope to be. I seriously doubt that he has any plans to go to AEW or risk the deals with WWE in any way, shape, or form anyhow. This is Tony Khan seeing Linda (not a) Hogan be stupid on Twitter and trying to score some publicity and brownie points by making a proclamation that has no real purpose or effect on anyone. It’s just trying to kiss up to the left and fan-base. Nothing more.
If you can meet 1 person in AEW, who do you want to meet?
Sammy Guevera, in a dark room, with lots of Bud Light, tequila, and a hot tub. Woof!
Who in your family hates wrestling? Does it cause issues?
Everyone in my immediate family is or once was a wrestling fan, although none are to the extreme that I am. It doesn’t cause any issues because we’re all adults and respect each other’s lives and passions. A funny thing growing up though. My Dad, when we were youngsters, would grouch and complain about my brother and me watching wrestling. Lots of mumbling under his breath and mutters of “stupid shit” and other more colorful phrases. But then someone like Ric Flair or Blackjack Mulligan would come on the TV and you could see him peeking around the corner, watching and listening. I think he secretly enjoyed it but didn’t want us kids to know. If he was still here today, I’d probably have him watching and going to live shows. The Indy shows, not the mainstream big companies. I think he would enjoy it.
Is it fair that Cody Rhodes is the first person to have the TNT title considering he is the Executive Vice President of AEW?
He’s also a second-generation superstar, a veteran of many years, and one of the most popular and talented wrestlers on the AEW roster. If Lawler could be a thirty-plus time USWA Champion and Verne Gagne could be a ten-time AWA World Champion, I have no problems with Cody holding the TNT Championship title.
Sammy Guevara versus Chris Jericho in a one on one no holds barred shoot fight, who would you root for?
I’d root for both men since I’m a fan of both. I’d probably root a little harder for Sammy because I have a man-crush on him, but I’d still be happy regardless of who won. And Jericho would be the winner in my opinion.
Will AEW ever have its own network like WWE where you can subscribe?
Maybe fifteen or twenty years down the road if they’re still in business and active, but they need to work on their current product right now before worrying about stuff like that.
How do you think the Midnight Express vs Tully/Arn feud would’ve been booked had the latter two stayed with the company and not jumped to WWF?
I think we may have seen the title go back and forth a few times before finally, due to someone else like Sting or The Steiners got involved and then it would have been an Express / Horsemen alliance being formed and at the end, Bobby & Stan would have become part of the Horsemen, while manager Jim Cornette worked in the office and as an announcer.
In their primes, King Kong Bundy versus The Big Bossman. Who wins?
I like Bundy, but this one goes to the Bossman, no doubt.
Did WWF drop the ball with Daniel Puder after he won the fourth season of Tough Enough?
After the incident with Kurt Angle, where he showed the Olympian and future Hall of Famer up on live TV and nearly broke his arm, WWE definitely dropped the ball with Puder. It should have capitalized on the situation and built Daniel into a shoot-fighter persona. A feud with Angle would have been big money for WWE. But instead, Puder got bullied by Bob Holly, Chris Benoit, and others and instead of building a star, WWE just ended up letting him go. Even now, a Kurt Angle vs Daniel Puder special attraction match could make money and be big if both men were willing. Hurt feelings and big egos screwed this up. Too bad.
Ken Patera, John Studd & Ernie Ladd versus The New Day. Who wins?
Just hearing the Ernie Ladd promos calling New Day “Uncle Tom’s” would be exciting to hear and the build for this would be great. The size and strength go to the Patera, Ladd, & Studd team. Speed and teamwork would be in favor of the New Day. If it was a long-running feud, the advantage would go to the New Day as well. But for a one-shot match, I think either we’d end up with a DQ finish to keep both teams strong or the heels would steal a win and take home the victory.
