Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Jim Cornette, Social Media, Zack Ryder & More
June 21, 2020
And welcome to yet another edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. It’s too hot to go outside for long and I’m not feeling particularly sociable so why not tackle a few of the questions in my mailbox. These come from Chico and The Cheese. Are you ready? Let’s do this…
In honor of Father’s Day, who were the best father-son tag team combinations you’ve seen wrestle?
I don’t remember seeing any father-son combinations that wrestled together regularly as a tag team and had great success as a team, but I do remember seeing many father-son combinations in the ring. Blackjack Mulligan and Blackjack Mulligan Jr., aka Barry Windham. Fritz Von Erich and his sons Kevin, David, Kerry, and Mike. Vince and Shane McMahon. Ric and David Flair. I don’t know if Bob & Randy Orton ever had the chance to team up or Mike Rotundo and either of his sons, Bray Wyatt & Bo Dallas, but I guess there is still hope for those teams to happen. I do remember Chavo Guerrero & his father, Chavo Classic, wrestling against each other a time or two. And Jimmy Garvin started as the manager/valet for his step-father, Ronnie Garvin. So there you go.
What are your thoughts on the allegations made on Jim Cornette and his wife?
It’s alleged that Corny would use his influence to get guys to sleep with his wife while Corny often watched. It sounds freaky and outlandish, but for some reason, I’m not too surprised at this. Allegedly, this has been a thing for Corny all through his career from OVW to WWE to ROH and beyond, but while it is an abuse of power, at least everyone was adults and of-age and it doesn’t sound like anything illegal, just messed up. Where Corny is now, he’s pretty much independent and doesn’t work in the business as an active talent or executive anymore so unless something criminal happened that we’re not aware of yet, I expect that this will all blow over soon enough. Corny and his wife like the company in the bedroom and are freaks. Whatever!
How about your thoughts on Vince Russo vs. Ryan Satin?
Russo and Satin are both two bitches who are not as relevant as they think they are and are more alike than different. I don’t know why they’re bickering on social media and to be honest, I don’t really care. Two walking wastes of space and air so far as I’m concerned.
Do you believe that the recent outbreak of COVID-19 at the WWE Performance Center could harm future tapings?
It all depends on what the state and county decide to do and if they wanted to cause issues to the WWE for the recent outbreak, but my guess is that they’ll look the other way and tell WWE to tighten up and nothing more. WWE is too important to the local economy and Vince & Linda have some mighty important and powerful friends and they’re not going to be bothered too much.
Should the WWE be able to change Creative Plans based on what wrestlers say on Social Media?
WWE can change creative plans based on what Vince eats for breakfast and whatever mood he’s in at the moment so assuming that Vince and WWE can alter things based on what’s trending and what the talent is saying on Twitter is not a big stretch in the slightest.
What do you think will happen with Vince McMahon having a more creative say over NXT?
We’ll see more “stars” from the main rosters making appearances, more generic and scripted promos, and more talking instead of wrestling.
Should Paul Heyman have been demoted from his Executive Director position?
I don’t think so, but in the end, the decision lies with Vince McMahon and if he’s not happy with the way Heyman was doing his job, then it was his call to terminate Heyman from that position. What you and I think doesn’t matter in the slightest.
Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder, has filed to trademark “Major Wrestling Federation”. If Cardona does start his wrestling promotion, would you be interested, and is this a good idea?
Cardona seems like a smart guy and he knows the wrestling business so if he’s interested in starting a small promotion, it would be worth taking a look at. Once this pandemic crap is over with, there is going to be a desire for a strong product and good wrestling. If Cardona is wanting to help fill that void and help give guys a place to work while being groomed for the future, so be it. I think it’s a great move. Woo woo woo, you know it!
