Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Velveteen Dream, Tessa Blanchard, Jerry Lawler & More
June 28, 2020
I’m depressed. Maybe talking about wrestling will cheer me up. Let’s find out. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Let’s do this…
Rumors are that WWE is ready to cut ties with Velveteen Dream over recent “Speaking Out” allegations. Thoughts?
While Patrick Clark, aka The Velveteen Dream, is a great character and performer who has come a long way since winning Tough Enough a few years ago, he seems to be constantly followed by stories of trying to talk to and exchange pictures of a sexual nature with minors. I think WWE is just getting tired of the bad publicity that the most recent allegations against Clark and are beginning to wonder if he’s worth the hassles. He’s a popular star for NXT, but he’s one among many and if he does get the boot, it’s not really a big loss.
What was the most shocking betrayal in WWE history?
Was it when Andre turned on Hogan? Or when HBK threw Marty Jannetty through the window of the Barber Shop? How about when The McMahon’s turned on Mick Foley? I’ll go with something more recent. How about Randy Orton turning on the newly returned Edge the night after the Royal Rumble, leading to the feud they have today and the return of the “Legend Killer” gimmick for Orton.
Would you be mad if Tessa Blanchard does not come to AEW?
No, I don’t take this stuff personally. If she goes to AEW, cool. And if she goes to WWE, that’s cool too. And if she ends up working at Wal-Mart as a greeter, that’s cool too. I just want to see Tessa do what’s best for her career and where she can be used well (but not wrestling against men).
What are your favorite finishers, of today and/or all time?
I’ve always been partial to the sleeper, as performed by Johnny Weaver or the claw, as performed by Baron Von Raschke.
The Hart Foundation versus Ric Flair & Barry Windham. Who wins?
Don’t forget to add Jimmy Hart and James J. Dillon to the mix as the managers on the outside. It could honestly go either way, but I think that the Horsemen would have a little bonus help from Arn and Tully and find a way to steal the win. The Horsemen win.
Sid Vicious & Vader versus RVD & Sabu. Who wins?
Sid and Vader… no doubts about it.
Jerry Lawler was removed from his position on RAW due to past “insensitive comments”. Do you agree with this decision by WWE?
Not really, no. If you go back and watch older editions of Memphis wrestling, Lawler is racist, homophobic, and just a plain dick more often than not. But WWE knew about all of this before he ever started working for them over twenty-plus years ago and it’s not a surprise for anyone so why stress it now. If it was important enough to cause Lawler to be removed from the RAW announce table, it should have been addressed years ago. If the reason for Lawler being dismissed was that he sucks as an announcer, is out of touch and dated in his commentary, or just because Vince thinks he’s too Southern, that would be okay and I would care less. Samoa Joe is doing a good job as the color guy on RAW and I’m enjoying his work far better than I have Lawler’s in a long, long time. But the reasons being used for Lawler’s removal from RAW are just plain dumb and don’t work for me. Not in the slightest.
There are rumors that WWE is considering shutting down NXT: UK due to the #SpeakingOut allegations and the high expenses of keeping the company going.
Right now, not being able to tour and having all of those expenses with no revenue being generated, I can understand if WWE makes that decision, especially of the way the Speaking Out allegations have rocked the European wrestling scene. I hope they don’t do that though. I like the idea of NXT and Performance Centers all across the world. In the end, it’s all going to come down to the bottom line and costs versus gains, but I hope that NXT UK manages to make the cut and survive.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. I feel better. My nerves are shot and my body is racked with pain, but this gave me a momentary distraction and for that, I thank you.
