WWE NXT Great American Bash: Thoughts & Predictions…

WWE NXT Great American Bash
Thoughts & Predictions

Tomorrow night, live on the USA Network, is a very special edition of NXT. It’s the (sort of) return of The Great American Bash, the 2020 edition. Five matches are scheduled and of course, that means it’s time to do a few predictions. So let’s cut the chit-chat and play Gary Spivey, but without the glitter wig and Mr. Wonderful. Let’s do this…

NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai versus Sasha Banks

Bayley will be in Sasha’s corner as the woman who will be challenging Asuka at Extreme Rules for the RAW Women’s Championship faces the current NXT Women’s Champion in a non-title match. Since it’s not for the Championship and since Sasha has a big match coming up in a few weeks, she should get the win here. But Io just won her title a few weeks ago at the Takeover: InYour House event and it’s too soon to take a loss, even against Sasha Banks. So look for Asuka to get involved, Bayley to be kicked in the face, and Sasha to be distracted, thus giving the NXT Women’s Champion a big win.

Winner: Io Shirai

Strap Match
Dexter Lumis versus Roderick Strong

This is the first strap match in NXT history and I don’t know the story behind it. I just know that I’ve seen Strong wrestle many times and the man is a future big star. I remember Lumis from when he was on Impact Wrestling as Samuel Shaw. A good talent, but being a former TNA guy, he’s not going to get any big pushes or wins.

Winner: Roderick Strong

4-Way Elimination Match to Determine #1 Contender for NXT Women’s Championship
Mia Yim versus Tegan Nox versus Candice LeRae versus Dakota Kai

So who gets to fight Io Shirai at the next big NXT event? All four women are worthy, but my gut instinct just says Candice LeRae. I don’t know why, but the gut never lies, except of course when it comes to making relationship choices. Then it’s rarely right. But the gut knows wrestling and the guy says LeRae so…

Winner and NEW #1 Contender: Candice LeRae

Handicap Match – If Ripley Loses, She Must Sign With Stone
Rhea Ripley versus Aliyah & Robert Stone

I think seeing Ripley being forced to be managed by Robert Stone would be entertaining and funny. Thus, I think that’s the way this should go. Dumb luck and the Robert Stone family has a new client.

Winners: Aliyah & Robert Stone

Oney Lorcan versus Timothy Thatcher

Lorcan demanded this match and it should be a doozy of an encounter. Thatcher’s last big match was a win against Matt Riddle in the Fight Pit and it’s too soon for him to take a loss here. Oney has to have a good match, but so long as he does that, he doesn’t need to win. He’s already over and getting more fans behind him each week. So look for a great match and for Oney to come just so close, and for Thatcher to get his arm raised in the end.

Winner:  Timothy Thatcher

And there you go. My thanks for reading. So are you watching NXT on Wednesday night or will you be watching AEW and Fyterfist on TNT? Don’t worry. Predictions for that show are coming up later tonight. Let me know which show you’re watching and who will be the winners and losers. And with that, I’m out of here. Have a great one, stay safe, be cool, and I’ll see you at the matches.
