Tossing Salt Presents:
A Day Of Dougie
Tusk, Bunny Rabbits & Roomie Jack
August 21, 2020
Good morning and welcome to a Day of Dougie, the award-winning piece where I draw topics at random from out of a bag and with no preparation, no advance notice, and no time to get ready. start writing and talking about the said topic. It’s what I do. So are you ready? Let’s just jump right to it since time is short and so is Danny, in more ways than one. Inside joke, but if you knew Danny, you’d get it. So are you ready?
And we go to the infamous “Magic Bag” and draw some slips of paper, some topics of discussion. What are we speaking of today? We have, “Tusk”, “Bunny Rabbits”, and “Roomie Jack”. Okay then. So now we know the subjects. Let’s do this…
Tusk was a great psychological thriller written and directed by Kevin Smith that came out a few years ago where, to put it bluntly (spoiler alert), a man, played by the incredible Justin Long, was turned into a Walrus. It’s an interesting movie that will have you shaking your head and going “What the…?” quite often, but it’s a good watch. There’s an uncredited appearance by Johnny Depp which is ‘tres cool, and it’s just a cool movie. Kevin Smith should be proud. Given the ending, which was kind of sad, you have to wonder if there’s more and from what I understand, Kevin Smith is working on a possible sequel. Tusk 2. Are you ready for that? I know that I am, but given how many times Smith has leaked about a possible sequel (Clerks 3, Mallrats 2), only to have something go wrong and the plans fall apart, we’ll just have to wait and see. But if you want a good “wow” movie, check this one out. It’s over at Netflix. You’ll be glad you did.
They’re soft, cute, cuddly, and like to dress in drag and be assholes, all while in search of a carrot. What’s up Doc? Well, that was just the one rabbit we all know and love, but they do exist and are some beautiful creatures. They’re also kind of messy to have around and I personally wouldn’t want one as a pet. My cat would try and kill it most likely. But bunnies are cool. Did you ever look at the cover of a Playboy magazine and try to find the bunny? It’s there, every month. The more you know. And I’m tired of talking about rascally rabbits so now I’ll quit and move on.
Back in the late ’80s, I had a roommate and his name was Jack. It was a weird deal where my first roommate, who I had gotten an apartment with, moved out to go back home. I needed a roomie and Jack was a cool guy who I knew and needed a place to stay. So he moved in and it was a blast, most of the time. Lots of drinking and partying and he did his thing, I did mine, etc. A sexy man too although nothing ever happened between us. I was too damn shy and scared. Imagine that. But it lasted for quite a while and then I got tired of footing most of the bills and it had to end. But we’re still friends, at least in my mind, and we had some incredible experiences and times. He’s an amazing guy that I will never forget. And if he ever came around and needed a place to crash, I’d do it all over again in a flash. Old friends are the best friends and Jack Carter was one of the best, even if he did eat Theresa’s Happy Meal. I hope he’s doing well and life has been good to Jack. He’s a good egg. ‘Nuff said!
And with that, I’m closing this bad mama-jama up. Thanks for reading.
