It’s Sunday morning and you know what that means? It means I slept far later than I should, time is short, and I need to wash clothes. Are you ready to talk pro wrestling? Let’s do this…
Is Darby Allin a new era Jeff Hardy?
He’s athletic and charismatic and flies around like a Super Ball that’s being bounced against the wall, but a modern-day Jeff Hardy? There are similarities but in the end, there is only one Jeff Hardy and only one Darby Allin and both men are unique in their personalities and characters. Allin is not a new era Jeff Hardy, but instead a current era Darby Allin. So there you go.
Do you think Renee Young will join Tony Schiavone and Jim Ross as part of the AEW announce team?
If she does end up working with AEW at some point in the future, I think putting her with Ross and Schiavone is a no-brainer. I can’t see her working full time at the announce table, but every so often, absolutely.
If you could bring back any wrestler from the grave who would it be?
I don’t think I would bring back anyone because death is a part of life and everything happens for a reason. I’d love to see Eddie Guerrero or Chris Benoit or even Blackjack Mulligan or Harley Race in that ring again being the talented and entertaining stars that they were, but they lived and died for a reason. Instead of wishing for them back, I prefer to honor their lives, cherish the memories and wish them well as they hopefully now can rest in peace.
When you see Goldberg you think of WCW. When you see RVD you think of ECW. When you see HBK you think of WWE. Who you think of when people say AEW?
I think of Chris Jericho since he was the first major start to commit to the company and has done everything since Day 1 to help the company grow and prosper.
If AEW allowed you to name a PPV event, what would you name it?
I was always a big fan of Slamboree for WCW and the whole “Legend’s Reunion” show with presentations, legends matches, and stars of the past, present, and future all interacting to make a great show full of good wrestling mixed with nostalgia. I realize that Slamboree is licensed to WWE as an event name although I heard that AEW might be trying to copyright the name. That’s the concept I’d want to use for the show I name and the name of the event? I think I’d go with “Time Warp”. Yes, I am a fan and card-carrying member of the Rocky Horror Picture Show fan club so that name has a double-sized place in my heart. AEW Time Warp. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
Dave Meltzer has insinuated that MJF will eventually surpass The Rock as a wrestling superstar. Do you agree?
In the actual world of professional wrestling, it’s possible, but in the entirety of the world of entertainment and reality, there is only one Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. I love me some MJF and he’s a fantastic performer and heel but he’s not The Rock, nor should he try to be. Just being MJF is enough and the future is so bright for this kid, he’s going to have to wear shades.
Chris Jericho thinks the FTW title is useless. Thoughts?
Well, he’s not wrong.
Thoughts on the WWE Thunderdome?
It’s an interesting concept and it does add to the WWE product, but it’s still not a live audience full of screaming fans. It’ll work for now, but I’m ready for live crowds and fan interaction in person once more.
