WWE Payback 2020: Thoughts & Predictions…

Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE Payback 2020
Thoughts & Predictions
August 29, 2020

Coming up tomorrow night, live from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, and airing live on the WWE Network is WWE Payback, the 2020 edition. We’re only a week removed from SummerSlam and WWE is ready to do it again so we will too. Prediction time, here we go. Let’s do this…

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
Bayley & Sasha Banks (champions) versus Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

Two stories to watch here as can Bayley and Sasha get along and work as a team after Bayley “messed up” last week and ending up costing Sasha the RAW Women’s Championship and can Nia & Shayna work as a team? Yes to the first question and as for the second, WWE loves the “partners who don’t get along” story and use it far too often. And I do not doubt that they’ll be doing it again here. Mixed signals between Bayley and Sasha lead to Nia & Shayna capturing the win and the titles. Watch and see.

Winners and NEW Women’s Tag Team Champions: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

United States Championship
Apollo Crews(champion) versus Bobby Lashley (w/ Shelton Benjamin & MVP)

Is it time for the Cedric Alexander heel turn yet? Apollo has his hands full with the MVP and Shelton and we’ll see Cedric come out to lend a hand, to the bad guys. Lashley wins the match and walks out with the title.

Winner and NEW United States Champion: Bobby Lashley

WWE Universal Championship
Triple Threat – No Holds Barred
“The Fiend” Bray Wyatt (c) versus Braun Strowman versus Roman Reigns w/ Paul Heyman

Bray deserves a long and respectful run as the Universal Champion, but now that Roman is back, I don’t think he’s going to get it. Just imagine that Roman wins the belt here, with the aid of Paul Heyman of course. And then Brock decides he wants to be Universal Champion again. What will Heyman do? With the return of Roman and the alliance with Heyman, Bray and Braun are just afterthoughts for WWE Creative and Vince. New champion as Roman spears and defeats Braun.

Winner and NEW WWE Universal Champion: Roman Reigns w/ Paul Heyman

Keith Lee versus Randy Orton

It’s Lee’s first pay-per-view match as a member of the main roster so he’s not going to lose here. Randy lost a match last week to Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam so he’s not going to lose here either. We’re looking at a no-contest finish with a double count-out. The feud continues.

No Contest: Both Men Are Counted Out

Rey Mysterio & Dominick Mysterio versus Seth Rollins & Murphy

Dominick lost his debut match against Seth last week and now it’s time for Retribution. No doubt that they’ll be in the arena and part of the show, but not in this match. This one, we see a big change in one of the key players. Dominick turns on Rey and joins Seth & Murphy as a disciple. The Monday Night Messiah gains a follower and takes home a win over a dejected legend.

Winners: Seth Rollins & Murphy

Matt Riddle versus King Corbin

Are you serious, Bro? We know who’s going to win here Bro! Someone buy that boy some shoes, Bro! Riddle wins.

Winner: Matt Riddle

Big E versus Sheamus

This one was just added today and I suspect that before the night is out, at least one more match will be added as well for the Kickoff Show. As for this one, Big E is getting a push and Sheamus is more or less just there to put people over. It’ll be a good match and probably stiff as hell, but in the end, who wins is not in any doubt.

Winner: Big E

Kickoff Show: The IIconics vs. Liv Morgan & Ruby Riott.

A match we’ve seen a dozen times already and here we are again.  The Iiconics are the classic tag team, but WWE seems to almost want to push Liv & Ruby, but then keep pulling back.  I guess it’ll start again here and then go nowhere.

Winners: Liv Morgan & Ruby Riott – The Riott Squad

And there you go. My thanks for reading. So who do you think will be the winners and losers of this big event Sunday?
