Ultimate Wrestling Q&A: Don Kernodle, Miro, Ronda And AJ Lee & More…

Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Don Kernodle, Miro, Ronda Rousey & AJ Lee & More
September 13, 2020

I feel like crap today and there may not be a Q&A tomorrow so I decided that it would be best to do it now, just in case. So here you go. Thanks to Cheese and Matthew for the questions. Let’s do this…

Why was Don Kernodle not a bigger star in the ’80s?

In the Mid-Atlantic region, Kernodle was a solid mid-card performer who had several runs as part of the NWA World Tag Team Champions, with Sgt. Slaughter, Ivan Koloff, and Bob Orton Jr. as his partners. He had a good career and was presented as the “home town hero” for Crockett, being born and raised in North Carolina. Maybe he wasn’t a Ric Flair or Blackjack Mulligan, due partially to choosing to stay in the Carolinas rather than travel to other territories, but he had a good and solid career and nothing at all to be ashamed of.

Does Jay Youngblood belong in the WWE Hall of Fame?

I had the chance to see Jay wrestle many times in the ’80s and he was a good solid performer, but would I consider him one of the elite? Not really. His tag team work with Rick Steamboat was indeed legendary and I could see him going into the Hall of Fame as part of their “Legacy Inductions”, but as a solo performer, it’s not going to happen, nor should it.

Thoughts & memories of George Wells?

I don’t remember much about Wells. He was a former NFL player who wrestled for Crockett for a couple of years and had a run with Dewey Robertson as his partner as the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions, but aside from that, I’m drawing a blank. I know he worked for Mid-South and Bill Watts for a while as well after he left Crockett, but that’s about it.

What would be a good team name for Sonny Kiss & Joey Janella?

I keep hearing in my memory Jim Cornette calling Janella “Jelly” and thus, I would give these two the name of “Jelly Kiss”. Lame, I know, but it’s the first thing that comes to mind.

I saw a rumor that Ronda Rousey may be returning to WWE with AJ Lee as her manager. Thoughts?

With both Charlotte and Becky Lynch out of action, now would be a great time to have Ronda back in the WWE. She’s a top star, adds instant credibility to the Women’s Division, and I’d love to see her take on Shayna Baszler or Asuka in some high profile matches. As for AJ Lee as her manager, that would be awesome too. AJ is great on the mic, far better than Ronda, and as a former champion, she’d add instant credibility to Ronda’s character. Plus she’s entertaining and a great worker and I just want to see her back on my TV again. If WWE can get Ronda and AJ together as a team and back in the ring, I’m all for it.

What did you think of Miro(Rusev)’s debut in AEW?

It was a good start and first impression. Now, he needs to quit with the smiles and do what he does best, and that will be “CRUSH!”

Do you really believe that Vince McMahon “listens to fans”, according to Stephanie McMahon?

I think he does listen to a point and if something he hears makes sense, he’ll give it the proper consideration. And if it’s something he doesn’t agree with or not fitting what he feels the WWE should be, he’ll ignore it and listen instead to his judgment and the advice of his inner circle.

What did you think of AEW Dynamite breaking through 1 Million viewers this week?

I think that was great for AEW. Now they need to see if they can repeat getting those viewers back when actually running against NXT and with opposition. It’s easy to get the people to check in once. To keep coming back over and over, that’s the hard part.
