Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE Clash of Champions: Gold Rush
Thoughts & Predictions
September 26, 2020
Coming up on Sunday night, live on the WWE Network in the ThunderDome at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, is WWE Clash of Champions: Gold Rush. And you know what that means, right? It’s time to channel our inner Sister Cleo and make with the predictions. Let’s do this…
WWE Championship Ambulance Match: Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton
An ambulance match? Really? I get it with the stipulation, but I just prefer titles to change hands with pins or submissions and not because one guy locks another inside a car. The build for this match has been pretty cool and I like the tease that Keith Lee would possibly be inserted into the match along with Orton and Drew. Orton doesn’t need to be the champ and I don’t think the belt needs to change hands just yet. Maybe we’ll move on to a feud with Lee and Orton after this and Drew can move on to a new and different challenger. I’m expecting to see a couple of Claymores and Drew getting the win to retain his title.
Winner and STILL WWE Champion: Drew McIntyre
WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso
I’m actually excited about this match and I would love to see Jey overcome the odds and take the belt from his cousin. I’d love to see it, but it won’t happen. Roman doesn’t need to be champion, but it’s too soon to remove the belt and he still has matters with the former champion, The Fiend, that need to be resolved. Look for Jey to take him to the limit and possibly be made as a singles star, much like Sting was with Flair at the original Clash of the Champions. But in the end, Roman will stand tall and remain the champion.
Winner and STILL WWE Universal Champion: Roman Reigns
SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Bayley vs. Nikki Cross
What is the current status of Sasha Banks? This match is just filler until the next big pay-per-view when The Boss comes looking for revenge. Nikki will give a good fight, but no title change is taking place here.
Winner and STILL WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion: Bayley
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax vs. The Riott Squad
So far, I haven’t predicted any title changes. Here is where it changes. Shayna and Nia implode and end up fighting each other. As a result, we get new champions as The Riott Squad win their first titles and become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Winners and NEW WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions: The Riott Squad
Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match: Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Lucha House Party
I’m sorry, but I just don’t like the Lucha House Party and these Mexicool wannabe’s don’t belong on a pay-per-view or deserve a shot at the tag titles. Shinsuke and Cesaro win and retain, as they should.
Winners and STILL WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions: Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura
Raw Tag Team Championship Match: The Street Profits vs. Angel Garza and Andrade
The Street Profits are a strong team and work together as brothers. Garza and Andrade don’t get along and seemingly just lost their manager, Zelina Vega, who has gone back to wrestling full time. They shouldn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. And so they will.
Winners and NEW RAW Tag Team Champions: Angel Garza & Andrade
WWE Undisputed Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match: Jeff Hardy vs. AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn
Sami won the match between the three on last night’s Smackdown so that means he won’t win the undisputed title. Too bad because I like having Sami as the champ. So it’s either Jeff Hardy or AJ Styles. Jeff is destined for another shot for the big belt, or so it seems to be, so I think this night will belong to AJ Styles.
Winner and NEW Undisputed Intercontinental Champion: AJ Styles
WWE United States Championship Match: Bobby Lashley vs. Apollo Crews
Lashley has the entire MVP led Hurt Business behind him so I can’t really see him losing the title anytime soon, but then again, the Hurt Business has made it a point to act as the solution to Retribution and if they get involved, which they probably will, anything can happen. So the NXT guys with the bad masks and names take MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander out of the match and away from ringside, and then Ricochet can interfere on behalf of his friend and we have a title change. Works for me.
Winner and NEW United States Champion: Apollo Crews
Raw Women’s Championship Kickoff Show Match: Asuka vs. Zelina Vega
Why are Asuka and Zelina stuck on the Kickoff Show? They deserve better, but at least with Zelina going on early, she may have the chance to show up later and help out her former clients, Andrade & Angel in their match. Asuka should beat Zelina and beat her convincingly, but something just came into my mind. Melina Perez. She says that she hasn’t signed with WWE, but I think she has. And if she was to show up here and help out her sister-in-sexiness, Zelina, it would make for a great moment and be very unexpected. The more I think about it, the more I like it. I hate to see Asuka lose her belt, but it’d make for a great angle so…
Winner and NEW RAW Women’s Champion: Zelina Vega
I also expect that we’ll see some shenanigans with the 24/7 Champion R-Truth and maybe a couple of title switches during the night. So I’ll say that R-Truth and Mojo Rawley have a run-in and maybe Truth and Akira Tozawa and his ninjas too. But at the end of the night, Truth will still walk out as the 24/7 Champion (I hope).
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts, or questions you’d like to ask, just give me a shout. What are your predictions for the Clash of the Champions?
