Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Serena Deeb, Impact Wrestling, Ryback & More
December 21, 2020
Welcome to Monday. Uugh! It’s time to do some Q&A, Ultimate Wrestling style. Let’s get busy and get to stepping.
Who else wants a feud between Varsity Blondes and FTR?
Griff Garrison and Brian Pillman Jr. are two very talented up and coming stars and a feud with them and FTR? I’m having flashbacks to the days of Dynamic Dudes versus The Midnight Express in WCW. I liked that feud and now, with Tully playing the role of Jim Cornette, we could see it again in The Blondes versus FTR. I say, “Book it, Tony Khan!”.
Your thoughts on Thunder Rosa?
She’s good in the ring and a pretty good promo. I like the unique look and character. I think, so long as she can stay healthy, there are big things in her future and she has the potential to be a headliner someday.
Sting versus Rick Steamboat. Who was the better babyface and did these two ever wrestle?
Though there was some crossover in their careers, it’s kind of like comparing apples to oranges as to who the better baby-face was. I guess I’ll go with Steamer as the better face because it’s hard to fathom him ever turning heel. Sting did do a run as part of Eddie Gilbert & Missy Hyatt’s family early in his career and a short stint as a Horseman so the tease was there. As far as did they ever wrestle, I don’t recall ever seeing or hearing about them being opponents. I’m not saying it never happened on a house-show or maybe in the training facility, but so far as on television or pay-per-view, I can’t find a record of it ever happening.
Your thoughts on Serena Deeb?
Highly underrated and it’s good to see her finally getting some recognition as of late with the NWA and AEW. A good performer who, much like Rosa who I spoke of earlier, has a big future ahead of her.
Do you want to see Ryback come to AEW in 2021?
If I never see Ryback in the ring again or even hear the name again, it’ll be too soon. He annoys the piss out of me.
Thoughts on WWE TLC?
A good and solid show from start to finish. Well, from start until the last match, and then it kind of went into fantasy lala-land for me. The match itself wasn’t bad. Orton and Bray have good chemistry and have good matches. I was content until the events after the end of the match. Murder is legal now so long as it’s part of a stipulation of a wrestling match? If they had ended with the initial shot of Bray catching on fire, that would have worked fine and I’d have been satisfied. But they had to take that extra step to expose the business and go from serious to stupid. Oy vey. But the rest of the show, including the return of Charlotte to team with Asuka, was pretty damn good.
What is it about Impact Wrestling that wrestling fans won’t get behind? They’ve had stacked rosters in the past and even their roster now is young but still very good and they can’t seem to gain traction? Is it linked to some bad name? Is it the lack of availability on TV? I’m curious to hear what you think?
I think it’s a combination of things. The show is good and the talent on the roster is strong, but the name and product are damaged goods. They’ve wasted the goodwill of the fans and squandered so many opportunities that even when the product is strong and good, people won’t give them another chance. Then when you factor in the limited viewership due to being on AXS instead of a major cable network and the timeslots, Tuesday nights, it all adds up. And the goofy shit. I enjoyed the recent wedding (and shooting) of John E. Bravo and Rosemary, but the typical wrestling viewing audience, they’re just going to roll their eyes at the shenanigans and craziness. I think a total reboot might be necessary at some point if Impact wants to break out of their bubble. It’s a shame because they’re finally doing most things right, but the sins of the past will forever haunt thee.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts, or questions you’d like to see answered, give me a shout. Until the next time, take care of yourself and stay safe. Have a very Merry Christmas and I’ll see you at the matches.
