Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE NXT Takeover: Vengeance Day
Thoughts & Predictions
February 14, 2021
Coming up later today, live on pay-per-view and the WWE Network is WWE NXT Takeover: Vengeance Day. That means it’s prediction time. Let’s do this…
WWE NXT Champion Finn Balor vs. Pete Dunne.
Coming back to NXT was definitely the right move for Finn Balor and he has really revitalized his character and helped to lift the brand up a notch or two. Pete Dunne is so good, it’s great to see him at the top of the card and cementing a spot in the roster among the top names. If he was to win the belt here, it wouldn’t be a shocker or upset by any means. But with that in mind, I think Finn is the man who should remain champion for the duration. We have Karrion Kross looming in the background. Pat McAffee is still around and what about the faint possibility of Edge challenging for the belt at Wrestlemania. Edge versus Balor would be off the charts. I’m not saying that Dunne wouldn’t be good in these roles, but he is the future. Balor is the here and now and I expect he’ll retain.
Winner and STILL NXT Champion: Finn Balor
WWE NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano vs. KUSHIDA.
This is going to be a total kick-ass match. It can easily go either way and it won’t be an upset regardless. I just have a feeling in my tum-tum (thank you Simon Miller) that we’ll see some gold switching hands here. And the tum-tum never lies, right?
Winner and NEW WWE NXT North American Champion: KUSHIDA
WWE NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai vs. Mercedes Martinez vs. Toni Storm – Triple Threat Match.
Another match that should be off the charts and all three women are so good, it won’t matter who wins. It’s not an upset. Common sense and normal WWE booking usually have the champion retaining in this kind of match and that will most likely be the case here as well. I think Martinez was just added to be the one to take a fall and to allow both Io and Storm to remain strong. That being said, I’d love to see Martinez be given a moment if it’s just for a short period of time. I want to see Mercedez win and so, that’s the way I’ll go with my prediction.
Winner and NEW NXT Women’s Champion: Mercedes Martinez
Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic Tournament Final: Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez vs. Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon.
So far as this match goes, I expect to see Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez win. Nothing against Shotzi and Moon, but Raquel is so good and dominating, I can’t see her losing any match at this point in her career. The thing I’m wondering about this is who will be presenting the trophy to the winners? The family of Dusty Rhodes would be the normal choice, but since Dustin and Cody are part of AEW, who will step up and take their spot? My pick would be either Nikla Roberts, aka Baby Doll and/or Magnum TA. Nikita Koloff would work too, but I just want to see Baby Doll standing in a WWE ring. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens later tonight, but I’m sure WWE has a good Dusty-related surprise waiting.
Winners: Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez
Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic Tournament Final. MSK vs. Grizzled Young Veterans.
MSK is a good up-and-coming team and their day is coming, but this one should go to the Grizzled Young Veterans. They’ve been there for so long and always come so close, this should be their night. I think it will be.
Winners: The Grizzled Young Veterans
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts, or questions are welcome and appreciated. Enjoy NXT tonight and let me know what you think of the show. Take care of yourself and I’ll see you at the matches.
