Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Peacock, AEW Factions, Sable & More
April 7, 2021
Congratulations to everyone who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame last night. I didn’t get to watch it since Peacock sucks, but from everything I’ve read in the recaps, it was a great night for all parties involved. I’m especially happy to see Molly Holly, Eric Bischoff, and Pez Whatley get their dues. Let’s do the Q&A for today.
Thoughts on Peacock censoring “offensive” material off the WWE Network such as Roddy Piper’s “half-black” promo and the DX parody of The Nation?
I wish I could say I’m surprised, but I’m not. In today’s “Woke Culture”, it’s not enough to maybe throw up a disclaimer or leave the past alone, but it has to be erased entirely if it might offend someone or hurt someone’s feelings. Peacock is paying large sums of money to stream the former WWE Network on their site and I guess that allows them to do whatever they want with the content. Just wait until they get into the ’80s and “Nazis” or Jerry Lawler in Memphis/USWA. I don’t like this at all, but it is what it is, just more of the entitled progressive movement trying to rewrite history and abolish anything that they find offensive. Lord help us all.
With talks of Lucha Underground returning, is there any room for the show in the wrestling universe as of now? Your thoughts.
There are so many shows available now, it’ll be hard for Lucha Underground to find a steady audience and compete, but if the show is good, the booking makes sense, and the appeal is there, it will find an audience and a place among the others. It’ll be a tough road for the company and they will have to find a way to stand out and be must-see, but if they can do that, they’ll be okay and endure.
I love AEW and I’m glad there is an alternative. But damn it, they have too many stables. I feel like they need a “Gang Wars” kind of PPV if the number keeps rising. Is this a legitimate gripe to have as a fan or should I just shut up and enjoy the product? What are your thoughts on the AEW stables?
It’s a legitimate gripe to be sure. Exactly how many gangs and factions are in AEW right now? I understand “gang warfare” and “cliques”, but there comes a point when enough is enough and it’s confusing at best. We have the Inner Circle and Pinnacle. That makes sense. Then you get the Dark Order, Taz’s Group, The Kinda-Sorta Bullet Club, The Best Friends, The Nightmare Family, and I’m forgetting about a dozen others. Sometimes, less is more and when it comes to factions and groups, that’s how it should be. AEW needs to take note and consider heading in that direction. Less is more. Think about it.
Thoughts on Rena Mero (Sable)?
To be honest, I’ve never really thought very highly of Sable. Boring in the ring, stale monotone promos, and nothing more than a pair of tits that Vince McMahon got obsessed with. But that’s not why I don’t care for Sable. I went to a live signing featuring Sable back in her WWE days and I did get a magazine signed and won a t-shirt from the local radio station promoting the event so that was good. But meeting her was a major letdown. She was indifferent, obviously didn’t care to be there, and showed all the personality of a turnip. Some wrestlers appreciate their fans and at least attempt to interact to some degree. It was obvious she just wanted to get it over and leave. I lost all respect for her then and even now, twenty-plus years later, I still could care less. And there you go.
Brian “Spanky Kendrick has retired it seems. Thoughts?
I saw this mentioned somewhere and I hope it’s not true. Kendrick is damn good talent in the ring and an exceptional performer. It was only one mention and I’ve yet to see anything else so I’m taking any news of his retirement with a grain of salt, but if it’s true, I wish him well, and much thanks for some fantastic matches and entertaining moments over the years. And if it’s not true, then kick ass, my man! We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds.
Conrad Thompson already has several podcasts with legends like Arn, Bischoff, Angle, Jim Ross, & Schiavone. Who else would you like to see Conrad work with?
Conrad already has an extremely full schedule and I doubt he has the time for any more podcasts or shows, but if by some chance he was to add another to his schedule, I wouldn’t mind seeing him paired up with Lisa Moretti, aka Ivory. I’ve always thought she would be great at doing a podcast and paired with Conrad with be very entertaining. Kevin Sullivan, aka The Taskmaster, would be another name that I believe Conrad could work with and have a great show.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts, or questions about the world’s greatest sport or anything at all for that matter, feel free and drop me a line. Until the next time, stay safe and be good. I’ll see you at the matches.
