Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Gina Carano, Tank Abbott, David Arquette & More
May 23, 2021
I know it’s been a while. Did you miss me? I’m back! Let’s do this.
Would WWE have any interest in hiring former MMA fighter and former Mandalorian star Gina Carano for a match? Her right-wing views got her In trouble with Disney but is it possible the McMahons would be interested in her specifically for that reason? Like HHH could say at a press conference “The WWE uh, doesn’t uh, cave in uh, to political correctness..uh” or would hiring her hurt them as a publicly-traded company?
In today’s crazed, politically correct environment, WWE should stay as far away from Carano as possible. Back during the attitude era, bringing someone such as Carano in would be an option and could happen, but this is the world of “woke” and since NBC-Universal has such a high stake in the WWE these days, there is no way they’d allow it to happen and there would be a hell of a backlash if it did. Better to let Carano, who I agree with by the way, deal with Disney and if the rumors are true, resume her role on the Star Wars show with the mini-Yoda kid.
Was Tank Abbott “world champion” material?
He was a character and entertaining to be sure, but Tank Abbott has no reason to be anywhere near a title belt or championship gold at any point during his wrestling career.
Thoughts on the AEW Blood & Guts match?
It was fun to watch, a little too bloody for my tastes for the wrong reasons, but a cool match for the most part and I enjoyed it.
Who would you book for Triple H’s retirement match and how would it go?
For HHH’s final opponent, how about Shawn Michaels or The Undertaker? Nah, probably not. I’d want an opponent that is the future of the business and can go strong in that ring, but also is loyal to WWE and won’t jump ship at the first offer. Let’s go with Drew McIntyre since I can’t think of anyone else right off the top of my head at the moment. Have HHH screw around with Drew in his management role and finally Drew snaps. And we get the build to a match at Wrestlemania and if HHH wins, Drew will never get another shot at WWE or Universal title. If Drew wins, HHH retires. And so on and so on. And after a twenty-five minute classic, Drew score the pin, give HHH a handshake in respect, and leaves HHH in the ring to get his final kudos from the live audience. And there you go.
Has David Arquette redeemed himself?
In my opinion, Arquette has nothing to redeem. He worked with WCW to film and promote a movie and due to the powers-that-be at the time, he ended up winning the WCW title (pinning a non-wrestler to do so). He lived the dream that every wrestling fan would love to experience and donated his salary from that time to help the family of Brian Pillman, so he didn’t profit off of it. And then he dropped the belt and went away. And then a few years ago, he came back, worked many independent matches including a brutal death match against Nick Gage, in some misguided effort to get over with the disgruntled wrestling fans and film a damn good documentary. In all of this, he’s always been totally respectful to the wrestling business and the men and women of that squared circle. He didn’t need to do any of this, but his love for our business forced his hand. So has he been “redeemed”? I would say absolutely, a big yes.
Who is the current favorite to win the 2021 Money In The Bank contract?
WWE Money in the Bank has been pushed back a few months to allow for Hell In A Cell to be the next WWE PPV presentation. It’s a tough call with many good mid-card talents in WWE and more, I suspect, will be popping up as WWE resumes live events and touring. I’m sure that it will be a heel since in general, baby-face contract holders tend to be kind of boring and predictable. Seth is a strong possibility, but we’ve been there and done that already. Let’s just get random. How about Keith Lee? I know he hasn’t wrestled on TV for many months and just seemed to vanish into limbo for no reason, but what better way to make a strong return? I think Lee will be my pick, for now, subject to change of course.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions you may have are welcome. I know I’ve been slacking big time as of late due to medical problems and the realities of life, but I’m going to get back on track. Believe that! Until the next time, take care of yourself and stay safe. I’ll see you at the matches.
