Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Zelina Vega, Jim Ross, Cornette in AEW & More
July 14, 2021
So are you ready for some wrestling? It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Let’s do this.
Thoughts on Zelina Vega’s return to the WWE?
Apparently, she and WWE worked out their differences and I would assume most likely, she got a slight bump in pay to make up for the income lost via the cutting back on her extra-curricular activities. Let’s be honest here. AEW is good and all that, but she’s going to make more money and have more opportunities for mainstream success working with WWE than anything AEW could provide. Business-wise, this is a good move for Vega and I think she did the right thing by mending fences and returning to WWE.
Jim Ross recently called AEW Dynamite “WWE Dynamite” on a live broadcast. Should AEW fire him?
Jim Ross made a slip of the tongue. So freaking what? He’s one of the best and most respected announcers in the business and having him as part of the AEW roster is a very good thing for the company. He may be slipping at the announce table sometimes, but he’s forgotten more about talent relations and management for a major promotion than most people can ever hope to know. Leave JR alone and let him do his job and if he has a gaffe, so be it. It’s not that important.
Would you like to see Austin Aries in AEW?
Not really, no. Aries is a good wrestler and talented performer, but he’s not the save-all or big name that some give him credit as being. He’d be just another face in the roster with a Diva attitude, something that the AEW locker room does not need.
Any Dark Side of the Ring episodes you’re clamoring for?
Black Saturday, the Vince Russo/Hulk Hogan stuff from Bash at the Beach, and the Wendi Richter screw job are the topics that immediately popped into my head with this question.
Would you like to see Tony Khan hire Jim Cornette?
I would love to see it happen because Cornette would help install some logic and common sense to the wrestling part of AEW, something that they drastically need. Same screwy finish three matches in a row on television? Corny would put a stop to that and definitely help with the continuity and creative side of AEW. I don’t think it ever will happen, but then again, this is professional wrestling and if Khan was to open up that checkbook enough, anything could happen, right?
Greg Valentine as part of the Four Horsemen. Good idea?
From what Valentine has said, there were talks in the late ’80s about him coming back to the NWA and replacing Barry Windham as part of the Four Horsemen, with Barry doing a face-turn to make place for The Hammer, but he decided to stay with the WWF and went on to team with Brutus Beefcake instead. Greg as a Horsemen would have been great at the time. He had the credibility and history with Flair that works well within the concept of Flair recruiting him for the team. It would have been an interesting dynamic with Greg, Tully, Arn, and Ric, but I can see it happening and working well. Too bad it didn’t happen and we ended up with Sid Vicious as a Horseman instead. Oh well.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions you’d like to see answered, feel free to drop me a line. Until the next time, take care of yourself and stay good. I’ll see you at the matches,
