Thoughts & Predictions
August 28, 2021
DougMaynard.com
Coming up tonight is the National Wrestling Alliance’s first-ever All-Women’s pay-per-view, lie from The Chase in St. Louis, MO. I have to admit that I am not familiar with all of the ladies involved, but I’m going to do a prediction column anyhow. I’m excited for this show and hope that such legendary names from the past such as Missy Hyatt, Madusa, Baby Doll, Lisa Marie Varon, aka Tara/Victoria, Lisa Moretti, aka Ivory, and Awesome Kong are all involved in some manner. We’ll have to wait and see, but with Mickie James calling the shots as the booker and Executive Producer for this event, anything is possible. So are you ready for some predictions? Let’s do this.
Chik Tormenta vs. Diamante vs. Kylie Rae
Of the three, I only know of Kylie Rae who is currently under contract to AEW, but does that make her the favorite here? I don’t think so. Kylie is good, but for some reason, the name Diamante appeals to me. Enough to pick her to win the match? I would say yes.
Winner: Diamante
NWA Women’s Invitational Cup (Tootie Lynn, Jamie Senegal, Bianca Carelli, Debbie Malenko, Lady Frost, Jennacide, Masha Slamovich, Thunder Kitty, Kiera Hogan, and Chelsea Green)
These ten women were picked by Mickie James and her advisors to participate in this event and I’ve no doubt that they are all good at what they do. Only a few names are familiar to me and unlike the last match, this time I’m going for a former WWE/NXT performer who now currently works for Impact Wrestling and is engaged to the current King of the Death Matches, Matt Cardona. Look for Chelsea Green to pick up the win here. Woo woo woo – you know it!
Winner: Chelsea Green
IMPACT Knockouts Championship: Deonna Purrazzo (c) vs. Melina
I’m smelling a title change here. Melina isn’t as young as she once was, but in her day, she was the absolute shit (and I mean that in a good way). Purrazzo has been a dominant champion since leaving NXT and coming to Impact Wrestling, but even the best sometimes have an off day. I think this might end up being hers.
Winner and NEW Impact Knockouts Champion: Melina
NWA World Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament Semifinal Matches. The winners of the two following matches will meet in a match for the NWA Women’s World Tag Team Championship later in the show.
The Hex (Allysin Kay and Marti Belle) vs. Hell on Heels (Renee Michelle and Sahara 7)
I don’t know either of these teams so I’ll just flip a coin and use that to pick the winner. Heads for The Hex and tails for Hell On Heels. Heads it is so look for The Hex to win and go to the finals.
Winners: The Hex (Allysin Kay & Marti Belle)
Red Velvet and KiLynn King vs. The Freebabes (Jazzy Yang, Hollyhood Haley J and Miranda Gordy)
Same method as before to determine who wins this one and goes on to face The Hex for the NWA Women’s Tag Team Championship in the tournament final. We flip with heads for Velvet & King and tails for the Freebabes. It’s tails so the Freebabes win here and go to the finals.
Winners: The Freebabes
NWA Women’s Tag Team Championship Match – Tournament Finals
The Hex (Allysin Kay & Marti Belle) versus The Freebabes (Jazzy Yang, Hollyhood Haley J and Miranda Gordy)
I went to YouTube and looked up both teams. The Hex look cool, but I wasn’t really impressed all that much. The Freebabes would make Michael Hayes proud. Is Miranda Gordy any relation to Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy? I don’t know, but I like this team. And tonight, they’re going to be wearing tag team gold.
Winners and NEW NWA Women’s Tag Team Champions: The Freebabes
NWA World Women’s Championship: Kamille (c) vs. “Legit” Leyla Hirsch
Look for another title change here. Originally, Kamille was supposed to defend against former champion Serena Deeb, but alas, injury forced Deeb to be removed from the match and Hirsch fought hard to earn the right to be her replacement. Kamille is damn good, but I think she’s ripe for the picking, and for Hirsch, it’s the right place and right time. I think we’ll be seeing a new lady at the top of the ladder when the dust settles and her name is “Legit” Leyla Hirsch.
Winner and NEW NWA World Women’s Champion: “Legit” Leyla Hirsch
And there you go. Am I right or wrong? Are you planning on watching this historic event and who do you think will be the ladies taking that trip to the fabled pay window? Let me know what you think. Thoughts, comments, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. And with that, I’m out of here. Take care of yourself and stay safe. I’ll see you at the matches.
