And here we go. It’s Wrestling Fact or Fiction, where I take a look at different statements about the world’s greatest entertainment and decide if it’s right or wrong and explain why I feel the way I do. The statements come from Jake Chambers and 411mania.com. The opinions expressed here, that’s all me. So are you ready? Let’s do this.
Statement #1: Hangman Page should win the AEW Championship at Full Gear.
FACT: Page should win. That’s a no-brainer to be sure. But as I explained in my AEW Full Gear prediction column, I don’t think he will. I fully expect to see Omega use every dirty trick in the book to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat to retain his belt. And then, when we get to AEW Dynamite, a disgusted Tony Khan can order a rematch where everyone is barred from ringside and Omega is on his own. And then we get the title switch on live TV as the main event of Dynamite. I might be wrong, but in my heart, that’s what I feel will happen.
Statement #2: If you could, you would bring back ONE of the WWE sports entertainers released by the company last week.
FACT: WWE let a lot of very talented people go last week and there are several that I’d like to see back in action with the company. But if I’m limited to one return, who would it be? My first thought was Keith Lee and he is a big loss to the WWE brand, but the more I think about it, WWE and Vince didn’t know what to do with him and even if they brought him back, they’d probably still screw up in their booking and push of the guy. I mean, Bearcat? Really? So my pick? Nia Jax. I know she’s not very popular and needs to tighten up her ring work, but she had a unique character, a unique look, and I actually enjoyed most of her appearances and matches on TV. She has issues to be sure, but I think the pros well outweigh the cons with Nia and I would love to see her return.
Statement #3: You would love to see Will Ospreay walk through that “forbidden door” and come to AEW.
FACT: Sure, why not. I’m not really a big fan of Ospreay, but the guy has a good reputation, is a top international name, and could have some amazing matches with the likes of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Kenny Omega, and quite a few other names on the AEW roster. If it means good wrestling matches, I’m all for it. Bring him on.
Statement #4: The Britt Baker vs. Tay Conti Women’s World Title match will steal the show at Full Gear.
FICTION: I’m not saying it won’t be a good match and that they won’t try their best to steal the show, but with Danielson versus Miro, Punk versus Kingston, and Omega versus Page all on the card as well, it’s going to be one classic after another and tough competition between all of the AEW wrestlers. The entire card is stacked full of top-level matches so it’s anyone’s game. And the biggest winners of all will be us fans. We’re in for a good night of wrestling.
Statement #5: After Full Gear, both CM Punk and Bryan Danielson will remain undefeated in AEW singles matches.
FACT: We’re going to see some great matches and it will look like, many times, that the winning streaks for both Danielson and Punk are coming to an end, but it’s not time yet. Both Danielson and Punk will find ways to snatch victories from the jaws of defeat and take that elusive trip to the pay window. Watch and see.
And there you go. Another Factor Fiction in the books. My thanks again to Jake Chambers and 411mania.com for the concept and statements. Until the next time, take care of yourself and stay safe. Don’t forget AEW Full Gear tomorrow night on Pay-Per-View. Have a great one and I’ll see you at the matches.
