Ultimate Wrestling Q&A: Matt Cardona, Podcasts, FTR & More…

Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Matt Cardona, Podcasts, FTR & More
December 13, 2021

It’s Monday morning and you know what that means. Yeppers, another doctor’s appointment in a little while. I hate those things. But before we go there, we’re here with the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Are you ready? Let’s do this.

It seems that everyone who’s ever wrestled has a podcast these days, but is there anyone that you’d like to see start a podcast that hasn’t done so (yet)?

I’ve long said that I’d love to see Ivory (Lisa Moretti) start a podcast. That woman loves to talk and she’s intelligent, well-spoken, sexy, and has a great personality. Another who comes to mind would be Missy Hyatt. Missy has been around so long and seen so much, I’m sure she has a million stories to tell. And how about Dutch Mantell? Around forever, worked everywhere both as a wrestler and member of the creative teams, and a great storyteller. Any of these three would be excellent to listen to.

Thoughts on the new AEW star “Hook”?

Well, he’s only had one match so far against Fuego Del Sol and he looked great in that match. He’s Taz’s son so that explains a lot as to his background and training (and why Taz is sticking around in AEW so long). A great first impression to be sure, but I have to see more to have any kind of real opinion about him.

What tag teams would you like to see FTR wrestle against in AEW?

If the ROH PPV was any indication, I think we’ll be seeing a lot of FTR against The Briscoes in the weeks and months to come and that will be excellent. A match or two with the Good Brothers from Impact Wrestling could be cool to see again and hell, for classic wrestling fans like me, how about FTR w/Tully Blanchard versus The Rock & Roll Express w/ Jim Cornette. I sent an e-mail to Cornette suggesting such a match. No reply yet, but it would be cool as the last hurrah of sorts for Corny and the R&R team.

Thoughts on Matt Cardona and his showing up at the NWA Hard Times 2 event to attack NWA Champion Trevor Murdoch?

Matt Cardona has been everywhere since leaving the WWE, with appearances in GPW, Impact Wrestling, AEW, and now the NWA. And I love it. Seeing Matt hold that ten pounds of gold in his hands just looked good and felt right. Cardona has always been under-rated and under-appreciated. Now he’s really coming into his own and a run with the NWA title would be excellent to me. Woo woo woo, you know it!

Hulk Hogan versus Rick Steamboat. Who wins?

As much as I like Steamer, and he is a far better in-ring performer than Hogan, Hulk would come out on top in this match. Steamboat is the better wrestler, but Hulk is the attraction and the big name, and no promoter in their right mind would have Steamboat going over. I’d rather see Steamboat win and see how it goes, but Hulk would end up with the victory.

Best trash talker – Jim Cornette or Bobby Heenan?

Both are so good and so quick-witted in their own ways, it’s hard to make a comparison. Gorny was better with the long promos where he would hit all the bullet points, get his team over, and insult you in twenty different ways, all in two minutes. Bobby was the master of the one-liners and short quips and insults. I can’t say who was better because it’s like comparing Alice Cooper to Waylon Jennings. Both are singers and the very best of their respective genres but in different styles and ways. So who is the best between Corny and The Brain? Both.

What is your opinion on WWE’s NIL program for recruiting future wrestling talents?

I think it’s a great way to recruit young men and women in college who shows great athleticism and may potentially be good wrestlers. It’s just another way, aside from the traditional methods, for WWE to find new stars and that is definitely a good thing, especially if HHH is the man in charge of this as I’ve heard he will be.

Do you think CM Punk shows up at Final Battle?

Punk sent in a video so he was there in spirit, as did Bryan Danielson. And we did get live appearances from Jay Lethal, FTR, and the man formerly known as Braun Strowman so there were plenty of surprises and cameos to make the fans happy.

Matt Cardona versus Buff Bagwell (in his prime). Who wins?

I saw a recent video of these two meeting for the first time this past weekend and it was pretty cool. As for who would win a wrestling match, it would be a good match and hard to predict. They’re so alike in many ways. Today’s Cardona would probably have the advantage in a lot of ways, but Buff is the stuff so I’ll give him a win. Buff Bagwell with a surprise roll-up to get the victory.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions you may have are welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, stay safe and be good. I’ll see you at the matches.
