I know I’ve been kind of slack the past few days and my apologies for that, but it’s time to play catch-up with an extra-long edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. It’s more bang for the buck. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
WWE has expressed interest in MJF for when his AEW contract ends in 2024. Would MJF do well in WWE?
I think MJF would do well regardless of which company he’s working for, but do I think that WWE would be the best place for him? Not really? In AEW, he’s been given a lot of freedom to follow his instincts and be a great heel. WWE likes to micromanage their talents far too much and while he would do okay, I don’t think he’d be allowed to reach his full potential there. MJF needs to do what’s best for MJF and who knows what the landscape will be like in AEW or the WWE in 2024, but I personally think he would have more success in AEW than WWE.
Thoughts on Kevin Owens re-signing with the WWE?
Kevin is happy there and obviously is making great money there so why not stick around and do the WWE thing for a few more years. Makes sense to me.
What did you think of the hour-long draw between Adam Page and Bryan Danielson?
I think it was a great match highlighting the skills of two of the best talents wrestling today. And with a draw, that just means we’ll see more with rematches, which with these two men, is definitely a good thing.
What are your thoughts on Tony Khan’s recent Twitter rant against FOX News?
I think Tony Khan should quit worrying about Fox and stick to wrestling and looking after his company. Tony is just making himself look bad here and no one cares about the ratings of Fox News versus AEW. It’s a meaningless fight that serves no purpose and Tony needs to just let it go.
Where do you believe that the Roman Reigns “firing” of Paul Heyman will go?
It’s just the icing on the cake of what has been a tremendous storyline thus far. Is Paul with Roman or Brock? No one knows for sure and I suspect we’ll see a swerve at Day One with Paul revealing his true loyalties. I’m not even going to try to predict the outcome, but I suspect that it will make for several good matches and good TV for many more months to come.
Why do you think there remains more nostalgia for ECW than WCW?
Because at the end, WCW was hard to watch and pretty much sucked. ECW stayed strong and was still strong when Heyman was forced to close things down and sell to the WWE.
So with CM Punk mentioning The Miz, and Edge alluding to the reference on Raw, in your opinion which is the better heel: MJF or The Miz?
Right now, I’d go with MJF. He’s the new guy and fresh and does a damn good job of being the dick you want to punch in the face. Miz is good at what he does and is still annoying, but his act is played out and stale. He needs to pull a Jericho and tweak his character and make some changes to freshen things up. Both are damn good, but right now, MJG is better and he knows it.
Everyone is jumping all over Hannibal’s case about cutting a referee, but no one ever complained about New Jack and he did stuff like that all the time. Hannibal needs to be left alone. Thoughts?
Hannibal crossed the line and should be criminally charged, arrested, and forced to pay the hospital bills for that referee. He’s a piece of crap. And New Jack, he wasn’t much better and when he took advantage of other wrestlers, that just made him a piece of crap as well. Honestly, I don’t have much use for either of these two, and RIP Jack, but he was a piece of trash and so is Hannibal… period!
Who would have had the best shot at an NWA title run in the ’80s if they hadn’t moved to the WWF: Barry Windham, Paul Orndorff, Sgt Slaughter, Greg Valentine, or Roddy Piper?
Piper was a great heel but as the World Champion? I’m not sure how that would have gone over. Valentine was good, but kind of one-dimensional in that ring. Slaughter was great as a heel for Crockett, but again, his appeal was limited and he probably wouldn’t have worked very well as the NWA Champion. I think either Orndorff or Barry would have had the best chances for an NWA title run, and of the two, I’m definitely leaning more towards Windham than Orndorff.
No Holds Barred Match: Ox Baker versus The Missing Link. Who wins?
On was a great character and had a great look, but he was not really a good wrestler. The Missing Link, aka Dewey Robertson, was a damn good wrestler with a legit background and even though he wasn’t often allowed to show it while doing the Missing Link character, he could have a good match with anyone and could probably beat most anyone in a shoot-style situation. I have to go with Link on this one.
And there you go. My thoughts for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions you may have about pro wrestling or anything at all feel free and drop me a line. Until the next time, stay safe and be good. I will see you at the matches.
