Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact Or Fiction
Roman Reigns, Hangman Page & More
December 24, 2021
Merry Christmas Eve and welcome to Wrestling Fact or Fiction. You know the drill. I take a statement about professional wrestling, tell if I agree or not, and then explain why. The statements and the whole concept, the credit goes to Jake Chambers and 411mania.com/wrestling. The answers and opinions that follow though, that’s all me. Are you ready? Let’s do this.
Statement #1: Roman Reigns is your 2021 Wrestler of the Year.
FICTION: Roman has been the big guy for WWE so far this year and deserves a lot of credit for that, but my choice for Wrestler of the Year is a guy who took a major negative in his life, being fired from the WWE, and turned it around to become one of the hottest guys in the business right now. Matt Cardona, the artist formerly known as Zack Ryder, has, since leaving WWE, established a podcast network with friend Brian Meyers, worked for GCW, and had a reign as their World Champion, thus giving him the nickname of the “King of Hardcore”. He’s also made some appearances for AEW and now is a big part of Impact Wrestling, where he’s going after Moose and the Impact Wrestling World Championship at the next PPV. All of that plus he’s engaged to Chelsea Green. I think it’s safe to say he’s had an amazing year. Woo woo woo – you know it!
Statement #2: Watching Bryan Danielson wrestle for one hour is more important to you than the outcome of the match.
FACT: Wins and losses don’t matter when you have a match such as the one that Bryan had with Adam Page. An hour of solid wrestling that made both men look great and strong. When you have a match like that, it doesn’t matter who gets their arm raised in the end. The fans are the real winners, as it should be.
Statement #3: Hangman Page should stay AEW World Champion for most of 2022.
FACT: Page is damn good and with the long build that it took to get him to the AEW Championship, he should enjoy a long and fruitful reign. Hot shotting the top title of a promotion doesn’t really help anyone, but a long reign by a strong and fighting champion adds to the title and the company it represents. Page is the right guy to keep the belt and for AEW to build around. Here’s to a long and exciting reign at the top for the Cowboy.
Statement #4: Mick Foley’s Christmas obsession over the years has made you lose respect for the hardcore legend.
FICTION: Not at all. We all have hobbies and obsessions and a love for Christmas is a good thing. I can’t disrespect a person for that. There are definitely worse things to be into and like.
Statement #5: You are interested when pro-wrestlers date, marry, cheat or divorce in real life.
FACT: I’d love to say Fiction about this one, but to be honest, I’m a nosy ass sometimes and I like to hear the gossip and he said/she said about people I know or hell, even people I don’t know personally, but know of. Yes, I know that it’s none of my business, but I’m still curious. Inquiring minds want to know.
Bonus Statement #1: You miss the Thunderdome / empty arena era of wrestling from 2020/21.
FICTION: The shows were good and a necessary evil if you will, but nothing beats a live audience and real people cheering, booing, and reacting.
Bonus Statement #2: In your lifetime you have received wrestling-related Christmas gifts.
FACT: I’ve gotten t-shirts, action figures, DVD’s, and games. I’m a wrestling guy and my friends and family all know that in regards to presents. if it’s money, booze, food, or wrestling-related, you can’t go wrong.
And there you go. My thanks to Jake Chambers and 411.mania. Any comments, thoughts, or questions you may have, they’re welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take care and be good. Have a very Merry Christmas. I’ll see you at the matches.
