Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Billy Gunn, Danhausen, Undertaker & More
December 27, 2021
Welcome to the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Are you ready to take a break from the family and ho ho ho’s to talk about the world’s greatest entertainment? Hell yeah! Let’s do this.
If you were starting a federation and had a draft of free agents that aren’t signed yet, who would you take?
There are so many great talents out there. Windham & Taylor Rotundo (Bray Wyatt, Bo Dallas) would be two must-haves. Joe Henning (Curtis Axel) would be as well. Several talents from the local Indy’s would be picked up as well such as The Atlantic Coast Destruction Crew, Hated World Wide, Sammy Love, The Monster Brad Branson, The Fallen Artist, and maybe even ACW Original Cham Pain. Michael Youngblood would be a must-have top guy. And don’t worry if you don’t know some of these folks. You would very quickly and you would be very, very impressed.
Do you think AEW could make mixed tag matches work? They have so many couples, that I kind of want to see it done!
I remember the WWE Mixed Match Challenge and it was pretty damn good. I’d love to see AEW take the concept and run with it and make it even better. They definitely have the talent available and it would be good to see.
My all-time dream match is between peak ‘American Dragon’ Bryan Danielson and peak Bret ‘the Hitman’ Hart. Which wrestler would be the babyface or heal and who do you think would come out on top?
As far as who’s the face and who’s the heel, it would depend on if the match was happening in the States or Canada. As for who would win or lose, I think Bret has the size and experience advantage (barely) and is a far better-known commodity than Danielson. I would prefer to see Danielson win, but the win would probably end up going to Bret.
If you could create a brand new stable on both WWE and AEW who would be your perfect ‘Available’ wrestlers to fill each one?
For WWE, my group would have Timothy Thatcher and Pete Dunn from NXT, along with Asuka, Cesaro from the main roster. I’d just recycle an old name from World Class with Devastation, Inc. as the team name. As for an AEW stable, how about Griff, Fuego, Sammy, Marko, Tay Conti, and Alan Angels. And we’d call them the VLOG Crew.
Do you think the latest version of NXT is going to do well? Feels like a lot of the life and soul of the brand has gone.
I think that Vince is rebranding it in a manner that he feels more comfortable with and enjoys more. Do I like it? Not really, but I’m not the boss or the man paying the bills so what I think doesn’t matter very much. It’s still some very talented performers and some great matches, just packaged differently than we had gotten used to. I’ll keep my eyes open and give it a chance before I trash the new NXT too badly. Let’s just be patient and see where things go.
Does Billy Gunn deserve to be in Best Wrestler Never To Be World Champion conversations?
I like Billy Gunn, but his strongest moments have always been more of a tag team wrestler than a singles star. His few singles runs were okay but rather forgettable. And I think that when we talk about wrestlers that deserved to be the World Champion but didn’t have the opportunity, I think it’s safe to leave his name off the list.
Can you explain Danhausen to casual wrestling fans such as myself? He seems to be everywhere on social media but no clue whether he’s a wrestler, some kind of concept art, or what?
I can’t explain him. I see him everywhere and he’s entertaining, but what his exact deal and gimmick is supposed to be, I don’t get it. He’s a nut!
What do you think of MJF using his Judaism to get heat? Do you think it invites an unwanted element?
He’s using whatever he has at his disposal and making it work for him. Will it invite an unwanted element? It’s possible, but I’m sure that MJF took that into consideration already and is ready for any kind of feedback from the fans, be it good or bad, for whatever reason. After all, he’s better than you and you know it.
What do you think of the idea of the judges in the AEW Title match being the first three AEW world champs, or do you think that would take away from the match itself?
I think the idea of judges is cool, but having the first three champions would, as you suggest, be a distraction and take away from the match. Better to use legends and give the old-school fans a little taste of nostalgia, while also having credible judges there to serve a purpose if needed and not distract from the match itself.
Should the Undertaker be an on-screen manager on RAW or Smackdown?
Having the Undertaker showing up to give an endorsement of someone, would be cool. But with Taker, less is more, and having him as the regular manager or advisor of a wrestler would go against his character and gimmick. It wouldn’t work and I can’t see Taker wanting to do that kind of job anyhow.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions you may have are welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, stay good and be safe. I’ll see you at the matches.
