You ask and I answer. A simple enough theme, don’t you think? These come from the world of Twitter and a lovely lady named Kelly (@kelly_ques). The answers, that’s all me. We’re goijng extra-big with a double-sized edition today. Yes, I’m bored. Let’s do this.

Has there ever been a time when you sincerely experienced a threat to your life?

Two incidents come to mind. Once was when I was held up, at gunpoint, while working third-shift at a convenience store. I was more pissed off than scared at the time, but thinking back, that situation could have gone sideways very easily. And the other was just a few months ago when I was getting medical treatments for an infection in my foot. I got the whole big speech from the doctors about how if the infection, which was not responding to any treatments, got into my bloodstream, I could and most likely would be dead shortly afterward. That’s when I made the decision to have my foot amputated. It must have worked because I’m still alive, breathing, and on the way back to soon again enjoy the life I once had before.

How do you deal with people you really don’t like?

As quickly as possible. I try to not deal with them at all, but if I must, I’m polite, professional, and get it over with as soon as I can.

Would you rather be happy or successful?

I’d like to be both, but if a choice has to be made, I’ll go with the happy thing. I haven’t been truly happy for a long time and it would be nice to experience that feeling once again.

What is something that most people don’t appreciate even though they should?

They don’t appreciate just how truly good we really do have things now in comparison to past generations. We have so many advantages and good things in our lives, and yet the entitlement generation wants more and feels that the world owes them, when in fact, nobody owes anyone anything. You work for and earn what you get. That’s how it should be and people don’t like that. They just don’t get it or appreciate anything, and it’s sad.

What is one subject you wish you knew more about?

Computer engineering and technology. If I had a better knowledge of how these damn things work, I’d be making videos and podcasting every day. My site, DougMaynard.com, would be getting hundreds of thousands of hits every week instead of the usual couple of hundred. I would be a podcast/YouTube legend and it would be, as Matt Hardy would say, “Wonderful!”.

Lions, Tigers, Bears, what animal is next?

Possums. Definitely possums.

If you could be the best in the world at something, what would it be?

Writing, blogging, making videos, and podcasting. I’d like to be a YouTube sensation. Unfortunately, I have a face made for the radio, and a voice made for writing, so I just write all the time instead. Sad!

If you were given the chance to steal something, what would it be?

The heart of a very special young man that I know and am very fond of. We’re friends and all that, but his heart belongs to someone else, thus anything more than a casual friendship and the occasional Facebook Instant Messager chats, is not to be expected.

How many times has your heart been broken?

A few times, sometimes worse than others. Enough times to turn it black and to encase it in a wall of sarcasm, mistrust, wariness, doubt, and disbelief.

What is the first thing you do after getting home from a trip?

Spend some time with my cat, telling him how great he is, and throwing clothes in the washer to get a load of laundry started.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions you may have are welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take care of yourself, be safe, and don’t take any wooden nickles. I’ll see you at the liquor store.

Ubuntu!
